  1. I read that differently. He clearly has worked for this club before, and appeared to know the owner and his daughter. And was aware of her disinterested/cold personality (and we learn that the club owner is a dick, and it is clear he and his daughter treat their hired acts like farm hands from the Great Depression, so no love lost there). And he is a comedian. So I think he had, over multiple attempts at conversation, worked up his level of comedic insult to what would normally be an offensive level, but was just him ratcheting it up a notch after being ignored repeatedly. I laughed, and I expected the daughter to crack a little smile at some point. There are situations where those kinds of exchanges have a story behind them, and the fact Louie (the character) doesn't seem to see that does make him seem uptight - which I am sure is what the other guy read right away. People who view the world only one way are exasperating.
  2. I enjoy bits of the show, and don't enjoy others. And I have no idea what Louie is trying to say. The one about the sleepover girls was the one that made the most sense to me this season. As a fairly anti-social guy, though, even I thought Louie was kind of a dick to his condo mate. They don't have to drink at 10 a.m. but he can engage more. That never would have occured to me, ever. Make love after barfing in a toilet? To a guy you didn't even want to talk to?
  3. Except that, as the show has already shown, Jon left Ghost at home to, in part at least, help keep order while he and his crow allies are gone. And it worked, saving Sam and Gilly. Also, Jon didn't know there would be a battle. He was simply going to get more allies, and then battle happened. The conversation with Dany and Tyrion, the second one when they discussed the great houses, was the first time I had sat up in my chair and listened to this show's dialogue maybe all season. Just really well done, and the twists and turns of their verbal sparring were rivoting. I actually wasn't that impressed with the White Walkers and their zombies, not until that final scene. To see the mysterious, unstoppable White Walkers in the flesh, acting like regular orc leaders or something, brought them down greatly from what i had pictured in my mind. Now they are simply another army, with the added ability to raise those they kill into zombies. I did like that final scene, mostly because of Jon's reaction to what he was seeing. It did give a sense of, 'How the hell do we win this?" Also? No one froze to death in that water? I know they are from the north, but seriously ... hypothermia in minutes, or less.
  4. But at least one has attractive breasts. Which I do not object to seeing. There can be more penises as well, for those who want them. Breasts and penises for everyone. I don't know why Jorah is so in love with the queen. Is it really love, like in a relationship? Or is it it an ideal he wants to be part of? Or is this really just the only place he has left to belong, at this point in his life? Because he is going to great lengths to return to her fold. This whole season feels like it is building up to a spectacular ending, because every story has moved along incrementally and some seem to be converging.
  5. Which is perfect for that character. I like how Truble takes care of business. No overreaction (Juliette). No overwrought grief (Nick). No forgetting to share details with others (everyone). Truble shows up, assesses the situation and acts. The opening shot of her beheading the one wesen and walking off was a great example. Finally, someone taking care of business. See Nick's mom in a box? Yep, see it, so what's the next step? One issue with this show is the constant emotional anguish by the characters over almost anything (Wu excepted). Make a decision people, and own it.
  6. Found this episode to be much more relatable than the past two. Louie still finds ways to do dumb things (talking to a visiting kid about her parents divorce? No), but at least it was within the realm of possibility, and you could empathize. My favorite part was when the obviously uninterested cop told Louie the one guy was on a break, and Louie replied, almost gleefully, "I can wait!" knowing the effect the 8 girls would have in a police station.
  7. I know the monologue joke was wrong. This is SNL, however, and my favorite form of SNL is the one where they do jokes that make me gasp and laugh. And I did at Louie CK's opening. I found that the most boring skit. Needy actors being needy. Blech. Figured that appealed to the cast and the NY acting community. Skipped both of Rihanna's songs. Found Cecily sexy even when she was playing the "Bubbles!" girl.
  8. Count me in on those who love the way VDO is depicting Kingpin. He made the bad guys much more interestin than DD in season one. Sadly, when he went full evil, he lost a lot of his appeal. I liked it when the battle was between two competing, reasonable philosophies on how to make Hell's Kitchen a better place.
  9. That's what I was referring to when I posted "May's trickery." I understand what happened.I still don't know why 33 chose to stay in *May's* form as she went from place to place. No other people were around, if they had shown up she could have changed form to May if she wanted, and she woud have avoided what actually happened. She chose the form of Ward's target, which she knew was Ward's target. ANYONE else would have been better for those moments. But, plot wank is why she did it, I guess.
  10. I liked it. It wrapped up some story lines and introduced more possibilities. I didn't know anything about Hyde, but whatever that was, was comical. And it seemed to be played for comedic effect, so that's OK. Not sure why 33 felt the need to be in May form as she went from one place to another, and Ward of all people should be aware of that possibility, but I did like that it happened because of May's trickery on the radio. That gives Ward another reason to hate May and drive his actions. I liked the ending with Skye and her dad. If the show just had that, and left out "Skye should lead our people," it would have been just right. Raina can't really be dead, can she?
  11. The idea to have (ugh) Captain Cold back up Flash was illogical. Assuming CC did keep his word, what was he going to do if the metas got out? His only option was to shoot to kill. How does that jibe with Barry being "Mr. Right from Wrong"? "We're going to move you to save your lives. But if you escape, we'll have to kill you." What the hell does "Golden Glider" even mean? She glides somehow? There has to be 10 better names than that. I thought Eddie was being a dick at first, until he mentioned there had always been three of them in that relationship. Add to that the fact Joe didn't gove his Ok to Eddie marrying Iris, and I could see how Eddie might decide to exit. The way he handled it was dickish, but I get it.
  12. Red Herring. Iris was being kept in the dark because of fears that her knowing could put her in more danger. It's the grand tradition of comics, from Batman to Spiderman, that once a partner of a superhero knows the identity of the superhero, that partner becomes more likely to be a target. Bad guys see you hanging with the Flash? You're a target. That's why Joe didn't want Iris chasing situations where The Flash/Barry was in danger, or having those situations follow The Flash home. Other people found out because they needed to (at east at the start; later, far too many people have found out, but we don't care much about most of them as viewers). Iris, a main character we are supposed to care about, didn't. And the converse is true: No one knew that NOT telling her would lead to anyone getting killed. I wish the show had had Barry keep his identity from a male friend as well, just to quell the debate. ANd this doesn't even address all of Iris's actions as she chose Eddie and pursued her own wishes. Barry didn't owe her anything, not at that point, not given his motivations were to protect her (misguided or not). Now, telling Eddie? That seemed unnecessary. I know nothing about Grodd. Is he actually getting physically bigger, as someone speculated? He seems to be getting smarter, though no matter how smart he gets, it would seem being a huge ape will reduce the effectiveness of his evilness.
  13. Going to have to disagree there. It's at best 50-50. There have been many scenes where Lizzy was simply supposed to look sad, or angry, or clever, and the way it came across was anything but. Those weren't writing choices. There are many, many people who cannot stand Lizzie and how Boone portrays her. If that's mostly writing, then you're saying the show is consistently portraying one of its two main characters in such a poor light that people can't stand her. That seems unlikely. Back to this episode ... I will be very happy when the show no longer starts a scene with a shot of Sad Tom waiting for Liz somewhere. And also (and this *is* writing), Red is trying to tell Lizzie about an imminent threat, and she says my personal issue is more important? Ugh. Shut up, Liz.
  14. I'm not sure if it says more about me, or this show, that when Drogon flew over Tyrion and Mormont, *I didn't recognize it as a dragon.* I was puzzled, thinking, "is there a place in this world where they have dinosaurs?" Probably more about me. However, the way this show jumps around, I find some transitions jarring. This season still feels very slow to me. I think it is because no one is in immediate danger aside from the quick, suddent threat that pops up now and then. Sansa comes closest, I suppose. But I feel no sense or urgency for anyone. This is the only season where i multitask while watching GoT. So Dany had the one guy fried and eaten without knowing whether he did anything wrong? Did I miss a meaningful glance or another clue?
  15. Agree, after a cringe-worthy season so far. Everone in this episode acted relatively reasonably. No screechy, ridiculous acting out. Though it makes no sense for Alex and Sanjay to get together just as they are each leaving for college. Yes, the colleges are not that far apart geographically, but just heading to two different places at that age disrupt relationships. Most people break up when they head to college.
  16. The only way to get someone who ignores you to listen is to be right, again and again, and to handle that fact competently. Haley has not been right every time, when she turned out to be right she often wasn't very definitive at the time she was right and when she has been proven right later (after being ignored, or unheard, YMMV) she has handled it by yelling far too much and for far too long at Blair. That doesn't encourage people who ignore you to start paying attention to you. All that said, I like her more now than I did, maybe because she seems to recognize that she is being ridiculous as well (though it doesn't stop her from continuing to be so). How much does a backpack weigh for a contestant? The backpacks seems to be getting bigger and heavier. I keep wondering when someone will turtle.
  17. It's so out of character that the whole episode, I was viewing May as being the Hydra agent with the electronic mask, and her behavior made sense as a mole. Then I realized Kara was with Ward, so I can't explain it. What exactly is Cal's superpower again? Other than crazy?
  18. This monster of the week was obvious the moment we met Maggie. I'm not sure what the Jeff Fahey character thought he was doing, inviting Monroe the vegetarian on the hunt (he said he had heard about Monroe, so it can't have been a surprise). It would be like inviting a pacifist to a war game. WTH is the show doing with Juliette? Now she is full on angry enough to kill a pregnant woman? She was annoying and whiney for a long time, then became almost enjoyable as a capable member of the Scooby gang. She brought a kind of toughness and perspective that rounded them out. Then ... this. When you actually root for Nick to kill Juliette and get the character off the show, then something has gone wrong. Are we supposed to feel empathy for Juliette? Or somehow enjoy "bad Juliette"? It ain't happening. If this isn't an endgame to reboot Nick's life as a single Grimm, then it is simply a complete failure on the part of the show. Is Juliette angry because Hexienbeasts are always angry? But then Adalind doesn't seem angry all the time. Maybe you need training to be a hexienbeast? I wonder if there is any value to having a Grimm's child. Assuming that is what the baby will eventually be. And Nick ... dude, *everything* isn't your fault. Sometimes I think Rosalee and Monroe are the only people on this show who react reasonably.
  19. This is a really good point. Every one of those characters are memorable and interesting. Why aren't the FBI people?
  20. This is exactly where I am, and it is why I kind of root for both DD and Fisk, or at least diduntil Fisk got so obvously stabby during the last few episodes. I liked Ben, but Ben (and people who believe as he does) will never "get" Fisk's view. If you refuse to consider removing undesirables, if you see good in everyone and feel those who seem bad are that way for reasons that are not their fault, then you can't accept that some people are beyond saving. And if you are Fisk, you don't know why people who believe as Ben and Matt do waste their time and keep the city from becoming greater. Both are right, there is a lot of gray to wade through there. In a way, it sums up the current political landscape in the US, with DD being liberal and Fisk being conservative. Unfortunately, in those last few eps the show pushed Fisk toward the "clearly evil" side, which was disappointing. He was far more interesting as a person with a different worldview who also dabbled in illegal activity. I hope they bring him back toward the gray but won't hold my breath.
  21. My mileage varried greatly. I couldn't stand this episode. Didn't care about the wesen of the week or their story, detest Bad Juliette and am tired of Adalind and bleeding Renard. I almost deleted it about 25 minutes in. I didn't like Juliette from the beginning of the season, and then, when she found out about Nick and finally accepted it, I liked her being in on it and part of the gang. That lasted five minutes, and now she is annoying again. Ugh.
  22. I was stunned by that as well. Marvin seemed to know what he was doing. This is part of why he is so fascinating, IMO. At this stage, his end goal is very similar to Matt's, except it also enriches Fisk in the process. It's how they are going about it that is different. I thought Vanessa would die and that would send Fisk over to the dark side, fulfilling Gao's prophesy that he must make a choice. But now that she is alive, maybe Fisk will keep walking that line. That would be fascinating. Once the "mwa-ha-ha" comes out, he won't be as interesting.
  23. It was so dark on my screen I couldn't see exactly what was happening, but I got the impression that Nabu catching on fire was the accidental result of separate actions. Did it show DD planning and executing that on purpose? I find Foggy annoying as hell. First, I wouldn't even remember any particular incidents where Matt would have invaded my privacy in the past. I mean, how much could it have mattered? And if Foggy lied, and Matt knew he lied, is the fault with Matt or the "truth cursader' who lied? I saw Foggy's reaction more as an emotional one tied to his own past actions, not to Matt for not telling him. And since Foggy is such a lightweight, I assume the fact he knows Matt's identity now doesn't bode well for Foggy.
  24. Wow, the next day and only two "pages" of comments. Is that a low for GoT? If so, it's understandable IMO. I'm having trouble paying attention this season. Some formerly interesting plots seem like they have hung around too long (Cersei, Jon becoming top guy), and some of the newer plots are not that interesting (Arya, Tyrion). I was actually paying bills while watching last night. I wonder how wise it was for Jon to actually execute Slynt. Sure, it peased Stannis, and it was about respect. But until now, Jon has been more about compassion. I guess in the end, his Stark honor won. Wonder if it wll cost him.
