There's an article about Damian Lillard in The Athletic. He's had a tough year personally. Here's a run-down.
  2. It's awesome that Fenna already has her doggie bed and crate. I wonder if Derick had dogs growing up.
  3. She's not doing anything mysterious. That's just the way she is. One thing I know she does is that since she's a hypochondriac she likes to post nonstop about her supposed ailments, and she probably doesn't want me seeing that. Because I know what illnesses she actually has and which ones she doesn't.
  4. NYT has an article about Glenn Burke, first openly gay MLB player. Have tissues ready.
  5. Ijust downloaded the biography of Glenn Burke, the first openly gay MLB player. NYT has a great article about him.
  6. Meh those pictures depress me. Four years into the marriage Joy and Austin are as insular, rigid, and incurious as ever.
  7. Where are Joy's bangs? Or were these professional pix they did before the bangs?
  8. Doggie vloggers can get a lot of money. I'm not sure Jill's audience is that into dogs but I follow several doggie vloggers.
  9. Omg. I must be doing something wrong. Both my sister and my dad are now on FB. My sister blocked me. My dad denied my friend request. I'm not estranged from either of them. My sister just said "Social media is something I just don't want you to see." My dad's explanation was even more absurd: he only wants to use Facebook to talk about blackjack card counting strategies and to promote the book he wrote on blackjack. He is posting FB stories and joining blackjack discussion groups but won't accept my friend request. What gives?
  10. Thank god that dog is an inside dog, unlike poor Brielle. And ... cute dog. I have a special affection for GSD;s as this adorable GSD is the main bomb-sniffer at the Met Opera. This dog recognizes me and always snuggles when I say hi. So cute.
  11. I think he was. He seemed to be enjoying the family life. Him and Scarlett were sexually compatible. Also, the sudden loss of a child wrecks marriages. Even marriages on much surer footing than Scarlett and Rhett. For instance during the Civil War, Abraham and Mary Lincoln lost their son Willie. The loss put a huge strain on their marriage. Mary was never all there mentally afterwards. Lincoln became withdrawn and despondent and buried himself even deeper into work. Rhett at the end of the book is at his absolute worst, mentally. I just don't think he'll stay there forever.
  12. My boss at work sends about 2 dozen emails a day. Most are forwarded news articles or invitations to workshops. A few are actually important. He sends these emails at all hours of the night. But on the rare occasion an email contains important information he'll just casually say "Oh I sent an email about it three weeks ago." Which involves an endless search for all the emails I might have deleted from him because really, it's one email that's important for 100 that are just forwarded articles.
  13. I feel like Mia got stuck in that gamine persona somewhere early in life and stuck to it. I wonder if her first serious relationship being a man so much older (Frank Sinatra) and her second husband also being much older (Andre Previn) AND her third partner being a famous director made her think her spacey, girlish mannerisms were somehow cute.
  14. The house had 8 kids (counting out SoonYi), a very absent mother and ... Woody. Yeah, I think three baby-sitters were necessary. I felt sorry for Mia's adopted kids. I thought all the home videos of them made them look sad and tired.
  15. Well Scarlett had just been really bitchy to Rhett. They were having great sex and all of a sudden he's friend-zoned in their marriage. I always thought he was being spiteful and maybe trying to make her jealous. I'm sure Rhett probably turned to Belle Watling for some comforting but their relationship was at most a friends with benefits thing. Also a woman of Belle's occupation knew how to prevent pregnancies. Her brothel women would know how too.

    The NBA

More mid-season coaching turnover: the Hawks just fired Lloyd Pierce.
  17. I wouldn't say the book version of their relationship is much different. Rhett feels a fondness for Belle and all that but he still loved Scarlett in a romantic way and doesn't feel the same way about Belle.
  18. One example of Mia's lax/neglectful parenting making her kids easy targets was her encouraging SoonYi to go to Knicks games with Woody. It kind of sounded like SoonYi was a bit of a handful and Mia just wanted SoonYi out of her hair. Also: why couldn't Mia take SoonYi herself to Knicks games?
  19. Rhetts relationship with Belle seems to be more of a friendship based on the fact that they have a child together. He didn't love Belle or want to be with her.
  20. SoonYi's biological mother was a sex worker who abandoned SoonYi. When they put SoonYi in an orphanage she had been living on the streets after being abandoned by her mother. It's really appalling that Mia Farrow was allowed to adopt so many special-needs kids and there seems to have little vetting about whether she could give these kids the attention and care they needed.
  21. It;s really gross. Also -- can't help but notice. Mia's most visible defenders in the movie are her white children. Her children of different races are more in the background.
  22. Its also icky how after he got all that acclaim for the non-creepy Annie Hall he immediately moves into creepy territory with Manhattan. I'll also say that the Woody tapes show a very different personality from the neurotic hypochrondriac he played in the movies. They always say comedians aren't funny in real life and this was an example.
  23. I'm starting to think Allen thought Farrow was an easy mark. She was talented but not THAT talented. She had a bunch of kids in varying degrees of neglect. She didn't have much of a career besides being in his movies. I'm not defending Mia at all -- I think she was probably a shit mother. But very often children of shit mothers are easier targets.
  24. I was thinking "I hope the neighbor doesn't follow her on IG." But then again I feel like SM is full of performative outrage nowadays.
