S05.E04: Ghosts From The Past
IvySpice replied to greekmom's topic in 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days
He'd been practicing that sentence; it's the only one he had. I did the same thing in Japan. My Japanese is about as rudimentary as Hamza's English. I would percolate a draft sentence in my mind well in advance of its use. -

I don't think she'd be good with it on any level whatsoever. She's tolerating it as a theoretical idea (and her friends clearly didn't believe SHE thought it would work). But a flesh-and-blood woman 20+ years younger than her being anywhere near Usman? She will not be ok with that, not even if the woman is a crossover from "My 600-Pound Life" instead of from "Sister Wives." -
The live chat comment comparing Margaret to the trash heap in Fraggle Rock had me HOWLING. I'm booked on the bus to Hell. Dr. Paradise is an angel, isn't he? He found a calm, positive way to look at Margaret's toddler behavior and encourage Millie to see her as an independent being. I mean, adults don't throw tantrums over their mommies, but they do choose when to leave situations, so...fair enough?

90 Day Fiancé: Pillow Talk
IvySpice replied to Frozendiva's topic in 90 Day Fiancé: Other Spinoffs & Specials
In America, I'm totally down with this. "Not in my house" is ridiculous. Engaging in a stupid game where we pretend that adults don't, or shouldn't, have sex is pointless. Teach your child to make decisions around sex that are safe, consensual, kind, etc. But unless you're Amish, the morality/decorum ship sailed in the '60s. In a Muslim country in North Africa, it's a different story. That's a whole different set of legal and social boundaries. We don't know if Mother Hamza is going to be shamed, arrested, told she's running a brothel... Much as I would want to share a room with my fiancé, I'm not breaking those rules in Tunisia. And to then sneak around in such a lazy, sloppy way that you get caught, and on TV no less -- no. That's wrong. -

Sister Hamza is GORGEOUS. I don't know if she's looking for a U.S. husband, but she will certainly have offers after this airs. I thought it was quite sad that this sweet, fatherless little boy hasn't had better stepdad candidates to pin his hopes on yet. It doesn't seem like Ximena has much of a track record picking dads. Dear TLC, please don't break Juan's heart the way Tiffany's son Daniel had to suffer. I appreciated Mike taking Harold's shoes off while Harold was crying about having to go to bed by himself. It seemed like he had decent dad instincts there. I'm shaking my head over Ella. Do we think it's all TLC's doing that we get so much emphasis on her weight and potential weight loss? Or do she and Johnny actually believe this delusion that there's going to be long-term change there? Unless they're planning a crossover with My 600-Pound Life, people who are 200+ pounds overweight are not going to lose a lot and keep it off. That is incredibly rare absent surgical intervention. You know that Ella has to have tried to cut calories a million times, and it appears she's already pretty active, so good luck with the Chinese-food diet working a miracle there. -
I like the successful Pounders! Bring on more Lucases. This episode was a reminder that poverty, ignorance, and isolation play a big role in recovery or lack thereof. Lucas had been to college prior to his descent into addiction. He has a safe and stable place to live, with family who appear to be comfortably middle or working-class and employed. He didn't appear to have the kind of personality disorder that drives away healthy contacts and attracts codependents and abusers. It's not that surprising that he was able to implement the goals more accurately and quickly than some of the hopeless cases we've seen.

S05.E03: First Date, Second Thoughts
IvySpice replied to greekmom's topic in 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days
Hell, I am attracted to Alina, and I don't even date girls. I think she's sexy from a purely shallow standpoint, not even taking into account her brains and personality. Caleb is busted if he doesn't see it. And what is the point of straight men anyway if they are going to give sour attitude over carrying the luggage? I expect my husband to do that for me even though I'm able bodied and fairly fit. If I wanted to put my own bag in the overhead bin, I would travel alone. -

What would become of us without gay best friends? Every 90 Dayer would be so much better off... -

Chantel, easily, though I wouldn't be thrilled about any of the three. If Danielle were employed doing anything but mopping the floors, I'd run screaming from that hospital. -

Gino's laugh is exactly like Josh Gad as Elder Cunningham in the Book of Mormon musical, heard around :21 on this track. RIGHT HERE!!

Writing this from Vegas...there are LOTS of Tammys here, far more than there are thin, young showgirls, strippers, servers, etc. And that's just based on who's visible on the street. Most Tammy-level folks are stuck at home, not strolling (or motorized-wheelchairing) down the Strip. Unless you're at an upscale resort pool or the kind of nightclub that only lets beautiful people in, most of the barely-covered asses on display belong to people who look more like Amy than like strippers. I am still not entirely recovered from some of the wardrobe choices I saw this summer at the In-N-Out Burger at the Linq. Bring your eye bleach.

Just BYU. That was Real World: New Orleans. It's a lot harder to get excommunicated from the church than it is to get kicked out of BYU. Even violating the dress code repeatedly could get you kicked out of BYU.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

Looks to me like these people have started to take the advice of their PR team at last. Both of those statements are about as good as they could be. -

Does anyone know if there is going to be a reunion show now that the season is over? -
We know that Steven and Alina didn't have a temple sealing for eternity because you can't get one during the first year of church membership. A civil marriage in any country is legit for this lifetime, though, and they don't have to wait to consummate.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
IvySpice replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
Yeah, it's hard for me to see her as having any agency in her own life, however old she is and however many children she has. I can't blame her for clinging to Smuggar's hand with everything she's got. He IS everything she's got. The air she's breathed since infancy tells her she has no value except as his wife. What's she going to do? Divorce him? Live like a widow in her parents' house with seven children, as the object of pity and contempt for all who see her? Even people who believe Josh did wrong might blame Anna for not keeping him happy at home. She's a prisoner. -

It's possible that Kayla is blaming anxiety on her IUD and they had nothing to do with one another. But any hormonal birth control can impact mental health, especially depression and anxiety. It could have worsened her symptoms. (So she should have gotten a non-hormonal IUD or her damn tubes tied, because she clearly can't handle a method that requires consistent practice, but here we are.) -

I say good for Kayla! Of course it's ridiculous that she took out the IUD without an adequate replacement birth control method, but this is one of the first well-thought-out decisions we've seen her make in the last three years. She's actually a very typical abortion patient: early 20s, already a mom, in a long-term relationship. I hope that she's not getting a bunch of hate and threats for making the right call for her family. -
Kenny & Armando on the Pacific coast not far south of San Diego. It's basically the best climate in the world. Any condo with an ocean view shouldn't need AC in that part of the world.

Rachel: I did perfectly fine without my dad! O RLY? Does she know we have seen previous episodes of this show? Rachel and her sister really set the bar low, don't they? They're better at parenting than their mom, who abandoned them for years to get high. They really appear not to know that there are levels of parenting beyond that. Brianna sure has excuses for all of her misbehavior. Screaming at your family because they remind you that you're keeping them waiting is top of the line teenage-girl BS, not the action of a so-called "adult." -
Can we talk about how outstanding Dr. Paradise is at his job? He's so candid while still being kind. And he knew exactly what question to ask Amber: "Do you respect him?" Nope, no, she does not. Both spouses had to sit with that truth.

How much trauma can you pack into one short life? Any one of ten separate things in Jesse’s life would have made addiction predictable. To lose your only stable parent…then to be abandoned by your mom over and over again as she goes through a cycle of recovery and relapse…then to be abused and attacked by both peers and staff in a group home… But yes, so likable. I loved that Jesse was like: he, she, whatever…I’m all the genders and none, so any pronouns work, who cares? I wonder what work Mama Jesse was doing that allowed her to give Jesse $500/week (that she would admit to!). After all those years of addiction, she can’t have that much earning power.

He and his sister went to English-immersion private school. I have to keep reminding myself that Alina's only 20. Of course she's going to make terrible decisions when she's 20 and thinks she's in love. You just have to hope they don't have kids, and when they inevitably break up, she can go back to school and get a fresh start.

That's what it looks like to me. That, or she likes to be hero-worshiped by her bestie instead of befriending an equal. Doesn't she have five children?? How can she possibly have time to hang out with Brianna constantly. Yeah. Their decision not to make their relationship TV-official right away is the best decision we've ever seen Brianna make, so maybe something positive is happening there. I'm a little worried about seeing Brianna with a sperm-producing partner, though. Her preference for trans guys may have been the only factor keeping Braeson an only child. Yep. Why is that voice-of-reason friend letting Rachel move in and SHARE HER ROOM? You better listen to your host, Rachel, because she's warning you that you're driving her close to the edge. Poor Hazelee. She'd be so much better off adopted by a responsible family.
