  1. @UYI, @Annber03, I'm chiming in to add myself to the list. I'm a bit older than you guys but still a virgin for the reasons you described. I was very shy and introverted when I was younger and didn't have many relationships that progressed to that level and for the ones that did it never quite worked out. But honestly at this point in my life it really doesn't bother me. If I meet someone, great, otherwise I'm happy with my friends and family and activities and feel that I have a fulfilling life without that one aspect.
  2. Yep, I've thought that Stephen and Zach work well together since the first episode I saw (the one with the art nerd bits). And that was true again tonight with them goofing around in the barbershop scenes as well as the more serious part of their storyline when TC was trying to get the girl to reconcile with her mother. They really do give off the vibe of good friends who like to snark at each other and I wish we had more scenes where Magnum is included in that dynamic too.
  3. I agree completely. My biggest complaint about the reboot is that there's a bunch of episodes with way too much emphasis on Magnum and Higgins working together where the other characters barely show up. I actually thought the show got really bad with this last fall and then seemed to get better after the holiday break, but the last couple of episodes have gone back to that earlier pattern. I haven't seen Jay in anything other than Magnum so I can't speak to his overall abilities, but I feel like he doesn't get much of a chance to shine here, which is silly considering that he's the title character. Take the episode a couple of weeks ago where Hannah came back. The first scene we see of him, he's tied up being kidnapped, then he's shown on a boat getting punched around. Sure, he manages to escape later but we're just told about it and see some clips rather than the whole escape sequence. And later there's the scene between him and Hannah which could have been very powerful since he's been wondering for years why she betrayed him and his friends and nearly got them killed. Instead, half the scene is Hannah and Higgins raising their hackles at each other and the rest of the scene is Hannah spouting ridiculous platitudes (it's complicated) and generic warnings and then wandering off without really doing anything to dissuade Magnum from coming after her. There was no big confrontation that would let Jay flex his acting chops and without that I really can't say that he's lacking in charisma.
  4. We don't know. By the time Magnum got to the truck she was long gone, presumably so she can return to cause more problems in a future episode.
  5. I forgot about TC asking to borrow Higgy's spanx but that conversation was also a thing of beauty.
  6. I thought The Day the Past Came Back (1 x 15) was another decent episode. It feels like the tone of the show has changed lately and now they’re involving all the characters more instead of just focussing on Magnum and Higgins. Plus we finally got to see what Rick was talking about in the third episode when he told Magnum that even though Hannah had hurt all of them, he and TC didn’t blame Magnum for it. That’s some serious friendship there. It was great seeing everyone working together to search for Magnum and it was nice that Magnum himself was actually competent and escaped from his kidnappers and then managed to stop Hannah from getting away with the gold. I just hope they’re not planning any sort of redemption arc for Hannah since it seems that ship has sailed, even if Magnum does still have some residual feelings for her. I also wish they’d either cut down on the cgi or do it better - the tunnel explosion and truck crash were pretty obvious. Oh, and Rick and TC’s kitchen karaoke at the beginning while in their uniforms was worth the price of admission to me.
  7. I do technical document reviews and it drives me nuts when people provide the additional information I've asked for in a comment instead of in the body of the document. Hello???? You authors do realize that all the comments are removed before the document is sent for final approval, right?
  8. Baby MacGyver - ha! I'm with you on that one. Every time I see clips of the show I wonder why he isn't in school and it pulls me right out of the story so I gave up on that one pretty quick.
  9. I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes the reboot! I really got sucked in when I started recognizing little nods to the original like Kami calling Rick "Casablanca" and TC being interested in the arts. The show sometimes has a little too much Higgins for my taste, especially since I never really cared for that character in the original, but it seems to have found a better balance since it came back from winter break. And, yes, I've thought the same thing about the actors too and started to do the math and then stopped because it was too darned depressing!
  10. Wow - glad to know I'm not the only one who likes this book! I think I picked it up at a yard sale or something like that when I was a teen and I still have it and still occasionally re-read it. All the protagonists are appealing and she does a great job of describing rural Crete before it becomes more modernized. I should read it again when I have some free time.
  11. In general I've liked the most recent episodes since the holidays much better than the earlier ones. They finally seem to be finding a way to showcase all the characters instead of having most of the episode focussed on Magnum and Higgins with the others only showing up for one or two scenes. With that said, I agree with the others who don't understand exactly why Higgins is involved in every single case all the way through. I would find her much more likable if her presence was scaled way back. I also agree that the little touches of continuity are very nice. In addition to bringing back Shammy there were references to a couple of other earlier episodes and it's good to see the writers paying attention to details like that. If they continue doing more ensemble/teamwork stories I'll definitely be looking forward to season 2. @alexa, thank you very much for the info on the song Made It Home. The entire album, In Our Time, is available on YouTube and I suspect I'll end up purchasing it since I quite like several other songs on it.
  12. I agree. Winner Takes All has been my favorite episode so far. I really liked how all the characters had a significant role to play and how they mixed the humor with more serious moments. And I have to admit that the ending where Magnum reflects on how much he appreciates his new family while the chorus "we made it home" played had me a little choked up. Does anyone know what song that's from?
  13. I vote for Richard riding off into the sunset with Hannah (Magnum's old flame) to clear the way for the inevitable Magnum/Higgins romance.
  14. I remember being so excited when the first EU books came out in the early (mid???) 90s because I wanted to see what had happened to the characters after the movies ended. But by the time I finished Timothy Zahn's trilogy I didn't care anymore because I thought Mara Jade was a massive Mary Sue.
  15. I thought this was one of the better episodes of the season. I wasn’t too sure at first since the promos kept teasing the nuclear bomb, but it turned out to mostly be a missing person case and the nuke was only used at the end to justify Sergei not cooperating with Magnum so I didn’t have to suspend my disbelief too much. I really liked how the writers managed to involve all the characters in the main case. I definitely prefer that to having them split off into separate storylines where they only interact briefly. I also liked how each character had a moment to shine, including Kumu when she got the drop on the Russian agent (you go girl!) and Katsumoto when he pulled back the patrol cars. And of course I was very pleased with all the scenes the three main guys had together. Smart-ass Rick is always welcome on my screen and TC had some good moments too like his long-suffering patience when he picked up the other two at the police station and how willing he is to interrupt his tour business to help Magnum. It’s a good thing his passengers were teenagers who didn’t mind playing real-life cops and robbers. It’s really nice to see the guys working together like the team they’re supposed to be. I even liked Higgins in this episode. Previously the writers had done a good job of making me actively dislike her because she’s apparently an expert at everything, and awfully damn arrogant about it too. And this episode started out the same way. But she really redeemed herself in her last scene with Kumu when she was sympathetic and understanding and showed some vulnerability and even a hint of self-deprecating humor (I know I seem cold…the accent doesn’t help.) If they keep writing Higgins like this I may grow to like her again.
  16. I got curious enough to go looking for it. It's on the second page of the Other A Shows. It looks like the Other Shows folder is sorted based on last posting date and not alphabetically and that can make things harder to find. http://forums.previously.tv/topic/4943-absolutely-fabulous/
  17. I guess this is the best thread to put this in - iTunes currently has the complete series of the original Magnum, p.i. on sale for $29.99 if you need a last minute gift for the Magnum fan in your life. 😀
  18. I hadn’t really thought about how ridiculous some of the plot points were until you spelled it out, but that’s pretty bad. I’ll ignore a lot if it gives us more cute scenes like the group hug, but this episode was straining my suspension of disbelief. I don’t watch Peter Lenkov’s other shows. Is this the typical quality of writing or are the Magnum writers (hopefully) just getting the kinks out? I agree about the cast. Even when I don’t like how the character is written (hi Higgins!) I like the actor’s portrayal, so I’d love to see what they all can do with some better material.
  19. Overall I thought this was a decent episode. At the very least it gave us a lot of the guys interacting and less of Higgins saves the day, so that was a definite plus for me. It’s still not quite clicking for me though and I’m not sure why. I think the actors are doing a fine job. Magnum’s little smirk when he asked Higgins to play his wife was cute, and the whole scene of them acting like a married couple and bamboozling the hotel staff was amusing. Rick was his usual smart ass self, but had some quieter moments with Toni that really made me believe he cared about her. TC got in some good snark too when Magnum pulled him into the case. And I really enjoyed Katsumoto and his deadpan reactions to Magnum and the team, like when he told Magnum he recognized his voice from the tip line and his conversation with Rick about the gun permits. (I wonder if that’ll become an issue in a later episode the way it did in the original?) So I think my problem is with the writing. It just feels clunky to me, like they have certain scenes or outcomes in mind that they absolutely want to include even if the characters have to behave unrealistically to get there. It still makes no sense to me that the whole armed robbery was just an elaborate ruse to get the safe deposit box key and I can’t believe that Katsumoto would ever agree to basically hijack a ship with a bunch of civilians, even if they did try to lampshade that plot point a little. Hopefully over the break they’ll have a chance to tighten up the writing some more and come back with stronger stories for next year.
  20. Same here! After looking at all the clips I decided I couldn't wait for it to show up on basic cable the way I usually do. 😆 In addition to the clips posted above I had to laugh at just about the entire train scene, despite all its problematic bits. Jamie Lee Curtis' horrendous Swedish accent and her "Ja, from Sveden" when she gets called on it, Al Franken's bit part as the baggage handler, and Beeks' final comeuppance when he gets locked in with the gorilla are all still really amusing to me.
  21. This one is really old school, but I was watching an episode of Hogan’s Heroes last week where Hogan has the Germans running in circles, building a boat of all things. LeBeau turns to him and says “This is the master race that’s going to take over the world? HA!!” Given that LeBeau is played by Robert Clary who spent three years in a concentration camp as a teenager and lost most of his family there, that absolutely qualifies as a Hell Yeah moment.
  22. This whole movie is so much more adorable than I ever expected. The friendship that develops between all four of them - Louis, Billy Ray, Ophelia, and Coleman - as they band together to defeat the Dukes is just great and the final shot of all of them enjoying the good life together on a tropical island always makes me smile.
  23. Yep! Laura was NOT going to let anything happen to her little sister Carrie and as a kid I loved that. But I will admit that when I re-read this part a few years ago, I wondered what the situation was between Laura and the Wilders at the time the book was published. I can't think of a more spectacular way of blowing up your relationship with your in-laws than writing your sister-in-law as a character with no redeeming qualities.
  24. Meh. The way the episode description was written I thought we'd get a lot of Magnum backstory but instead most of the episode was taken up by Magnum and Higgins talking, and driving, and running through the jungle, and tracking down the bad guys. Although her deadpan "Proceed" when Magnum was trying to get the location of Amanda's mother from the one guy was pretty good. Best line of the episode: TC's "Gimme that, pretty boy" when he grabbed the shovel from Rick.
  25. When I first watched the show as a kid I hated how her schemes would make Laura and the other Ingalls' lives difficult and I couldn't wait for her plots to fail and for her to get her comeuppance. Re-watching when I was older I could really appreciate the spark she brought to the show and what a great character she was for the others to play off of. RIP, and thank you for all the entertainment you provided over the years.
