  1. After watching two seasons of Dragula, this episode fell pretty flat for me. I wouldn’t expect the Drag Race folks to be at Dragula levels, but knowing what’s possible made them seem mostly uninspired.
  2. I’ll admit I have a bias as I’m struggling to finish up a PhD program, but I’m really irritated that Ru keeps calling her doctor. Silky said she applied to a PhD program, not that she was admitted or was working on it. When she said what the program would be in, I also wondered if it was a predatory for-profit program simply because of how it was named. I’m not going to rag on anybody struggling to read a teleprompter though. I don’t read at a distance quickly, so I’m sure I’d struggle with it too. The colonel thing amused me, in part because I can see speaking quickly without fully engaging the brain just to keep up with the scroll.
  3. Tessa's nude shirt (that may or may not have been trying to look like a strapless bra - I don't think the design went around to the back) reminded me of the fake tattoo sleeve shirts they used to sell at Hot Topic. While there probably wasn't time for it, I think some of the non-horn teams would have benefited from having the makeup team add color to their body modifications. While I don't think the feather team did a good job showcasing the feathers, I also thought the feathers needed some attention. They didn't have the same kind of depth as the other body modifications.
  4. There are websites that let non-colorblind folks see something how a colorblind person would see it. I’ve thought about doing that with AR’s designs. I think the yellow might be giving the most contrast for him to other colors, and it helps me understand his choices. I was confused by my reaction to Michelle’s fabric choices. When she was whining about the fabrics being ugly, I thought they matched better than most of the fabric sets she’s used all season. I didn’t hate them, but I did hate what she did with them. I don’t think she picked the right foundation fabric color that complemented the others. And I agree with the comments above about the other issues.
  5. I took Lady Gaga to also mean that there are a lot of hours put into something that seems so “short.” I don’t know what production was like for A Star is Born, but I’ve heard of 16+ hour production days for other things. While I think actors probably make way too much money, especially when other professions make way too little money, people reduce too often reduce their pay down to “thousands of dollars for a half hour!” when far more time went into it than us understood.
  6. Thanks for helping me figure out more of why her wording irritated me so much! I’m in Oregon as well, and I was additionallg annoyed that she didn’t seem to actually understand that the third option isn’t referred to as “gender-neutral.” Maybe she was just trying to use the language of the show, but I think it’s more “I read a headline so I totally get all the nuances!” She came across the same way, to me, when talking about her friend’s kid with autism.
  7. I’m pretty sure it’s a feeding tube as she has gastric paralysis and can’t eat the food she cooks.
  8. Rami is all of one inch shorter than Freddie. I looked into after rolling my eyes at that justification. It’s not hard to find pictures of Freddie Mercury standing next to the much taller Brian May and see that Freddie was far from “so tall.”
  9. This article from the New Yorker does a nice job showcasing T-Pain's rise to fame and the cruelty of plummeting and being delegitimized into a joke. Fame and popularity are fickle beasts, and I think this show would provide a great way for people to hear him without all of their preconceived notions about his artistry. Weird Al's parody of Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines is pretty great.
  10. When using the search bar to pull up a forum, there seems to be a problem if the forum includes an apostrophe. For example, I wanted to pull up RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars. The search pulls up two options (RuPaul's Drag Race and RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars), I click on the All Stars link, and it puts "RuPaul (x)" in the search bar before redirecting to the RuPaul's Drag Race forum. To test, I also tried to go to Guy's Grocery Games, and the search truncated down to "Guy" and redirected to the first Guy's forum (Guy's Big Project). I've had this happen on Chrome in Windows as well as on Safari on an iPhone. Thanks for all the work you do!
  11. I had “Jenny from the Block” pop in my head from the NY part of the clue and it just wouldn’t stop playing in my mind to let me think about other artists. I knew she wasn’t 90s, but it’s hard to think when a song stomps around in the brain. We laughed at the talons answer in our household as I tell Mr. Pallida he has talons if his toenails get a little long.
  12. I appreciated Coach Mellor being good at math - and the underlying message that athleticism and academia are not mutually exclusive skill sets. I think I need a Coach Mellor to motivate me daily!
  13. That's why I never cared when I didn't know answers for "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader." I learned a lot then - and learned a lot since then. I can't remember it all!
  14. I felt like I was Alex Trebeck, being snobby and correcting the pronunciation of Sami from the video clue and Alex’s pronunciation of gravenstein. I don’t mind contestants pronouncing wrong, but the show should be right!
  15. I appreciated that across the 8 episodes, we got small insights into Jean's experience with her marriage - and how her professional life was intertwined with her personal life. I liked that I had to piece together these tidbits to understand - but not approve - how she would write about her son without truly thinking through the ramifications. It's a topic that her ex-husband knows nothing about since he's rather absentee in Otis's life.
  16. Did Sunny’s dress have a foundation fabric in addition to the tulle? I was thinking about the suggestions above about adding a blue layer, but realized tulle isn’t opaque and perhaps part of why he didn’t use the blue fabric he bought was because of the color blending into green. Anthony Ryan’s made me think of Sporty Spice. I know the filming dates make this “old” but not that old!
  17. I checked J-Archive and the wording was “Due to the smell, this person who cured animal hides into leather usually had his business on the outskirts of town.” Based on that, I would say no to taxidermy. But, now I’m curious about the preservation procsss in taxidermy so off to the google rabbit hole I go!
  18. I read it for 8th grade English and remember liking it. Jeopardy keeps reminding me I should read it as an adult.
  19. My coworker’s son has an egg allergy, and I’ve benefitted from his wife (trained pastry chef) experimenting. Tasty is tasty whether it’s vegan or not!
  20. He gave an accent when he revealed Arnold. I was shocked he didn’t do it during the clue!
  21. I was surprised they were going to allow just “Citizens United” as every other answer required both sides. I couldn’t think of the v. FEC, and I wonder if the contestants were worried they’d have to know that part.
  22. Anybody else mutter to themselves while reading the pronunciation posts to try to figure out if you say things both ways? Just me? :) Mr. Pallida compared Erik’s mannerisms to Napoleon Dynamite. I don’t love some of his wild guesses, but I do appreciate his extensive knowledge and find his hair to be fabulous.
  23. To throw a wrench in the flights of stairs count, Mr. Pallida pointed out that it seems like there’s a landing and switchback between floors, so even if the 4th floor was theee levels above ground level, couldn’t that be called six flights of stairs?
  24. This episode made me angry not because Sheldon tried to "fix" things (because, really, it's not out of character for him), but because it was a horribly false portrayal of research and how research teams can change. If she has grant funding as mentioned above (most likely), the granting agency likely requires their approval. Furthermore, Amy's research involves animals, at least, and I seem to recall she's done experiments on humans as well. There are federal regulations on these kinds of experiments, with pretty extensive oversight. Changing the principal investigator requires approval, and the original principal investigator is going to be involved in that. I don't think the show needs to ever going into those kinds of fine details, but the misrepresentation of how scientific research with living things is conducted seriously irritated me.
  25. I was really quite annoyed at the Clownfish clue saying that they change genders. It's like pet adoptions sites saying gender. Biological stuff versus social constructs. It shouldn't be this hard. Sex isn't a dirty word. Soapbox rant done. I was hung up thinking about cossacks and couldn't come up with anything for FJ.
