  1. I have been watching this show and find it interesting to watch people who have been on reality shows be on a show with folks who really knew them from way back. Even seeing Mama Joyce just being around folks and not acting a fool was a nice change of pace. I like their music and would go see them live. I don't think any of them have done much as recording artists outside of this group so they all need each other. The difference is that Kandi has other successful ventures so she is okay if her own music isn't popping. As for the shade, it seems that there is a bit of "Kandi is the baby" when they communicate. Rocky was actually telling Tocha what she needed to hear but I am not totally sure if she was listening. I know they have hashed things out enough to tour but, as a child of the '90s, I am still enjoying this show.
  2. That plan had so many holes in it it's no wonder there was blood all over the place. The plan was a mess from the moment Laurel thought she needed to "do it for Wes". And it got worse every time someone new got roped in. I am ready for the back stretch because there are so many questions still floating around waiting for answers.
  3. I enjoyed this episode as well. I forgot that Wendy Raquel Robinson was Dina's friend/co-worker. That was funny that she had the picture with the Postmaster General and a story for every day Dina was around. The Governor trying to use Courtney for his re-election was politics as usual. Also, at first I didn't understand how Courtney made such a song as I thought it was actually worse than it was. But once his friends were talking about it, it made sense that whomever dug up the song was trying to use it to incite those already scared of the "rapping Mayor". Since he didn't apologize, I do wonder how the Mayor will truly navigate politics to bring about needed changes in his city. That resource center that was never coming is truly the mark of a city that has left its residents behind.
  4. I watched but this was not a fave. I know Yvette can sing but they could have found a better way to showcase that. I basically found nothing funny and was almost surprised that Amber took Courtney back. At 28, I am going to need Courtney and friends to adult soon, I am so tired of man babies. But I will continue to watch because I generally like the cast.
  5. Well, I am still in because I like the cast. Watching Courtney trying to figure out how to be an adult by being the mayor is fine with me. This is also one of the few comedies that actually makes me laugh and not just smile. While I wasn't as thrilled with this episode, it does make sense that folks are wondering why they voted for a struggling rapper who knew nothing about politics or the political system.
  6. But none of what you wrote explains why she would want to go down for his drug dealing. Even when she was upset with him, she didn't tell him to stop selling drugs. She was upset that by stashing the drugs in her room, he was willing for her to take the fall (ride or die status) and she was letting him know that she was not interested in playing that position. Wanting to use drugs or even hang with a future kingpin does not mean she wants to do time for something she actually did not do.
  7. I am not sure I understand this. Because she was happy to see her next-door neighbor, crush was alive and well meant she was okay with him setting her up to take a fall?? I admit that I am not blasé about drug dealing so I didn't see a problem to her reaction to Franklin. Also, I agree with her telling him that he can't see past what's in that bag. He is rather determined to become a kingpin no matter how much trouble he brings to the people around him.
  8. Franklin bringing trouble to his mother's door is one of the main reasons he annoys me. It reminds me why folks don't let non-spouse adults live in their house. I was going to go on a spiel about how he has worked so hard to take the easy route by selling drugs but I am exhausted just watching Franklin get into sticky situation after sticky situation. He walks around like a mark and thinks he runs every place he enters. Additionally, the CIA guy annoys me and the Mexicans borderline bore me. I guess, I continue to watch because I have been watching from the beginning. However, seeing a drama, in part, about the proliferation of hardcore drugs into majority black communities is probably not something I need at this time.
  9. It seems Lil Rel plays Joey, Tessa Thompson (from movies Creed and Dear White People) plays Monica and Lakeith Stanfield (from Get Out and Atlanta) plays Chandler. As for this show, I watched to the end. It does seem like Jerrod has checked out this season. I am not sure what was going on behind the scenes but I can see him moving towards a Netflix or HBO for his next projects. Overall, I enjoyed the show when it started, thought season 2 was a bit wonky and felt season 3 had some gems. I still enjoyed the work of Loretta Devine and David Alan Grier. I look forward to seeing the cast in future roles.
  10. When I saw the trailer, I knew I had to see this movie in the first weekend. This was so much fun. I am such a fan of Regina Hall and Queen, Jada and Larenz took me back to the great work of the '90s. I have seen Tiffany Haddish in a couple of TV series so I am glad she is getting all of this love and attention from this movie. As for the movie, it was definitely laugh out loud funny in my theater. I was so invested in the story from their weekend together to why they hadn't seen each other in years and why Sasha was struggling. The dance-off and fight in the club were so awesome. Kofi Siribae was every bit of the tasty young chocolate that he is supposed to be. Also, seeing all of the cameos from last year's Essence Fest was fun as well. I always say that I want to attend one year and this 2 hour commercial has me strongly considering it. Lastly, I have never requested a sequel but when this movie ended, I immediately wanted more. This definitely needs to have a sequel or two.
  11. Article about those who will be recurring on Queen Sugar season 2. We've already seen Alimi Ballard and a bit of Margot Bingham. http://deadline.com/2017/05/queen-sugar-sharon-lawrence-alimi-ballard-margot-bingham-recur-season-2-1202101797/
  12. I am going to assume that no one posted the press release about who is guest appearing in Season 2. If people want to know who will be playing Charley's mother, the press release will be linked in the media thread. I don't fully remember all of my comments about this particular episode but RA still annoys me the most because it seems like his actions get the least reprimand. Charley gets called out the most and Nova occasionally but I rarely see anyone calling RA out without someone/something justify his actions later. Another thing I have been wondering this season is, why is Micah in school (kinda) but not Blue? Or did I miss where Blue is going to school as well?!?!
  13. I knew this would be a backdoor pilot when I read the description so the episode didn't catch me off-guard. However, I never really thought much of Zoey's character on this show so it seems like a bit of a stretch to see her as the lead of another series. While this may be modeled as the 21st century, west coast version of A Different World, it gave me heavy Dear White People and I have only seen the movie version. The college president and dean seem like Stevens and his merry band of idiots. Charlie continues to flip between being good at his job and not even belonging there. It is not far off that Charlie, a marketing executive at a prominent firm, would be an adjunct professor at a local university. But of course, this being Black-ish, Charlie has to teach a ridiculous class at the most ridiculous time. As for the trio of students, I am not surprised by the way the young guy was acting towards Zoey. If the show goes forth, I believe he will walk back some of his opinion of Zoey. Plus, he seems to be a young person who just learned about some Black history and now wants to act like he's been "woke" all his life. Lastly, I generally like Trevor Jackson so I am okay with him here.
  14. I am not definitely sure why but I do know they are still filming this season so that has to have some affect on why they need the break. Overall, I am enjoying season 2 but I do agree with those that wonder why Grace doesn't move out of her parents' home. I guess she is so focused on trying to catch Mack that she took the quickest job and housing available.
  15. In fairness to his company, the name is "See/Rescue Streamer". As for other parts of this episode, the whole "butt" pitch was rather problematic. Beyond the stupid apparel and how either of the couple looked, the woman proclaiming herself as a "booty queen" and the sharks debating on whether big butts were "in" or not had my eyes almost roll out of socket. And to top it off, Daymond (of all sharks) decided to team up with the "booty queen".
  16. This latest episode where Ashe and Preston finally get to investigate both cases above board was slightly satisfying. Seeing someone trying to murder Cory made sense because I was wondering when the guys after him would figure out where he was staying. I am anxious to see how Joey's and Jesse's killings actually relate. Seeing Joey's younger brother have a "good" first day at his new school was a nice touch in a grim situation. I wonder if we will see more of him at this new school. Also, I wonder if we will see more about the private prison that promises to bring jobs. I've known about the problems with private prisons but never followed any story in detail. The requirement that the prisons maintain a certain occupancy level is beyond disgusting. Lastly, one statement that stuck out to me was made by Beck after his house had been vandalized and he was talking to his sheriff. He mentioned that had he come out while the guy was vandalizing his house, he would have shot him like any other deputy in their department. That was a little off to me. Since I do not own a gun, my first instinct to various criminal behavior is not to shot. I would hope that an officer who has been trained would be able to de-escalate a spray-painting criminal without shooting to kill (I assume he meant a deadly shot and not just one to the legs). Overall, I understand that would be a tense situation but I thought people who owned guns had a heightened responsibility. Anyway, I will end here but that statement just made me pause.
  17. I think that is in reference to the struggling businesses that were seeking help during this episode and not Juli. I have no other comments on Juli winning. On another note, I feel like I have seen Karyn's business before but I don't recall from where. The raw vegan restaurant has been featured on some show in the past.
  18. I am not surprised that Kenya and Anthony would be defending this (especially since it was probably one of their ideas). Though I didn't know about the story posted above, both Kenya and Anthony give me "fboy" teas and Brown fits right in. I can't really explain it but the character Dre is basically an fboy as well. Basically, I watch the show despite his character.
  19. I watch this whole season and would probably watch another because I am a fan of Anika Noni Rose and like to see her work. However, some of the resolutions to storylines felt limp. There was the episode where they made it seem like I cared about who killed Chanel. Then you have this finale where Noni lies and claims she came for the Drum Major in defense of Ebony, even though we saw that she wasn't thinking about coming for Drum Major No Life (I mean, a fifth year to be DM for a second time?!?!) until he said he was coming for her. Noni annoys me so and I hope they don't try to make it seem like she's not as selfish and self-centered as she has displayed all Season 1. Dr. Fletcher should have put a stop to that stalker grad student a long time ago. I mean, he already made her lose one job. This dude is crazy and I see his nutty behind becoming more trouble next season. Adult Brit Brat shows up on the season finale to share her cookies with Cedric. Yeah, that was a random, and possibly unnecessary, storyline. I would have rather seen Blue Blood or figured out what Ebony is planning to do with her life after she rehabs. As for Terrence offing himself, I, too, thought it was Drum Major and when they showed Terrence, I was confused. I wonder what Tiesha said to the coach and what kind of relationship she really had with Terrence.
  20. I am watching though I just found out about this forum. Let me see what I remember about this episode: First, the rape storyline is getting worrisome. I know it has to end but I'm not sure if I will like its ending. Cedric seems to think he is supposed to be in trouble and is surprised that he is a young black male enrolled in a university. I hope he gets it together because I think his friendship with Blue Blood is a classic college roomie/lifelong friendship in the making. Cecil survives that fall and reveals to his sister his cancer diagnosis. It is nice that Cecil and his sister are bonding. However, I am concerned that she seems to be reuniting with her immediate family members when they are terminally ill. Jason Pitts and Eva are an interesting pairing, especially seeing that the immediate past President seems to have been in some shady business. The threesome experiment gone wrong coupled with that half-baked assignment was no surprise. I guess we should be glad we got some classroom action since the students are usually in their dorms or with the football team or band.
  21. As Bow began to have siblings pop up, it did get me to think of how this is a ripe opportunity to bring on all the Black-Jewish biracial actors. The Smolletts seem to already have work but Maya and Lenny have come to mind as well. I hadn't remembered Bow mentioning her siblings in the past but I look forward to seeing more.
  22. I will continue watching. I like Gina Prince-Bythewood and so many members of the cast. Plus, I like that it will cover the whole sheriff department and not just this one case. Even though I see this story play out in real life, I am willing to give this show a chance. Right now, it is so many characters that I am not sure who anyone is besides Sanaa Lathan, Stephen James and Mack Wilds. I know I saw Aisha Hinds make an appearance and many others whose names I don't know as well.
  23. While I did not finish season 2 and found season 1 to be a bit of a chore, due to the subject matter, I am in for season 3. Even though there are many moving parts, I did appreciate Sandra Oh's character mentioning the fact that it is now a "heroin crisis" as compared to a "crack epidemic". I noticed this some years back but it seems to have picked up some steam in the past year or so. The storyline that has my attention the most is the migrant workers. Nothing in particular but I like seeing this story explored.
  24. I feel like I heard the "half million over 3 years" line for the first time as well. It actually stuck out to me when he said it. As for this episode, I would have gone with one product for a kiosk but it might have been the candy or candles. The watches on that kiosk did tell the story quickly and seemed to catch people's attention. When Marcus kept saying "I want to send someone home" or something like that, I knew he wasn't sending anyone home. I thought Peilin was going to be sent home because I think Marcus really likes Erin. But as mentioned above, maybe because Erin was so bad, Marcus couldn't really justify sending anyone else, even though others were only marginally better. I was really surprised when they tried to make it seem like Buffie should go. While she isn't as great as she thinks she is, I think between the two tasks, she performed better than Erin. Overall, I don't really care for this show but I do enjoy CNBC shows so I will continue to watch. If it was canceled, I wouldn't be upset. However, if there was a season 2, I'd probably watch to see if it has gotten any better.
  25. I am not sure we were given hints. I think we were just told that neither daughter cared to see their father before he died. It is interesting that both were abused by him but Mavis only knows about the abuse she received. Mae really did figure out how to suppress her issues. Sad that Charity lost the one twin (though for show budget reasons, I can see why). Her storyline with her "confused" husband and music ministry co-workers should be interesting. Also, nice to see Kyle again. I don't remember the last time I saw T.C. Carson in something. Pastor Jidenna Skanks being the son of the man who died in the fire by Bishop seems about right. But we shall see how far he gets trying to use Jacob against his father. Creating another "megachurch" in the same town seems to be overreaching. But then it seems like he is trying to get the Calvary congregation instead of generally expanding the Triumph congregation. And I won't give my real life thoughts on Kirk Franklin. Lastly, Grace is exhausting but since Mac is out, I don't see her stopping any time soon. I wonder if we will see Noah hanging around her again. I would wonder about how Grace gets up there and preaches when I am not sure if she truly believes in the work of the church but this isn't my first time at this rodeo, so do you GiGi. Overall, I am in for season 2. Though I am late to join this show and the Wednesday 10 pm slot is already crowded, I enjoy this show and I really like the cast.
