  1. The reason the apparently main villain didn't appear much (funnily, he looked a lot like Artemus in disguise) was that the actor Theo Marcuse was killed in an auto accident while the episode was being filmed. I thought it was interesting that Artemus keeps a scrapbook of all his disguises. Richard Anderson was a perennial guest star. I wonder if he didn't want to star in his own series? He was a regular on only one season of Perry Mason and, of course, the 6 Million Dollar Man.

  3. So H&I showed the final "Maverick" episode today. So are they starting over with S1 E!? Nope, they are showing a S! Bart episode> Have they lost all the James Garner Bret episodes?
  4. Watch the 1970 movie "Waterloo" for a much better look at the battle
  5. Obviously I didn't care enough to think about it.
  6. This is sort of like my problem with the ASPCA ads. The implication that they are saving the lives of all those rescued animals, when in fact, at least some of them are likely going to be put to sleep.
  7. It's very sad, but it's real life. If they implied that all the children they treat survive it would be worse, giving false hope. I don't like seeing it, but it's they way things really are.
  8. R.I.P., Ryan O'Neal https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/ryan-oneal-dead-love-story-paper-moon-1235730468 I didn't think he was that old. He always seemed younger than his actual age.
  9. Her character was really annoying. She was better on "Petticoat Junction". The story seemed a bit like a comment on Truman vs MacArthur.
  10. It took about a week for the on-screen guide to list the channels as unavailable when we had this issue.
  11. Although the depiction of Napoleon's and Josephine's relationship is largely ahistorical, its sort of odd that his supposed obsession with his wife is portrayed as largely negative. while her affairs with other men is treated as normal. If this was reversed, I doubt it would be portrayed that way.
  12. The “Big Bang Theory” prequel series is set to return on Feb. 15, with the one-hour series finale set to air on May 16. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/young-sheldon-end-season-7-230000415.html
  13. Checking, they are running "Alias Smith & Jones" late nights Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. I guess its better than nothing. We lost the cable version of local channel WGN (an over-the-air station) for more than a month over one of these pricing disputes.
  14. With Love, Mommie Dearest: The Making of an Unintentional Camp Classic A. Ashley Hoff ISBN: 9781641607681 When she died in 1977, Joan Crawford was remembered as an icon of Hollywood's Golden Age—until publication the following year of her daughter’s memoir, Mommie Dearest. Christina Crawford’s book was an immediate bestseller, addressing the infrequently discussed topic of child abuse. When Paramount Pictures released the film, starring Faye Dunaway as Crawford, it was critically panned, and remains one of the most legendary critical bombs in film history. The lavish, big-screen adaptation drew unexpected laughter in the scenes depicting life in the Crawford household. Rarely have such good intentions been met with such ridicule. Despite this, the movie was a commercial success and remains, four decades later, immensely popular. With Love, Mommie Dearest details the writing and selling of Christina's book and the aftermath of its publication, as well as the filming of the motion picture, whose backstage drama almost surpassed what was viewed onscreen in the film. Based on new interviews with people connected to the book and the film, Hollywood historian A. Ashley Hoff explores the phenomenon, the camp, and the very real social issues addressed by the book and film.
  15. Columbo: Make Me a Perfect Murder (Spin-Offs) Amelie Hastie ISBN: 9781478025450 For decades, generations of television fans have been enraptured by Lt. Columbo, played by Peter Falk, as he unravels clues to catch killers who believe they are above the law. In her investigation of the 1970s series cocreated by Richard Levinson and William Link, Amelie Hastie explores television history through an emphasis on issues of stardom, authorship, and its interconnections with classical and New Hollywood cinema. Through close textual analysis, attentive to issues of class relations and connections to other work by Falk as well as Levinson and Link, Columbo: Make Me a Perfect Murder sees American television as an intertextual system, from its origins as a commercial broadcast medium to its iterations within contemporary streaming platforms. Ultimately, Hastie argues, in the titular detective’s constant state of learning about cultural trends and media forms, Columbo offers viewers the opportunity to learn with him and, through his tutelage, to become detectives of television itself. _____________________
  16. One of the "joys" of watching the retro channels is seeing actors who later became famous for other things. The best show for this was "Naked City". Every young actor who was trying to break into show biz in New York showed up on the show.
  17. What we need is Medicare Martha doing a Xmas ad. Not really.
  18. So, no black & white episodes? If people aren't hooked and want to see more of WWW by now, it's a lost cause.
  19. Looks like INSP will be running "Alias Smith and Jones" overnight on Saturdays.
  20. At the sick bed of Cúchulainn we'll kneel and say a prayer But the ghosts are rattling at the door and the devil's in the chair, whoa!
