I keep reading rumors that Side Show will go into whatever theatre Bullets is in, so it's not long for this world. We'll see... I guess I shouldn't mention how much I paid for tickets when I first started seeing shows in NY :-) As a point of reference, my first Broadway show was Chicago with the original cast. The next day I saw The Wiz and A Chorus Line. We have tickets to Lady Day and Violet. I've read good things about Heathers, but doubt we'll see it. Saw If/Then here in DC and didn't think much of it. And...I worked that stage door at one of the road houses here for decades. It amazes (and appalls) me that "stagedoor" has become a verb... oy

Did I just see that the Fox slogan for the postseason is "October writes itself"?? Good grief...that's awful.

I was at the O's/Nats rained-out game Tuesday. They were showing the Braves/Mets on the JumboTron and I couldn't take my eyes off of that hair... spectacular.

Bob Uecker and Bob Costas calling the Brewers/Cards game on MLB Network. Quite entertaining!

That looks like lots of fun! Now I can't wait to watch it with sound :-) I'm putting it on my list for January.

I echo this sentiment. I've also never seen one second of a Harry Potter movie, but went to see "How to Succeed" because I love the show...and totally fell in love with Radcliffe!! He may not be the best singer/dancer out there, but he was obviously having the time of his life, and therefore, so was I. I'm so sorry "Cripple" is closing before I get there... I really hope he does more theatre in NY.

Okay, I know you all have been on the edges of your seats to hear what I thought of Side Show :-) I really wish I wrote better... I loved the show. I didn't see the original and had heard none of the music. I was totally engaged from the start to the finish. Wonderful performances, and while I probably won't buy the cast album, I did like the music. Sets, lighting and costumes were incredible (it's all done with magnets...). After reading a bit about the original cast, I kinda wish I'd seen Norm Lewis do Jake, but David St Louis was quite good. Erin Davie and Emily Padgett worked so well together they seemed like sisters. All that said, the house wasn't nearly full (and I was there because I got a great discount). I hear talk of this transferring to NY, but I don't see how it would make sense. Still, I hope it does. It's wonderful. And... I'm going up to NY at the end of the month - yay! Got tickets for Lady Day, Pippin and Patti Lupone at 54Below. Thinking of Violet for the other show slot we have. I'll decide closer to the time... Cannot wait!!!

Going to the Kennedy Center today to see "Side Show." I know nothing about it - well, I do know it's about conjoined twins - so I'm looking forward to seeing something totally new to me. The production got great reviews and there's talk of a transfer to Broadway, but since the last 2 K-C revivals to transfer didn't do very well, who knows...

Just dropping in to plug the showing of "1776" on Friday at 1:30 (PM, not AM - thank goodness!) on TCM. One of the best stage to screen adaptations ever. Love that most of the original Broadway cast is in it. Love the music. Love, love, love William Daniels!!

I know this is only one page, and I did look, but I must preface this by saying I really hope I didn't post this already (since I've posted it in a few places since it was published) http://awfulannouncing.com/2014/your-mlb-local-tv-announcer-rankings.html My team is the O's and our guys got ranked pretty well (yay!), but I'm also in the Nats broadcast zone. And while I loooooove Charlie and Dave on the radio, as this piece states "nobody likes Bob Carpenter". And hardly anyone like FP Santangelo. Yet here he is on the Fox broadcast with .... Kenny (?) ... and he's absolutely cringeworthy. I thought during the rain delay earlier we'd have some relief, but they went to Saux-Yanks with Joe Buck. A lose/lose for everyone. I cannot express how awful the TV team here in DC is. Oy...

SNL Outside Projects: From Animal House to Wayne's World

Jenny was also on Fresh Air on NPR today. Didn't get to listen to it, but I will http://www.npr.org/programs/fresh-air/ -
The TV Guide cover for the Lesley Ann Warren Cinderella was the first "poster"-ish thing I ever hung up in my room, so that version holds a special place in my heart. Which is why I don't really want to watch it again. I'm afraid I won't love it anymore. I did see the Broadway show right after it opened a couple years ago. Sets and costumes were fabulous. Rinaldo, I agree wholeheartedly about the onstage gown transformations! However, I wasn't ever totally engaged with the show. Enjoyed it, and forgot it...

I was so happy that game was the free game of the day on MLB TV. Nice diversion from work!

Thank you so much aradia22 for starting this thread!! I've just finished my evening perusal at the BroadwayWorld.com forums. And while I love some bitchy theatre talk, those people are almost too bitchy for me. I get info there, but don't participate much because I'm too afraid someone will yell at me. And I'm too old to be worried about that!! That said... I'm totally unprepared tonight to give any opinions that will make sense. Haven't seen anything this season yet, but hoping to make a trip up next month. I really wanted to go to the Delacorte last night for the Public Theatre Gala but didn't have the ginormous amount of money they wanted for tickets. Then, after my husband made his decision to do a one day trip (today) instead of going up yesterday, I read there would be a standby line for free tickets last night...and the actual tickets to buy were much cheaper. Ah well...timing... Anyway, I'll be back. Thanks for starting this!!

I'd say yes. It was one of those shows that I thought would be really bad, but found that, while it's kinda silly, it's still really fun. So, this didn't help, did it :-) -
Wasted Talent: Shows That Never Lived Up To Their Potential
ebk57 replied to galax-arena's topic in TV Show-Related Talk
I was reading through to see if anyone mentioned Smash. I was so looking forward to the show, being a theatre fanatic, but the blindness to the lack of any talent in Ms McPhee sent the whole thing into a tailspin. Terribly disappointing. And I hadn't thought of it until you mentioned it, but I feel the same way about Boardwalk Empire. Loved the first couple of seasons, but then the whole thing went off the rails. Too bad. -
My sentiments exactly (although I have been to San Diego - beautiful city). Thanks for saying it much better than I could.

Guilty Pleasures: Songs You're Ashamed Of Having On Your MP3 Player
ebk57 replied to PrincessEnnui's topic in Music
Holy crap, I used to love this song with I was a youngin'... and I'd forgotten all about it! I will now have to go and find it immediately. Thanks...I think. And no one should ever be embarrassed about loving Led Zeppelin. Or Barry Manilow. -
Okay, that just made me laugh out loud.
-
I think it was in PE when I was a youngin'... but since it was 50 years ago, I don't want to swear to you where exactly it was played. All I do know is that as soon as I heard the commercial for the first time a week or so ago, I couldn't stop smiling.
-
I don't have any idea if it was a "hit", but it was played incessantly in my elementary school so we'd all get up off our large butts and move around. And I apologize if I seem a bit obsessed about giving Robert Preston due credit, but, well, I'm a bit obsessed about it...
-
Here's the full number If you go to YouTube, Mr. Preston is credited both on this video and the commercial video. This is a quote from Wiki -which must mean it's true... :-) (but it is!) "In 1961, Preston was asked to make a recording as part of a program by the President's Council on Physical Fitness to get schoolchildren to do more daily exercise. The song, "Chicken Fat", which was written and composed by Meredith Willson and performed by Preston with full orchestral accompaniment, was distributed to schools across the nation and played for students in calisthenics every morning. The song later became a surprise novelty hit and part of many baby-boomers' childhood memories."

Totally sure. I grew up with that song throughout elementary school. And, just to make sure, I just googled it (since I often don't trust my "totally sure" memories)
