  1. A good group of films tonight in TCM's 1969 theme on Tues. "Medium Cool" is a somewhat forgotten film, very evocative of its time, shot during the Chicago Convention police riot. "The Wild Bunch," of course (better than "Butch Cassidy"). "Fellini's Satyricon" is an oddball film, but I sort of like it. Worth watching at least once. Unfortunately they showed "Butch Cassidy" less than a month ago, I believe (if they knew they were playing it in this series, why show it so soon before? It just bugs me.) Never seen "Angel, Angel, Down We Go."
  2. We had a library question about ducks mating and when we called the local zoo for info (pre-Internet days) the person there went on and on angrily about the horrors of duck mating practices. We had to tone it down for the patron.
  3. I've forgotten how dark most of the "Route 66" episodes were, esp. considering the time they were aired. I'm enjoying rewatching them.
  4. You should have said "Luckily you are not familiar with the episode of MBFFL..." :)
  5. The worst are the people filmed in malls for "As Shown on TV" ads who are saying a product they've just seen two seconds before changed their lives. How stupid do they think we are? (probably pretty stupid since this crap sells).
  6. I agree, they are kids and probably don't have much say in what ads they are in and what they are supposed to say and do, and besides they probably don't know any better, unlike the adults in ads.
  7. I assume Whitney Way Thore "American television personality best known for her appearances on the television show My Big Fat Fabulous Life," Another person like Busy Philipp and Gigi Hadid I'm more than happy not knowing about. I would think twice under any circumstances.
  8. If they are going to have big lips it should at least be a Rolling Stones song.
  9. FETV is now showing "Route 66," one of the best written shows of that era. You can find FETV's schedule here: https://fetv.tv/schedule/
  10. TCM Alert: TCM will be playing "The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T" on Wednesday, June 12 @ 11:45 AM (ET). Dr. Seuss' surrealistic musical fantasy about an evil piano teacher. Worth watching if you've never seen it.
  11. We lived on a busy street. That's the difference. :)
  12. The only thing I think about that ad is that its a fantasy of some people's idea of a perfect Mom-a Mom who will put aside everything to spend the day playing with her kid. I doubt there are many real Moms who would actually do it. (And frankly, as a kid, I never wanted adults involved in anything I was doing for fun because they basically wrung all the enjoyment out of an activity. ...And usually things would end up with a lot of yelling and threats of "the strap." If I had asked my Mom to do anything like the ad she would have told me to "go play in the street.")
  13. Was Mika there when he said it. That seems to make the difference.
  14. 'Punky Brewster' TV sequel in the works starring Soleil Moon Frye. "The new take will see Frye's Punky now a single mother of three as she attempts to get her life back on track when she meets a girl who reminds her of her younger self." Just what we've been waiting for. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/punky-brewster-tv-sequel-works-1215523
  15. At least he could usually remember his lines, unlike a lot of the rest of the cast (I'm looking at you Elizabeth and Julia).
  16. Claus von Bulow, who murdered his wife so he could presumably marry Alexandra Isles (Victoria Winters)-she gave him an ultimatum about divorcing his wife-and still inherit his wife's money, has died.
  17. In the book I believe he dies of a "fever". I also think in the book that they discuss the cholera epidemics plaguing Paris. But I think you're right that Marius' treatment of him and being estranged from Cosette is a factor in his death.
  18. I've said before that I doubt she would have trouble getting dates; keeping them is another matter. None of the actors in the online dating ads would have the least problem getting dates. They should have ugly people talking about getting dates, it would be better evidence that the service worked.
  19. The odd thing about Busy Philipps is that besides that ad she also. has a pro-choice PSA. Both are shot the same way with just a headshot, so you can't tell at first which spot it is. This is besides the point, I have no idea who she is.
