I'm actually a bit surprised they kept it quiet for this long. Certainly the rumors around Josiah's sexuality and the constant "They don't know how babby is formed" jokes must have annoyed the Duggars a bit? They're probably the least popular couple on the show and it would have given them a sympathy boost back in September. Now, not so much.

I think the Seewald girls are happy they dodged a bullet there. If it hadn't been Duggars it could have been one of the higher up fundie families. Jessica Seewald would be on her 2nd kid by now rather than being a cop. I had some thoughts around females and jobs in this cult but I think I'm too exhausted to expand upon it. They have to luck into being born into a well off family (the Duggars) or marry into a well off family (Kendra, Lauren) in order to continue with their belief system. If they don't, they have to go out there and get jobs in the Big Bad Ungodly World. It's completely unsustainable. The Duggar daughters had a bit more freedom than others in choosing a spouse because Momma and Daddy Duggar (for now) can subsidize their lifestyles. So of course Jessa could marry Ben who was barely an adult and had no job. Put Jessa as a daughter of the Swansons or Caldwells and she probably has a lot less choice in if she marries and who she marries.

Joe & Kendra: Looking Forward To Side Hugs

Has everyone placed their bets on the first ad or SWIPE UP! ? I give it until March 7th. -
Caregiver's burn out is real. I hope there's a bunch of people around who can help you out. That's a lot to deal with. Take care of yourself. I'm at a crossroads. Teaching college students was supposed to be a temporary gig to pay the bills while I apply out for the job I want. It's sucking my soul and taking up all my time instead. My students failed their last assignment. It's obvious they're typing out their assignments on their phones at the last minute on the way to school. They're not attending class and then all of a sudden sending me angry (yet well written) emails when they do poorly. I just finished marking their midterms and half of them didn't finish the exam despite having a cheat sheet and knowing the general topics ahead of time. They had 2 hours. Most handed it in within a half hour. I'm at a loss for what to do. I'm following what has been done in previous years exactly because this isn't my forever career path. I feel like I'm being treated like a restaurant owner. They're paying for a service and therefore I should give them all As. I would have gone and taught dance classes instead if I wanted to be treated like a business owner. I'm not gaining any traction towards my career goals because I'm constantly putting out fires with this class. I thought that I could pick up evening classes a couple times a year for the rest of my life depending on how this class went because I loved teaching when I was a TA. I think I'm going to have to take the summer off and re-evaluate. I was going to teach again this summer but I think I'm going to turn it down. I need money but I can always figure that out later.

JD and Abbie: Captured Before the Rapture
PikaScrewChu replied to frenchtoast's topic in Counting On
So much this. I ended up staying in hostels when I went across Finland and it was upwards of €40 for a hostel bed in Helsinki some nights. It was cheaper to get hotels in the Baltic States for a week compared to some of the cities I went to in Finland. I will never be able to afford to go back. Pity because the flights to Helsinki can be super cheap. -
Joe & Kendra: Looking Forward To Side Hugs

Job is a Biblical figure to them and things didn't turn out so well for him. Why would they get something that shares the same name? 😉 The Duggars are very pious dontcha know.- 5.7k replies

Joe & Kendra: Looking Forward To Side Hugs

There's money to be made off social media! Kendra and Joe aren't making the babies fast enough to pay the bills. Yes, that's assuming you think babies are made just like Ralph Wiggum thinks babies are made. -
As The Lonely Island once sang... "It's okay when it's in a three-way, it's not gay when it's in a three-way"

I suspect Jackson will look like a little child for the rest of eternity so at least he's easier to tell apart from the rest. The Howlers are legitimately process of elimination. I wonder if Michelle just randomly says names until someone's head turns.
-
Jason fell in the orchestra pit. Jackson got lost in the airport. They all start to blend together.
-
My guess is she was actually a "tutor" but either wasn't getting paid or was getting paid under the table for her services. She's probably been told to stfu about the entire thing. Regardless they have Ben now to teach math!
-
Probably tutor to the Howlers and Lost Girls now that Laura is gone.

"World's Best Agent" is more apt. I'm sure they could have found better acts world wide, it's all about who had the best agent to get them on this show. Even the last season of America's Got Talent which seemed to be mostly contestants from other Got Talent franchises had better selection. Yeah. I'm out. It's a pity because some of the acts are really good. Piano kid should have been relegated to The Gong Show.

Would be more interesting if they would surprise us and fudge the timelines some more. Kendra and Joe are expecting another one! But Felicity was just born, hold on here...

Josiah and Lauren: He Has To Marry Somebody
PikaScrewChu replied to frenchtoast's topic in Counting On
Menstrual synchrony has been found to be a myth though. I'm more inclined to believe Jessa and co are fudging timelines for publicity sake. Otherwise that "heartfelt letter" wouldn't have been published in People. If they're not fudging timelines and truly believe they had the same due date then they need to attend one of Ben's math lessons.- 6.4k replies

Josiah and Lauren: He Has To Marry Somebody
PikaScrewChu replied to frenchtoast's topic in Counting On
I don't think they faked it either. I agree that Lauren was probably doing pregnancy tests constantly though and caught it as soon as the line was faint. What doesn't make sense is if Jessa and Lauren shared the same due date. Duggar Data updated with information since Jessa claimed she was 25 weeks along. That puts Jessa's due date at anywhere between June 1st and June 6th (if we're believing Guinn's post about Seewald #3 being due in June). The earliest a pregnancy tests would have shown up positive was the week of September 21st if Lauren shared the same due date as Jessa. Yet Lauren announced she was pregnant on Michelle's birthday which was September 13th. Ugh. Jessa's post is making me even more stabby now. Regina George indeed.- 6.4k replies

Jilly Muffin and her cooking have nothing on me. I managed to set my oven on fire. I will never snark on her cooking again. Being a Sunday and all, the maintenance guy for my building called me back after I talked to the superintendent. He determined it wasn't urgent and wasn't going to drive 30 minutes when he can deal with it tomorrow morning. I know I've fried it. The worst part is I have a phobia of fire. The landlord here for some reason isn't required to have a fire extinguisher in each unit. The nearest one is locked up at the other end of the hallway. My first thought was just to get it out and get it out NOW. I turned off the oven, grabbed a mixing bowl full of clean water and doused the fire. The maintenance guy was mad I used water. It was the only thing I had quick access to before the phobia kicked in and I pulled a Homer Simpson. It did the trick, thankfully. No causing fireballs or anything. I don't look forward to tomorrow and dealing with them. This oven has been on its last legs anyway. I've spoke to management several times pointing out the stove hasn't been functioning properly. The maintenance guy always insists it is just fine. I don't need a lecture, thanks. I know baking soda or a fire extinguisher would have worked better but I'm tired and stressed out. I've spent most of the day since then shaking. I ended up ordering several meals to keep for the next couple of days since I don't think I'll have a new stove for a few days. I ate them all out of nervousness. Bah.

LSSC: Season Four Episode Talk
PikaScrewChu replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Late Show With Stephen Colbert
I should go watch the interview with Seth (who is next when I go back to NYC). It seemed so awkward because she stated from the beginning she was an adamant Republican but hated Trump. But she was still an adamant Republican. Stephen was trying to direct the conversation about why she's still standing behind a party with a leader she can't stand and Ana wanted to take the conversation elsewhere. I thought Stephen was going to get the nail filing treatment. I was waiting for Ana to pull out a nail file there. The interview would have probably worked better in his Colbert Report character. I looked it up because I was interested in her background and why she's so staunchly Republican. Ana has stated that she has voted Democrat since Trump became the GOP nominee. I'm surprised that didn't come up. It can be difficult when you have two talk show hosts from different backgrounds who are overly political. I've noticed that talk show hosts have to work harder to step back whenever they are the guest on another talk show. It's a fascinating dynamic to watch. -
We do know that there was evidence of playing the children against each other. Jana was forced to give her most treasured possession to Jessa Blessa when she dared complained about Blessa being an actual annoyance. Jill being "the snitch" and encouraged to tattle. Except you know, she did tattle on the Golden Child. Anyway. Everywhere else is commenting on how lovely and sweet of a post this is. Even /r/DuggarsSnark. To me this is a Regina George move by Jessa and I don't even like Lauren. I can't imagine what it must have been when Queen Blessa found out that she and Lauren had the same due date before Lauren miscarried. Not pleasant I suppose.

I must be the last person that was watching this. And I turned it off during the singing nun doing her interpretation of Like a Virgin. That has to be some elaborate prank. This would have worked so much better as a variety show. So much better.

I suspect Jilly fell out of JB's good graces a while ago.
-
I'm very surprised Jilly Muffin has really distanced herself from the family since the departure from TLC. I thought she would be the most clingy. They are able to edit out the Smuggars from the show. They should be able to easily edit out Jill.

LSSC: Season Four Episode Talk
PikaScrewChu replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Late Show With Stephen Colbert
Yep. Several breaks. He spends a lot of time explaining things between the monologue, the intro segment, and the guests. An intern goes to the desk before he interviews every guest and fills him in on the guest and what to ask, etc. The audience Q&A is before taping starts. Then he explains that he's going to watch the cold open with the audience. He goes backstage once the cold open finishes and then runs out to the audience. I didn't find him as personable when I went. He only answered three audience questions (mine was one of them). Granted the woman took way too long to say her question and he ended up just responding with "Yes". He interrupted myself and the other gentleman who asked questions. 😕 I had gotten the first few words out and he started talking over me. Thankfully I was able to finish my question and get a complete answer from him but man oh man. I was a bit disappointed. @Annber03, John Oliver is amazing! If this isn't the place for it I'll move it. He chatted with the audience for a really long time. Granted the studio is tiny. I think it can only seat about 150 people max. Their process is much faster. You go to the studio and they take you up in groups of 10 since the studio is on one of the upper floors. There's a woman who is constantly yelling at you though. They're a bit more lax though. If you have 4 tickets and there's only 3 of you there they will seat you and then you have to notify a staff member once your friend has indicated they are downstairs in the lobby. Seating isn't first come, first serve. It's basically to the discretion of the yelling woman. I ended up in the front row right by the camera because I was alone even though I was nowhere near the first to show up. They do not notify you if you have tickets to the taping until around 9 am the day of though. I had requested two tickets beforehand but the person I was with decided to go home a day early since we both assumed I didn't end up in the lottery for tickets. I called him immediately to see if he could turn around to get back to NYC by 5:30 but he wouldn't have made it in time. It's his favorite TV show too. He will never live that one down. John Oliver does a Q&A too before the show starts. If the show is delayed airing on HBO it's because there was something behind the scenes that delayed the taping. The day I went he was in a meeting with the HBO legal team over another potential lawsuit so he was delayed coming out to do the audience Q&A and taping. The show is exactly as you see it on television. You can see John laughing at the jokes before he's about to make them though. They had to re-dub some of the lines because the audience was too loud laughing and cheering. Otherwise the entire show is done in one take. I haven't had a chance to watch Conan's new format but I wonder if Stephen would be suited to going back to a half hour format. His body language was very interesting. He was never fully confident when doing the monologue or the interviews. I watch the show but I'm still not convinced he's suited for the typical late night format. Going to a taping reinforced that.
