I was thinking if TV was widely available in the 1930s they would have seen ads like people dancing and singing: "If you're sick and you be illin'/just a prescription you'll be fillin'/to take some penicillin/and soon you'll be chillin'".

TCM changed their schedules and I really dislike the new ones. Here's another source for schedules: http://www.escapepress.com/tcmsched/tcm_overview.html They need Thelma Ritter day!

One of my favorites was "The Challenge" (1970) with Darren McGavin and Mako fighting WWIII on a Pacific island.

Cable Channel Binge TV is now showing like 13 hours of "Ozzie and Harriet" (the original show about nothing) on Thursdays. They started with season one yesterday. -
Funnily, back in 1948, when the movie studios owned movie theaters, a law suit brought about the Paramount Decree that prevented film production companies from owning exhibition companies. But now we are back to production companies owning the exhibition companies.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage

Basically it's: everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it. -
I don't think I saw that one, having been disappointed by the ones before. The description doesn't really sound like it, they just changed how they got their powers.

Although I don't think it will happen, I wish the FF film would treat the story more as science fiction than superhero. I think that was the problem with all the earlier ones.
-
I like the ad with Al Roker giving a bad weather forecast for the beach so he can have it all to himself.

It seemed to recreate the pace of novels from that era. Saw it when it first came out. I always liked Barry Lyndon, but I know many people dislike it. I really liked 2001. It was one of the first scifi movies that recreated on the screen the images I had in my head when reading the books (Stars Wars did the same)

Too bad they didn't use Count Manzeppi in additional episodes. He's no Dr Loveless, but Victor Buono makes him an interesting villain. But WWW didn't seem to like recurring villains (other than Dr Loveless). -

Yep. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zatoichi There are 17 Zatoichi movies (my favorite is "Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo") and 100 episodes of the Zatoichi TV show. There's a whole Zatoichi world out there. 😉

On Monday TCM will be showing a Tony Anthony spaghetti western, "A Stranger in Town" (1967), AKA "A Dollar Between the Teeth"). Hopefully someday they'll show Anthony's "Blindman", co-starring Ringo Starr. about a blind gunfighter, based on the Japanese blind masseur swordsman gambler series "Zatoichi".

From Under the Truck: A Memoir Josh Brolin ISBN: 9780063382183 From Josh Brolin, a unique and decidedly un-celebrity memoir, by turns affecting, funny, uncanny, and unforgettable. Weaving a latticework of different strands, moving back and forth through time, Josh Brolin captures a life marked by curiosity, pain, devotion, kindness, humor. He recounts an unconventional childhood far from Hollywood. Raised on a ranch in Paso Robles, California, he was surrounded as a child by the wolves, cougars, and other wild animals gathered by his fearless and explosive mother, Jane Agee Brolin. Her tragic, early death haunts this book, and the force of her unforgettable personality is felt throughout. Brolin also brings to life his career in the film industry—from his breakout role in The Goonies to the set of No Country for Old Men—and the professional and personal ups and downs in between and since. With unflinching honesty but also great humor, he shares insights into relationships, addiction, love, and fatherhood, while letting the white space in between words speak for itself. Grappling with the mysteries of life and death in a way that will catch readers by surprise, From Under the Truck is an audacious and riveting memoir from a born writer.
