  1. Yeah, a lot of places promote their race as a way to burn off some extra calories before the big turkey dinner πŸ˜€ plus as you said they usually benefit local charities. Since I don't have family nearby I thought this would be something different to do for Thanksgiving as well as giving back to the community a little. I mostly volunteer these days and have met some very nice people. And some of the races will even give you a t-shirt or other swag for helping out.
  2. You’d be surprised at how many groups hold a 5K on Thanksgiving day. It’s easy to sign up to run/walk or volunteer at one if you’d like to get out of the house for a little and interact with other people. https://runsignup.com/Races
  3. I just saw the news about Matthew Perry and I'm in shock. He was my favorite character on Friends and I liked some of his later work too like Mr. Sunshine and The Odd Couple. I always hoped he'd be able to overcome his issues. RIP 😒
  4. You're more of an optimist than me. πŸ˜„ As soon as Ben said that he didn't want Addison as his hologram anymore, I figured that within the next episode or two Ben'll run into a situation where only Addison has the knowledge/skills to save him. That'll force them to work together and work through their issues enough that by the end of the episode Addison will be back as the hologram and we'll be stuck with an angst-filled love triangle between her, Ben, and her new boyfriend. πŸ™„
  5. "...some of it's magic, some of it's tragic But I had a good life all the way." RIP 😒
  6. I grew up in a rural community in the 70s and 80s and just about everyone took the bus. I lived on a farm and was one of the first people on the bus, but I think 7 am was the earliest I'd get picked up - 6:40 would have been brutal. On the flip side though, my bus was one of the first to leave in the afternoon. All the outlying buses left first so we wouldn't be stuck behind buses that were dropping kids off in town. I don't know of anyone who regularly walked to school, although I'm sure some of the people who lived close by did. Once we were old enough to drive we were allowed to get a permit to park at the school, but most people still took the bus unless they had after school activities. Even if you drove you weren't allowed to leave the school grounds for lunch (not that there were many places to go to anyway) so hearing about all the flexibility some of you had is really wild to me. πŸ™‚
  7. So far the only workaround I've found is really limited. If you click on the last of the top posts and then click on the right arrow, you'll be taken to the most recent post using the hashtag. From there you can continue clicking the right arrow to see older posts. But I haven't found any way to search the posts or view them out of order. It's a cumbersome workaround that's only effective if the hashtag isn't too popular and you only want to see recent posts. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
  8. Bloom County!!! I went to college in the late 80s just as that strip was hitting it big and was in all the college newspapers. Man, I followed that strip religiously for years. Opus and Milo and Binckly and Steve Dallas and Bill the Cat and Oliver Wendel Jones with his Banana Junior 30000. Good times!
  9. I go to a local creek which has a well known swimming hole with a rope swing and everything. The funny thing is that I find this semi-official swimming spot too crowded and noisy so I hike a little further downstream to another location that has a small area deep enough to swim and float a little plus some nice large rocks that I can sit on and dangle my feet in the water while I'm reading. Best of all, there's rarely anyone else there! πŸ˜„
  10. I'm staying in the house today. I was thinking of going to the local swimming hole this afternoon, but even early this morning it was too hot for me to be comfortable outside. I do have outdoor plans tomorrow morning, so I'll be stuck dealing with the heat and humidity then since the front won't make it through here until later in the day. But the highs next week should only be in the mid-80s with low(er) humidity. I can't wait!
  11. Another alternative might be a hiking pole since that would give him some support but isn't as obvious as a cane. That's what I used to get around earlier this year when I sprained my knee.
  12. It really bugs me too, especially because at this point I think it's become a rote, meaningless phrase to a lot of people. It's like there's an expectation to say that to any veterans without really thinking about why you're thanking them. The Magnum PI reboot actually had a good scene addressing this (IMO). One of the characters is turned down for a business loan because he doesn't have enough collateral after being in the Marines for several years. But as he tells a friend "At least he [the loan officer] thanked me for my service, so there's that." If the loan officer really wanted to show some appreciation for Rick's service he would have tried harder to get him a loan.
  13. In my 20s and early 30s my period was usually every 22-24 days but it wasn't unusual for it to be as short as 21 days. As I got older it lengthened a little to 25-27 days but I rarely had the "typical" 28 day cycle.
  14. If it makes you feel any better, I flew home first class after a day of hiking the back country in Yosemite. Even though I changed before I left the park, I was still exceedingly scruffy looking and no one batted an eye. πŸ™‚ It was so nice to be able to stretch out my legs and have a couple of glasses of wine once I boarded. Admittedly, I was so tired from all the hiking that I promptly fell asleep after drinking the wine and didn't wake up until we landed so I didn't get to appreciate the full experience. πŸ˜‰
  15. There's certainly more than enough real issues to be concerned about in the world today, so it frustrates me when people like the pyrex blogger manufacture controversy to get their 15 minutes of fame instead of trying to do something that's actually useful.
  16. Her tail is a blur. πŸ˜€ What a sweetie!
  17. Thanks for this info. One of my cats has a couple of sore spots. His annual checkup was last week and the vet thinks it's either allergies or an autoimmune issue. He's on steroids now which seem to be helping but I'll definitely look into getting him some fish oil too.
  18. Yeah, I believe in the original script Elizabeth reprogrammed the doomsday device, which at least made a little more sense than disarming it with her "magic sparkles". I remember being so excited that V was going to be a weekly series and then so disappointed when they killed off half the cast in the first two episodes, then they got rid of half of the remaining cast when they essentially did a soft reboot midway through the season. The remaining episodes were SO bad, but I watched it because they brought in Philip as Martin's twin brother. And to bring this back on topic, there was a decent hell yeah moment in the last episode when Diana's soldiers have the resistance surrounded. The humans are about to make a last stand when Philip orders all the alien soldiers back to the ship because he's brokered a peace deal with the supreme leader. Diana looked like she was going to explode when she found out - Jane Badler was a great villain!
  19. Same! It's too bad things started going downhill with the second miniseries and the weekly series basically turned into a bad soap opera. I watched it to the bitter end but I doubt that I could make it through an entire episode now.
  20. For me the important thing is that the story maintains its internal consistency, especially in sci-fi and fantasy where they're not bound by real-world rules. So OK, a flux capacitor can be used to travel thru time, but it has to be powered somehow (lightning bolt, Mr. Fusion πŸ˜„) and the car has to reach 88 mph before it activates. Those details were important plot points that remained the same across all three movies, so I didn't notice or mind any other inconsistencies. But in Lost the writers were apparently just throwing everything against the wall to see what sticks and the lack of internal logic got frustrating for viewers.
  21. I keep coming back and looking at this picture of her so sound asleep with her little tongue sticking out. πŸ₯° Now that is a happy cat! She's so lucky she found you guys.
  22. This is the first episode I remembered to watch this year and it was....OK. My biggest annoyance is something that even I'm willing to admit is petty - they assumed Ben would have infinite opportunities to find the killer. I get that they were relieved to realize that Ben was in a time loop and wasn't dead after all, but they're all supposed to be geniuses and no one even thought to question if it was an infinite loop? It would have worked a lot better for me if they'd had a throwaway line about why they thought that only to later realize that they'd made a bad assumption and he only had a limited number of leaps. Also, Addison really doesn't work for me. Her reaction when she thought Ben was dead was definitely over the top and the rest of the time I just don't care about her. On the plus side, I do think having Ben leap into multiple people was an interesting approach that I wouldn't mind occasionally seeing again. I also like how the team figured out that there was a coverup by finding out that all the supposedly unrelated deaths occurred within a few days of each other. And I liked how Janice had a chance to get more involved with Quantum Leap. I have a soft spot for that character since she's Al's daughter so I hope that eventually she becomes a full member of the team.
  23. I'm glad I'm not the only person who feels that way! I much prefer a written version since I can read it more quickly and easily skim any parts that I'm not interested in - it's hard to skip ahead in a video without missing something. I also have never been able to get into podcasts. I'm sure some have interesting content but I don't have the patience to sit and listen to an extended discussion just to hear the parts I care about.
  24. I really liked how the station's ratings gradually improved over the show's four seasons. I especially liked Johnny's arc and how he went from thinking he was too old and washed up to ever be a rock and roll DJ again in the pilot to becoming the station's most popular DJ and then the top morning DJ in the city by the final episode. Since there was an earlier storyline where Johnny left the station due to his new-found popularity, it would have been interesting to see what he did next, especially since as @giovannif7 pointed out, he was instrumental in forcing Mrs. Carlson to continue the rock and roll format.
  25. I live in a new-ish (20 years old) development in an exurb and I'm grateful every time a big storm comes through that our power lines are underground. We rarely lose power here and if we do it's usually only for a few hours at most, but the older homes outside the development have above ground power lines and I'll hear their generators running for days.
