Besides a nutritional consultation, they could have at least considered testing the girl for conditions such as Prader-Willi Syndrome, since she said she had always been hungry even as a young child (IIRC). One episode of "House" had a patient who weighed 600 pounds. The doctors thought his medical problems were caused by his weight, but [spoiler alert] they were not.

If we each make a batch of Andrew's "JIT Stew" they might all be different.

Bad writing. This show, like many other medical dramas, is focused on surgeons, so the writing leans toward surgery as the only effective and interesting treatment. One thing I liked about "House" is that Dr. House was not a surgeon.

Someone can be mayor of just part of London? How does that work? I got tired of hearing Fred say he would be "Lady Mayoress" if Violet were elected mayor. If the word "mayoress" must exist, it sounds like a female mayor, not a mayor's wife. Someone could have tried to come up with a title for a mayor's husband, even back in the 60s.

Hmm. You aren't by any chance referencing Grey's Anatomy now are you? No, ER. I watched a few episodes of GA but the soap to medicine ratio was too high for me. Back on topic, I didn't expect to like CTM as much as I do.

A rare event, I remembered and liked all 3 contestants. (Not everyone liked Lilly in the college tournament, but I did.) Congrats, Sam!

At least CTM is better than some medical dramas, in which a staff member has a personal crisis, and a patient is promptly admitted whose condition is relevant to that crisis.

4/5 + 1* (Monday). Thursday I was waffling between two books, the same wrong answers the contestants gave. Friday I was sure there was one after Uzbekistan that I couldn't remember, but I'll accept the point.

I had to look it up, and found this: "The symbol "S" is used to represent entropy because German physicist Rudolf Clausius chose it in the late 1800s, possibly in honor of French physicist Nicolas Sadi-Carnot. Sadi-Carnot published a paper in 1824 about heat engines, and Clausius studied his work over many years. Another possibility is that the symbol "E" was already taken."

Victoria's ability to play the organ is supposed to be a unique talent that would help her get an immigration visa? I don't buy that.

What do you think Esbeth carries in all those tote bags? Information? Weapons? Bright scarves in case she decides her outfit is too drab?

Given a time limit, I would have cut the driving lessons and the kid's poem in order to leave in some of the more important material. Cyril is in an awkward situation with the church lady (Mrs. Wallace?) who considers saving souls (i.e. getting people to come to church) as their top priority, while he is trying to help their physical health too. I have always liked Cyril and hope he succeeds.

Will there be a prize for the longest "0" streak? Doughnuts?

Where I used to live, the station finally started airing "preempted" Jeopardy shows at the usual time, but on their other channel that usually airs sitcom reruns. I forget why they made this improvement: the polite letters, the less polite letters, or the torches.

Not about this episode, but do ambulance crews, police, etc. have protocols if they are dealing with a person with a dog? Years ago a friend was walking her dog, fell, and took a while to get up. Someone who saw this must have called, because an ambulance showed up. They told her to tie the dog's leash to the fence and come back for it later, which she was not willing to do. She ended up walking the few blocks home (with a broken arm) and getting a ride to the hospital. I hope there are better protocols in place now.

The dog started by opening the refrigerator, IIRC, which worried me for a moment because dogs that open fridges are not always doing it to be helpful. A friend's dog opened the fridge at someone else's house and ate everything he could reach including a pound of butter. They seemed to have a bit more screen time for animals than they did in an earlier episode, which is good. I could quibble about the species and weight of the tortoise but I won't.

I still wish they had started the series with Shaun as a medical student. Freddie Highmore looks young enough. Shaun's behavior could still go through the same changes that it has in this series, but it might be more believable that his professors etc. would be tolerant and supportive, given his occasional flashes of brilliance. When Shaun started at this hospital, he was very fortunate to work with people who tolerated his behavior and even went to bat for him. If he had started at the hospital the way he is now, he probably would have had a less difficult experience. ETA: I have said this before, but I'm repeating it because Shaun does not realize how lucky he was. I'm glad his coworkers appreciated him, but not everyone would be allowed to stay.

Tetracycline was a TS, but maybe someone would have got it if they had shown the structural formula with the four rings.

They have several hours between recording and broadcast, right? Why can't someone sync the closed captions with the audio? Some viewers like to hear Stephen's voice but can't catch all the words, so we need the captions too. The captions tend to be a sentence behind, which can be confusing.

I can't either, because of my vision problems. Sometimes people have been angry at me because I need a ride or can't get somewhere at a particular time. Just another thing to deal with. I thought it was a patch containing medication to help with his nausea. Maybe he didn't need it when he was not watching surgery.

Do the writers want us to like Nolly or not? Her line about a coworker "may be late, I saw her at the bus stop when I went past in my car" sounded like a character we are expected to hate, but in some later scenes Nolly was more sympathetic.
