Spoiler Discussion: The apple was poisoned?!
Souris replied to regularlyleaded's topic in Once Upon A Time
I'll be over here sobbing under my desk. I have had this exact fic idea in my head for MONTHS! Except in my head it was Killian who ended up there and Emma went after him. Maybe I'll actually write it during the hiatus. (Knowing me, probably not.) I'm also skeptical how much will actually be in the scene shown. They'll probably do a bunch of cut-aways to Regina's reaction. -
Fandom and Viewer Issues: "Fan" Is Short for "Fanatic"
Souris replied to Emma's topic in Once Upon A Time
It's totally crazy. There was one lesbian CS shipper on tumblr who was told by SQ fans that she wasn't gay enough because she doesn't ship SQ. I mean, WHAT? (Heck, I wonder if it was your SIL! It was in my very early tumblr days, and I can't remember her user name.) It's like the only way anybody cannot be homophobic to them is to ship SQ. They also gave Yvette Nicole Brown so much grief for saying something nice about CS that she stopped commenting on the show altogether. -
Ratings and Scheduling: Who's the fairest of them all?

However long their contracts are for, I can't see most of the cast wanting to extend theirs. -

Also, ABC tends not to announce renewals early, like other networks do. -
Fandom and Viewer Issues: "Fan" Is Short for "Fanatic"
Souris replied to Emma's topic in Once Upon A Time
Absolutely. If somebody on Twitter says they don't like SQ, they are immediately called homophobic. I've had it happen to me too many times to count, despite the fact that I've never said anything derogatory about same-sex couples (because I wouldn't), have called out homophobia and have made it more than abundantly clear that my problem with SQ is that I hate Regina and think Emma deserves a partner who supports her and isn't a selfish, whiny me-monkey. Is there homophobia in the Once fandom? Sadly, yes, because it's unfortunately part of society. But too many people in the SQ fandom use it simply as a way to try to shut up or discount people who don't like SQ. They're using a real social issue to bully others, and that's not any less wrong than anybody being bullied for being gay. Plus it undermines the actual societal problem when you apply the label to things than aren't homophobic. As for the person who sent threats to Christie, boy did she get deservedly lambasted by the rest of the OQ community. They did not put up with that shit. Sean spoke out forcefully, bless him. Unfortunately, Lana made a joke that supported Marian dying about that same time, which I did not think was cool at all. The blowback over that Christie incident contrasts to the fact that a lot of SQers came to the defense of the girl who last week threatened to stab Sean at a convention she was going to. Sean's convention rep found out about it and had her banned from the convention, and naturally had some choice words for her and her supporters. He probably shouldn't have interacted with the SQ Bad Apples to the extent that he did, but when it's about the life and safety of a person that you're actually friends with, I can understand the desire to fight back. That set off the latest fandom brouhaha, and it's escalated since then. The Shatner stuff last night was all kinds of crazy. I generally don't agree with a lot of his posts, but he made some very good points about bullying in fandoms. God knows he's seen all kinds of fandom insanity over the years.- 4.7k replies

OUAT vs. Other Fairy Tales: Compare & Contrast
Souris replied to Camera One's topic in Once Upon A Time
I finally saw Cinderella today, and I had the exact same reaction as you. It was sweet and utterly lovely. It had a depth to it that I wasn't expecting -- I teared up multiple times -- and I really appreciated that it took the time to flesh out the prince and his father. The sets and costumes were utterly gorgeous. Lily James was luminous. It hinted at why the stepmother was so hard, but like you said, it wasn't an excuse -- too many works these days treat explanations as excuses. (Looking at you, Once.) I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done, Sir Branagh! Didn't enjoy the Frozen short before it, alas. It was wan and left me, well, cold. (Sorry.) And honestly, it felt a little weird seeing it animated again, as I'd gotten to think of Once's actors as the characters. -
Hugs, Dani-Ellie! Of course you still miss her.

I also think the show could survive without Rumple. (Hell, The X-Files went another year without MULDER, for heaven's sake!) I do think they'd have to cut cast if there's a point where ABC wanted to extend contracts. I'm sure not all cast would be willing to commit to extra years, raise or no. ABC has so little in the drama department pulling in decent ratings -- pretty much they have only Shonda Rhimes's shows and Once -- that Once is likely to hang on longer with dropping ratings than if it were on another network. To me, it mostly depends on what the actors' contract length actually is. -

FWIW, a couple of set regulars seem to think that Season 5 will be the last. They say that's just their opinion. Though katmtan says the actors have five-year contracts -- which we've debated about before without knowing for sure either way. If that is true, I'd think Season 5 would likely indeed be the last. If they're not on five-year contracts, then I think the show would last the length of their contracts. A large cast plus contract negotiations with raises -- that would make it financially difficult to extend. -

Judging by the number of cast chairs, there were a LOT of people filming yesterday. -

Frankly, IMO they're both taking away time that could have been using for something way more interesting. Like Henry watching paint dry. -

She also could be referring to something in the Enchanted Forest AU. Like Emma is the Evil Queen in the AU or something. -

Unless the clue expressly forbade using it, they shouldn't be penalized for stumbling across it/figuring out there was one. I think the clue must not have forbade it, because several teams seemed surprised it existed when the next clue said they could use it. Steve & Aly rocked the leg. #CaptainObvious? The hashtag should've been #FreeBlair. That poor guy. Despite the fanny pack stupidity, credit to Laura and Tyler for not freaking out about it. -

Yes, I wonder how the show will play this. (If they bother playing it much at all, which is never a sure thing even if they have a gold mine to draw from.) Is Hook far enough along that he'll be able to hold onto the light that Emma has brought him, even through his pain? Will he be able to take constructive action in an attempt to save her? Or will losing her just completely break him? I would not put it past this show to have it be Regina who moves heaven and earth to save Emma while Hook wallows in a drunken stupor on the Jolly doing nothing. I distrust A&E that much. I know, that would make zero sense for the CS story, but, you know why I'm so cynical about it. -

Man, I wish I trusted the writers to do this justice. It has so much potential. I'm sure there will be a huge rash of great angsty CS fics spawned from it. But I just worry they'll have CS separated for all of 5A, then wrap it up with a 26-second scene. Because TS, TW. -

Ah, good, maybe she'll be too busy to be a regular then. Though The Returned will need to be renewed, and it sounds like its ratings aren't so hot. -

I have a suspicion that the Apprentice may end up dead. It will really suck if Emma is separated entirely from the rest of the main cast for an extended period. I know they did it with Henry for the bulk of 3A, but, well, that was Henry. It's possible Emma could end up somewhere with Rumple teaching her how to be the Dark One or something, but I don't want Emma separated from everyone for too long. (If that's where it's going and she didn't deliberately poof herself away.) I have this odd feeling that Lily may become a regular next season. I don't know why. -

It's odd, though, that Mal hasn't been spotted in awhile, but Lily is in the last day with the main cast. (Set regulars seem to think that next Tuesday & Wednesday filming will be akin to the tease with Elsa, since the main cast's wrap day is today. Monday is a Bank Holiday, so no filming.) -

I also noticed that wording. I side-eyed it, since I had been hoping we'd be done with Lily, too. Really, do we need any more main or recurring characters? (The answer is NO.)
