  1. Minnesota nice wins again!
  2. Godammit, Dot, you should have finished him off when you had him down!
  3. ZLiving is running the "Jack Benny Show" on Thurs. One of the episodes this week is about the vault under Benny's house where he keeps his money. I remember seeing this as a kid I it always stuck with me. I thought it was hilarious.
  4. The "Rosey Grier Show", a variety show, ran for three seasons from 1968-1970. I think it was a time when there was a push for more diversity on air.
  5. Uber is shutting down Drizly https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/15/business/uber-is-shutting-down-drizly/index.html
  6. R.I.P., Joyce Randolph, "Trixie", last of the "Honeymooners." https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/joyce-randolph-dead-trixie-the-honeymooners-1235871316/
  7. Sad. The show is still funny, despite some un-PC elements. Quite different from the other sitcoms of that era.
  8. Grier co-starred for a season on the "Daniel Boone" TV show.
  9. I liked that they showed a Zatoichi (the blind masseur swordsman gambler) movie Friday night. It was like a throwback to TCM Underground.
  10. Napalm Casserole? Or he washes his pots and pans in Napalmolive?
  11. Then that ad is immediately followed by an ED ad.
  12. "Banacek" had George Peppard as an independent insurance investigator solving impossible crimes. Unfortunately, I think there were only 17 episodes. It was one of the NBC revolving mystery series which also included "Columbo", "McMillian and Wife" & "McCloud".
  13. I was born the same year, though I think we didn't get a TV until maybe 1955, because I remember my excitement when we got it (I think it was a Muntz TV). As for the McGuire sisters, my aunt lived on the next block from gangster Sam Giancana who was "dating" Phyllis McGuire. As kids we would walk by his house (and Tony Acardo's) hoping to see a shootout. the bar that was Giancana's hangout was on my paper route.
  14. I saw this morning the first episode of the "Jack Benny Show" from 1950 on Z Living.
  15. Also, in advertising, "free" is the magic word.
  16. Z Living has changed its programming for the new year. Their schedule is rather irregular, but the seem to be now showing "Route 66", "Jack Benny Show", "My Little Margie", "MST3000,", "Ozzie and Harriet", "Hawkeye"? (lee Horsely), "The Saint", "The Lucy Show", "Greatest American Hero", and who knows what else. Z Living is the most disorganized retro channel, so even if they say they are running something, it may not show up or disappear after a few weeks.
  17. They finally ran a Bret episode, but one from season 2. I don't understand why after running the final episode they just don't start from season one, episode one.
  18. He also impersonates Col Tacitus Mosely effectively. Jeff Corey, who played Mosely, was a well-known actor and acting teacher, who had been blacklisted for most of the 1950s.
  19. Actually it was "The Night of the Underground Terror", a very bizarre complicated plot. West's trousers don't survive this episode. Featuring ubiquitous guest star Nehemiah Persoff (who appeared in 3 episodes). Persoff appeared on most series , usually a villain, in most 60s and 70s shows.
  20. "Dancing on the Edge: A Journey of Living, Loving, and Tumbling through Hollywood" by Russ Tamblyn ISBN: 9798212273312 A bold memoir of an extraordinary, singular life lived by one of the world’s most beloved and acclaimed figures: Russ Tamblyn. With more than eighty years as a celebrated artist and actor under his belt, Russ Tamblyn has earned a cherished name among cinephiles and pop culture fans alike, working with such legendary directors as Robert Wise, David Lynch, and Quentin Tarantino. He tumbled through his acclaimed starring role in the original West Side Story as an actor and acrobatic dancer, taught Elvis Presley some signature dance moves, and became an unlikely visionary in the counterculture movement of the ’60s alongside peers and friends Ed Ruscha and Dennis Hopper. Russ deftly guides readers through his star-studded life and his search for a deeper, more connected existence: attending school with Elizabeth Taylor, earning an Academy Award nomination for Peyton Place, dropping out of Hollywood at the height of his career to become a fine artist in Topanga Canyon, and forging a lifelong friendship with Neil Young. He shares the painful breakup of a twenty-year marriage and the joy of finding true love and inspiration as a husband, father, and mentor in his own right. Perfect for old and new fans alike, Dancing on the Edge is an intimate and powerful story about the singular life of one of our most gifted storytellers, artists, and stars of the silver screen.
  21. I was listening to "Fairytale of New York" my favorite Christmas song and thinking how sad that both Shane and Kristy are gone. Makes the song even more poignant.
  22. R.I.P. Tommy Smothers https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/27/arts/television/tom-smothers-dead.html Maybe some retro channel will run some episodes of the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. I still remember when CBS kicked them off the air.
  23. Christmas is over...Now it's back to Medicare and Lawyers!!
