  1. No offense, but what cave have you been living in? I wouldn't mind a holiday there....
  2. The NFL doesn't "look" horribly out of date and sexist, it IS. And always has been. Unfortunately among its male wealthy peers it isn't really out of date at all. Nothing will change until viewers and buyers stop watching and throwing money at these sexist assholes.
  3. I suppose if you want to see what a technique looks like? Though I doubt all the videos and recipes in the world could make me a great cook or baker lol.
  4. With Goodreads I started reading reviews of books that I either absolutely adore or can't stand and whenever I found another person who agreed with me at least 85% of the time I'd 'friend' them so their reviews always come up at the top (if they accepted the request which they often do). It's turned out in the years since that if they like or don't like a book I'll often feel the same. I also don't depend on what authors people like, as there are so few whose entire oeuvre I either love or hate. Ones that I love occasionally turn out a turd and ones I hate will pull a miracle from who knows where. Next I'll actually read a number of the top reviews for those who hated it and those who loved it. Often I can quickly tell that the reviewer is either complaining about something that I know rarely bothers me, such as the story is told from multiple character POVs or there's not enough action and vice versa. Last, but definitely not least, if I'm not sure I get the book at the library. No harm no foul, no wasted money. Though it can be hard to wait since I've become an audiobook addict. I'll be happy to be Goodreads friends if you want :)
  5. Instagram/Tik Tok influencer types can make good money. But it's a brutal life as the ones that succeed are "in character" 24-7. Lots of burnout. I guess the hope for many of them is to either make enough in a few years to live comfortably afterwards or to transfer into the next level of whatever they'll shilling online. Be it Hollywood, record deal, catering/restaurant/cookbook, etc. Or, for waaaaaayyyy too many of them, celebrity that's not based online only.
  6. Why the hell would a realtor show a flat without an oven to someone who bakes at home for a living?!
  7. Just read an article about her in the Washington Post and she (and the book) sound interesting. Make sure to tell us if it's worth a read when you're done.
  8. Was just re-listening to LOTR and realised that the only part I've skipped every time (excluding the first listen obviously) is the Tom Bombadill chapter(s?). Hell, I've even given some of the poetry and songs a re-try. Am I the only anti-Bombadiller out there?
  9. I would never hire that realtor. He was either saying "screw you I've got automatic privilege so it doesn't matter what I wear" or "I'm lazy and don't care about doing a good job for you". Or possibly, as this is HGTV, "I only play a realtor on tv and wardrobe dressed me this way so blame them".
  10. Yikes. That's a bit harsh, almost like saying a black person shouldn't have an afro or a southern American should get rid of their accent. Who gets to decide what a "pleasant tone" is? Female politicians have been attacked for decades for being "shrill" when they are speaking in a perfectly acceptable way. I always side-eye anyone complaining about how females sound. If it involves what they're saying, then that's fine. Overuse of "like", "literally" etc deserve to be mentioned and bashed a bit.
  11. Why would anyone want to give away all that cash for a house that looks like a place someone flipped and sold for $250k? If I'm splashing out $2.3 million I don't want to be able to walk into a big box store or an under 400k new build and see my house. If I had the money I'd want originality, style, architectural details. In other words, things pretty much never seen on HGTV.
  12. Yeah, it's always girls going to prom and boys who need a garden to play sports in. Ick.
  13. Then again how many homeowners actually are responsible?
  14. Or the killer stairs, and an obsession to see the child at all times while in the kitchen. Also, don't parents actually eat meals with their children on HGTV? It seems they all want an island for the kids to eat at.
  15. I'm also a bit amazed by parents with infants or toddlers who want to buy a house as if that child will never grow and mature.
  16. What do ya'll think about the guardian caps players are wearing during practices? I can see good and bad resulting from what I've read.
  17. Either they couldn't afford to or didn't want to bother so decided they were better of letting someone else deal with it. Hey, in this market I can't blame them.
  18. I'm thinking many marriages don't but that many women don't advance their careers or take opportunities that they should because of their husbands.
  19. That's because all the "rooms" look exactly the same every single episode of every single series. If you've seen two episodes you've seen it all. There is no design in these houses. Just open concept downstairs, small loft like second floor common area, square bedrooms and bathrooms that are all 'designed' the same. No unique architectural features to set anything apart. Because of that they have to focus on everything, and anything, else.
  20. Everyone who loved bios as a kid should go back to them now. I could give you the names of a few of my favourites.
  21. Ugh the world does not need another. I don't think it even needed the first...
  22. You had crappy history teachers. History is the subject that ties every other subject together and most effects human kind. In the end it is the study of people.
  23. It supposedly is a real thing. Tetrachromats are able to see up to 9 million more colours than most people who can only see around 1 million. She just bumped it up, but she may have been a bit jokey at the producers insistence. Supposedly according to recent studies up to 14% of women may have it (only women can have the mutation of Tetrachromacy).
