  1. OK - so it may be short lived but glad to see Dr. Choi and VA Doctor Vicky taking another chance with each other? I truly wish/want him to move on but i think we all know this "tension" between April and him will be resolved (*sigh*). April has gotten exactly what she deserved! And poor Maggie - guess she just realized that she's not indispensable; welcome to the real world! Manstead - first: Halstead has taken risks with patients the last couple of episodes. He was almost fired and was sued; you'd think he'd be more careful every time he makes a medical decision that could result in death--or simply not abiding by the patients wishes/putting them at risk. Secondly, holier than thou Manning going to Goodwin and instituting an "emergency" committee - seriously? But lastly, Manstead deserves each other and I was rooting for them to both hurl themselves off the building at the end- just put me out of my misery. And speaking of misery - Bekker and Rhodes; she's so turned on by his bravado/strength/hubris and then to morph into that "sexy" scene - I actually changed the channel! As many of us have said, ad nauseum, no chemistry so just please stop with the alleged hot, sexy love scenes. The COTW - rather sad that both daughter and father died but it seems a bit incredulous that there was absolutely;y no one who could verify if the DNR tattoo was real and/or if his wishes remained the same. "Scratchy" girl - implausible but at least a solution to what I thought was just a psychosomatic problem which I guess, in a sense, it was. Dr. Charles seems to be practicing more medicinal remedies rather than practicing psychiatry but it was all linked together. Arrogant Sam (neurosurgeon) - but that's what surgeons do--they want to cut. And what's up with Goodwin? They haven't shown the CEO for a couple of weeks but Sharon certainly seems to be feeling the pressure of the hybrid room. The way the writing has been this season, I'm glad for this brief respite and it may be the last season I watch if things, e.g, characters, writing, etc., don't improve quickly.
  2. The fact she was an ex-cop had me shaking my head--didn't see that one coming. Nolan and Captain/Chief makes sense to me. You could still have the interplay of a rookie's relationship but navigating with the Captain/Chief--could be good writing material. And I think there'd be a better dynamic and dialogue concerning his doubts/fears of being a cop with her rather than with his 20-something girlfriend. Guess no one wants to see mature relationships--just doesn't sell!
  3. Simply despised the kiss between Devin and Julian although I could see it coming. This doesn't make any sense and yes, it also totally out of character for him which make is creepy and not interesting at all, imo. He and his fiance (Priya) seemed to be happy (she really hasn't been in many episodes) but has helped and supported him when needed (specifically, the Lane incident with the "hypochondriac" patient). Now, they're having problems and she's issuing his an "ultimatum" about relo?? And as another poster said, why wasn't she at the party? Looks like she may be getting written out--so Devin can fully pursue Julian? He'll end up losing both. Bell - why are they trying to make him such a congenial and considerate guy suddenly? Totally OOC (such a departure from his initial character/behavior. Unsure if they're really tying to show "depth of character" or if he'll return to his "known" omnipotent self?) They all know hims as HODAD and his devious ways but curiously, they've seems to have forgotten that. And now a love interest with Jane Leeves (Dr. Voss?). Has he met his match? Why even bring Lane back for an episode or two (she has been written out from what I have read). I do like Mina and Dr. Austin together (they are equal partners and have a mutual respect--just don't "damage" the relationship should they get together). I also enjoy the great, professional banter and chemistry among the three (can't think of the other woman surgeon's name). Liking that Connic 's staying the steady course - just don't fiddle too much with their relationship (writers). BTW, when will we find out what really happened with Conrad's mother's death.
  4. To paraphrase from another show I used to love, "don't ruin the story with your logic!"
  5. Will try to keep this short and succinct regarding the characters in this episode. Most of my thoughts while watching were just "hello no" so in no particular order (where's that eye-rolling emoji when you need it, *sigh*): Sadly, looks like Bekker is here to stay. Guess the writers felt she had to redeem herself after betraying Rhodes and getting the father to pay for the new surgery-op room. Just HELL NO to their relationship. I was actually hoping she would meet her demise during the transfusion but, of course, that didn't happen. Agree with others - there's is ZERO chemistry between them, is just maddening to watch, and it's simply painful when they're together. Wish they'd bring back Robin but that doesn't look like a possibility. HELL NO: Manstead - What a pitiful, pathetic couple. Him - with an ulcer he didn't realize he had? Isn't he a dr? Guess all of his stress over the mafia guy (or whoever he is) is taking a toll. And hold on a minute - isn't Manning a pediatric oncologist or at least some specialist in pediatrics? While I realize she's not an OB-GYN, it was a bit incredulous for Dr. Charles--who hasn't performed a delivery since med school--an probably NOT a c-section--talks she through a C-Section? I've had C-sections and it's major surgery--certainly not as simple as they showed and with limited tools! Now, I'd think she'd be a bit more knowledgeable with recent procedures but for him to actually talk her through the procedure so she could regain her confidence was just a bit far fetched. At this rate, they SHOULDN'T get married which was a stupid idea anyway. HELL NO: End the relationship with Choi and April. I was so happy to see his former gf return although I'm certain that will be short lived. At least they had some spark between them. April's indecisiveness about their relationship, his sister (who I hope has made an exit from the show), is just infuriating. They should have never gotten together and don't need to see the angst that is certainly, forthcoming. These writers better make a u-turn quickly as this show is on a runaway path!
  6. Agreed with the Castle part. As I mentioned in another episode post, AH was the showrunner that brought on Castle's demise. Now, imo, Castle was beginning to go off the rails starting S5 when many writers left (end of S3) and they lost their way. Then, the Castle "showrunner merry-go-round" began and it only worsened. AH has the me formulaic writing style with NF as he did with Castle and it truly doesn't do NF any favors but for some reason, AH & NF think it works (believe NF is an EP for The Rookie). Agree there should have been another showrunner but we're stuck with this and the ratings will tell the tale with their coveted demographic 18-49 and at times, even 18-35. Don't believe NF carries that demo any longer. Yes, I watched FF but as we all know, that was eons ago! The Rookie is mediocre--not one I clamor to see every week (and yeah, I was a huge Castle fan) but NF needs a different vehicle; his acting is really not much of a stretch in this role.
  7. Interesting episode! First, didn't know Nic had panic attacks; I, too, thought maybe someone had spiked er drink initially; glad her sister was there to support her. Agreed - the poor patient that lost an arm and leg; he's just might have been thinking he's better off dead. I thought at first it must be some type of Halloween prank for Pravesh--especially since those fingers kept changing but sadly, it was real. Bell - first: engaging in risky behavior? WTH - he can't get a woman so he's trolling porn sites and going out with hookers? Thought he was such an eligible bachelor? Didn't really make sense he'd sink to those depths, but I thought it was hilarious his assistant set up Bell with his mom - good one! Bell just becomes more immoral and unethical with each episode. The woman with night terrors - that was just plain scary but happy they figured out what was wrong. But on to Conrad and his dad - agree - not sure which direction the writers will go with on this one. If Marshall truly raveled/worked extensively, had he just gotten home to the tragic accident and, as HH states, blamed Conrad for her death? Does he blame himself for his wife's death? Conrad looked really frightened when looking (back) at the man--or WAS it his dad--as the mom lay on the floor. I'll have to rewatch that scene to see if she truly tripped (drunk) or if there was something else there. I also think Marshall is being too secretive as to where he was with this "missed appointment"--so, is he ill? Foreshadowing again with how much time he spent working and not taking the time with his family, having second regrets, e.g., no work/life balance--and he sees that taking a toll on Conrad?
  8. I get kind of sick of seeing these shows/movies where some guy is sleeping with a young, beautiful woman when there seems to be no reason for it other than they older more established male star needs to be seen to be "hot" so he gets to be seen to hook up with someone youthful and vibrant. Would said woman really be interested in real life? I'm not so sure. I'm growing a bit tired of these relationships and with everything that's actually gone on in Hollywood as of late (#metoomovement), I'm surprised they would still proceed with this relationship. Yes, they're both rookies but as the other TO said to her to "break it off"--and I get it, not because of age. But in reality, what irks me is that why they couldn't have a more "mature" woman play his love interest. They act as if there's a problem with having or portraying that type of relationship. After all, he does have a grown son who's closer in age to the woman he's dating.
  9. Agreed. Wish they would have come up with a different vehicle for him to play. If they want to maintain the police procedural avenue, why couldn't he have been the Captain, TO, a judge, lawyer, etc. BTW, this is just another reboot of the original series with Paul Sorvino (for those old enough to remember that) so I'd rather see him play a different sort of role. This is different from the Rookies with Kate Jackson, Georg Sanford Brown, Michael Ontkean and think there was one more. I was a huge Castle fan until the character assassination starting late S4 and onward. Also, with Alexi Hawley being the showrunner (with this series), resulted in the downfalls of Castle in the latter seasons and ruined it for most of us fans on the Castle boards. . This isn't truly a huge stretch, acting-wise, for NF and I'll have to give it another few episodes before I cast judgment. It's not a bad ensemble cast but the storyline is a bit weak. I don't believe it will have the necessary staying power for multiple seasons.
  10. First, a rather melancholy episode with the little brother dying; nice gesture to help him realize his policeman dream of capturing The Germ. I was relieved that his dying wasn't the last scene of the episode. Poor Conrad, he's lost two patients now--through no fault of his own (Lilly and now the little boy)--so how will this affect his and Nic's relationship? Will they possibly think of trying again (another child?) or does this resurface the too painful memories of their loss? I thought the "flying through skylight" doctor (can't remember his name) might have worked for Quo Vadis as who else will forgive a medical student loan AND command a 6- figures salary?! It wasn't revealed in this episode and maybe he simply works for another marketing firm. Interesting if he'll return for another episode. Of course, there will be problems with the Quo Vadis product and no surprise that Dr. Austin's mentor, Dr. Benedict--as in Benedict Arnold, lol--is as unethical, greedy, immoral and unprofessional as HODAD. Bell has not moral compass as long as he makes more money (and profit for hospital). He was bought just like Dr. Benedict. How disappointed will Dr. Austin be when he learns his mentor has sold out for good old-fashioned avarice? I'm not sure what this relationship is brewing between Dr. Bell and Kit; I wonder if she will become another casualty/adversary of Bell's by trying to do the right thing? I don't like the Dr. Pravish and Julian "connection/budding friendship". There's clearly more undercurrent to the story and it doesn't make sense that he'd be interested in another woman. He's always worked long hours, been faithful to an understanding fiance, and suddenly, he can't resist the sales woman? So, for him to possibly/potentially take that step, with Julian, makes me lose respect for his character/him..
  11. Agree with all the above. I'm probably int he minority but I like AJ; he's not arrogant but confident in his abilities and believe there's some type of undercurrent for Mena (glad the "real" Mena's back). It seems he has a great appreciation for intelligence and hard work along with a solid work ethic which Bell despises (how dare someone challenge him"?!). I enjoy watching the tension between Marshall and Bell; I hope Marshall doesn't back down although yes, there's also some underlying reason (festering) that I haven't quite figured out between Conrad and him. I like the Connic dynamic and the flashback was unexpected. I'm not certain, either, how long they date before she miscarried but he is in love with her (gave her his mom's ring) and strongly believe he wants it to work this time. Just NO to Devon and Medical Sales Rep; it doesn't make sense that he would cheat and he really has no reason to be so "enamored" with her medical devices, or dancing skills *sigh*
  12. Where do I begin? Can this show be more of a trainwreck? Why is the CEO so unlikable? What is up with the obnoxious and arrogant Intern/Resident Curry (please tell me she's not Reese's "replacement")? Halstead coercing his friend's dad to give them the reception hall –after he was even reluctant to do a house call--for their wedding only to find out he’s a mobster? Manning just doesn't seem to be into this wedding; wonder if it will actually happen?? BTW, was that Reese's ex boyfriend, Joe, Halstead “convinced” into running the bloodwork? Anyway, onto the “meh” episode with all the unnecessary angst/risks taken, i.e., the supreme sacrifice by the father who commits suicide because Chief of ED/CEO won't allow a kidney transplant; Curry lying about dead fetus (saw that coming) but glad Dr. Charles called her on it; although, clearly, it was evident with that look on her face that she has some deep, dark secret that will eventually come out; the mother willing to risk her baby’s life and her own because of her devout religious beliefs; Rhodes going off the rails taking an unrealistic chance with a patient and using Maggie to assist? Naturally, the operation was successful, though. Interesting if Maggie returns to the or maybe her character will be a bit more valuable/useful other than her directives as to which room someone needs to be in. And who is this new Chief of ED; what happened to Dr. Stohl? Exactly why is the new CEO there usurping Sharon’s authority/responsibility as well as being so condescending to her? I don’t see the point of her character; just unnecessary opposition, strain and friction which doesn’t make for a good or worthwhile/fascinating storyline. And, not that I really care, but what’s going on between Bekker (who I abhor anyway) and Rhodes? Is he “punishing” her because she doesn't want to be in a relationship with him? Talk about passive-aggressive with the freeze out in the OR, apology and then wants to extend a peace offering (drinks)? Please, just stop; these two just don’t work, are boring and there’s no type of romantic tension to make it appealing, imo. Just get her gone from this show. Lastly, Choi and April - they don’t need to be together either (no chemistry) but if they're going to break up, please don't use someone else (Emily) as the excuse--just state they've grown apart as they've done with other couples. I believe he’s very caring/empathetic with the patients and tries to balance the hospital rules. April is non-supportive, ineffectual and pathetic with her mixed signals to him on everything from his personal life (sister, Emily) and hospital decisions which are reasons why the relationship doesn’t work and needs to cease asap! Do the writers and showrunner deliberately want a quick demise to this once stellar show (Season 1)? Since I don’t watch the other Chicago shows, the crossovers are not intriguing enough for me to watch, but I’m sure a ploy to get viewers to watch all 3 shows. It seems like a cheap and lazy way to get viewers to watch with these lackluster storylines; I'd rather the shows stand on their own merit with a VERY RARE crossover but even next week hs Chicago PD characters. I don't remember that so much in the earlier seasons. If this Chicago Med season doesn’t turn around quickly, I’ll be through with this season of the franchise. All good points of which there was no real resolution. Exactly - the father kidnaps the boy and yet the mother reports nothing (guess she still doesn't know). Agree - let Halstead get another reception hall but guess this show needs some "drama" and another way to crossover to one of the other franchise shows. Agree again - as mentioned in my post, is Curry the "new Reese replacement". Makes no sense!
  13. I, too, wondered if there's a hidden agenda with Marshall. Clearly, Bell is not his favorite person and I thought there would be more tension between those two. Even though Marshall and Conrad had been estranged for years, Marshall did bail Nic out of prison and became the COB for a reason He does seem to want to be fair to the hospital and patients. I hope this storyline is developed and not just dropped. Bell has once again, sidestepped another catastrophe, with the help of his attorney (and agree with other posters - really, a prostitute?) I thought it was laughable that suddenly, Lane was the "love of his life" but yet, he had no problem destroying her career in this set up---as if he hasn't murdered people in the OR. Actually, I was happy she was undercover and thought maybe he'll get his comeuppance but of course, he landed on his feet, for now. I don't care for Bell's amoral, unscrupulous, devious and smug behavior; his total lack of disregarding that he feels entitles him to being (above being) held accountable for anything. He will continue with these despicable actions but when will he get caught? And now for the angst--which I'm not really a fan: Obvious that Mena/Mycah are at a crossroad and yeah, what's up with Austin watching from afar? I don't care for this "presumed" relationship developing between Devon and the new med sales rep (Jenna Dewan) based on the previews for next week. Now, I realize previews are sometimes taken out of context, but this doesn't make sense. Devon appeared to be very happy with his fiance and no real problems but what, he's enamored with Julia's medical devices?? PUH-LEEZE!! Looks like "Connic" may be en route to a serious disagreement of patient treatment and/or hospital procedure which will cause a rift in their relationship.
  14. I had high hopes for this show (maybe my standards/expectations are too high) but I was a bit disappointed with the storyline, dialogue and some of the actors. I'll give it another few weeks (this was my alternate to The Resident--which has begun to go off the rails) so I don't know; may be back to The Resident. Will be interesting to see how they handle the doctor's cancer, i.e., will it drag on as a secret, will he seek attention or as another poster mentioned, will he find a cure? Not saying to check your brain at the door or that viewers aren't smart, but I imagine as with any/most programs today, you have to simply look at it as entertainment value; otherwise, you'll drive yourself crazy looking at all the faults instead of just trying to enjoy the show for what it is.

    S01.E01: Pilot

That is funny; I've heard that same tag line on several of the new shows!

    S01.E01: Pilot

Agreed - the premise might be a bit incredulous, but the pilot kept my interest and liked the cliffhanger and how this will be addressed going forward. There was so much crammed into this pilot episode which may have been the intent that I'm certain--or at least hopeful--over the coming weeks, they'll intelligently delve into the backgrounds and perhaps even have the reactions of the families who thought they were missing and how they dealt with that grief. Agree with others, don't want the heavy-handedness of a religious angle but want to see how this actually affects those on the plane as they piece their lives back together and make this 2nd chance worthwhile/meaningful. It will be interesting to see how all these loose ends are tied together; I just hope it doesn't go off the rails with some ridiculous trope to ruin this inaugural season.
  17. Glad I found this board (have been on the Chicago Med board which has turned into a trainwreck). Anyway, back to The Resident. I agree with some of your assessment although I don't think it was fair to "set up " Lane" to save himself but guess that is typical! Bell is (and has done) dangerous, reckless, and unethical things in the ER --currently has not been totally exposed--and is just as culpable of negligence as Lane even though yes, her's was far worse. I believe they've written her off the show permanently but she certainly had the"goods" on Bell should they ever bring her back. Agreed - the hacker shouldn't have gotten off with a simple apology for the devastation she caused. Bell, with all his hubris proceeding to fire the IT guy and admin was ridiculously stupid (they were bit players anyway) and now going after Conrad, ,e.g., "who made that first cut" - wow, he has no shame in being the self-proclaimed king of the hospital. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop since Conrad's father is now Chairman of the Board. Can't wait to see the sparks fly on that battle. Nina - yeah, what's happened to her kick-ass skills and storyline. Why have the writers developed this relationship with Micah/Mycah - there's no chemistry between them; it's feels more platonic than romantic. So, let's get her back to the brilliant skiillset she's supposed to possess. I could see her more with the new surgeon (can't think of MJW character's name) than this young man who's had a crush on her since Day 1. What was the elevator scene about? That certainly could have been/should have been easily edited from the script - no value add at all. I am a fan of "Connic" as their relationship seems to be a typical, normal relationship--at least for the moment--so hope the writers don't screw that up!
  18. Agreed. Think she was always ill equipped to be in psychiatry and should have stayed in the ER. Each successive season seems to slide further downhill--for a show that started with such promise, imo.. Wonder if she'll be in any new shows on any network? Salary dispute? Creative differences? They could have replaced Bekker, Noah or other secondary characters.. Now there's a "new crop" of residents and Resident Curry is going to be a problem, e.g..,, hubris, condescension and a non-tea player know it all).
  19. Thought I'd give the show another chance and it did not disappoint. This unwatchable trope has to go; I don't know where to begin. Bekker is still there and really hoped she';d leave the show. Will Connor find out she went to his father for funding and will it damage the "relationship" further? Those two have zero chemistry and I really wish the writers/showrunner/director would stop pushing that relationship. April and Choi - never seen such flip-flopping about his sister--"give her a chance, no I can't."; now that she's pregnant, the tables are turned and April is back in her corner. So many issues with the pregnancy of a (former?) drug addict. Reese - really she's quitting the show? And then there's Reese's dad - not surprised he's in jail but will Reese's misplaced angry/hurt feelings toward Dr. Charles be resolved? Maybe I didn't hear that over the summer - can anyone confirm if she has been written out of the show; is this true? Pitting Sharon against the new COO - seriously? Guess women just can't work together without undermining each other. Pitiful. Manstead - he is such a doofus and she is a manipulator. NO, she doesn't seem to want to marry him and for him to run off like a petulant child at the party - geesh, how old are these people - 12?? Another relationship that shouldn't be . I don't believe I will be able to stomach this season. The writing quality is horrendous, so I'll watch the new series Amsterdam as my medical drama which at least had a promising start and storyline. Looking forward to other comments and thoughts on this season opener!
  20. Your last sentence encapsulates it well; it is a convoluted mess and one that's not even the least bit interesting. I certainly won't be counting the days for the fall's season return. *sigh* Season 1 was by far the best, and it's only gone downhill from there.
  21. Believe you've nailed the highlights, and lowlights, of this episode. It was just "meh" and so predictable. Of course, Reese's father isn't dead; of course, Manning will say yes--probably with some caveat (Will is the puppy she controls); Choi and April - seriously, you're going to chastise him for now wanting to help his sister and you've loudly proclaimed how important family is? Yeah, 180 degree turn. And lastly, Rhodes and Bekker - get her the hell off the show. Give her the job at the Mayo Clinic; just let her be gone. That relationship doesn't and never will work. The entire drama surrounding Goodwin's husband was so typical, i.e., leaves wife of 30 years to find younger wife who dies; younger wife professes to the ex to look after her husband; Goodwin berates him for what he's done and is doing BUT "live" for our kids - pathetic trope. IMO, Goodwin still seems to harbor resentment (and perhaps rightfully so) but hasn't totally move forward even with that 'impassioned" speech she gave Burt. This season finale is not one that will be discussed over the summer until the fall return. Definitely need better writers/storylines.
  22. I haven't commented on the last few episodes and as with most of these "soap-opera" type shows, it has become so hackneyed that I can hardly stand to watch it. The banal, lackadaisical writing and uninspiring storylines--let alone these "dynamic" relationships/interaction among the staff (*sigh*)--has become tortuous to watch and makes this viewer not want to root for any of the characters. The mindless trope, the avoidance of any real consequences to their action (except currently for Rhodes Herculean effort that failed but who I'm sure will redeem himself), the extraordinary heroic tactics of Manning and the incessant fawning of Halstead (towards Manning on anything she does) has grown tiresome. Why have the writers made him into Manning's lackey? Dr. Latham, who we see too infrequently, at least tries to be fair and logical (maybe sometimes too much so) but his decision making is sound. Ava - please, just put me out of my misery and transfer her, have her encounter a life threatening fatal illness, etc. Her sardonic, condescending manner is abhorrent which only makes it impossible for Rhodes and her to have any kind of relationship; just huge mistake! Choi & April - just end it now; there's truly no chemistry or similar background or foundation of a story; let them go their own way. Dr. Reese/Dr. Charles/Reese's father triangle - one can only guess how the writers will resolve that quandary--at least one that is plausible?? Doubtful. Maggie and Sharon - talk about props; there has been zero character development for them. Thank goodness, this was the penultimate episode. The finale is anyone's guess as to what kind of cliffhanger they'll leave us with to ponder before the new season starts. I had such high hopes in S1 but for me, this show is just about off the rails. I don't know what, if anything, can be done to save it from total derailment.
  23. Absolutely - couldn't believe that was the end game with her "pain". Pathetic! To quote a character from a favorite show of mine, "don't ruin the story with your logic"!
  24. Maybe if there's enough fan uproar on that Bekker/Rhodes relationship, they'll ship her off somewhere or just end it. I believe it was S1 where Connor was sleeping with another dr. there at the hospital (seemed to be a budding relationship) but they wrote her off the show. I can only pray they'll do the same with Bekker; she's just annoying and so brittle. Yeah, would rather see him playing the field than settling with her. Also, in agreement with the Choi/April relationship - it really doesn't make any sense and for me, no chemistry. I guess I'm not ready to admit Manstead is the best relationship, LOL, but I don't care for them either. Oh you cynic--but sadly you're probably right! Just like another show, the guy drove a Ferrari and the S550; suddenly, he's extolling the virtues of his new Buick, "the trunk space", lol!!
  25. Couldn't agree more! I don't believe I'm in the minority with Rhodes/Bekker relationship having a quick demise; that entire scene was so stilted. Was she thinking (at the show's end) that she was, perhaps, just another in a long list in his "one-night stands" (he did say he had plans but changed them) OR was she just angry about what had transpired with the CF boy? What are the writers trying to portray--two strong-headed/strong-willed people can/cannot make it work? Please, just bring back Robyn (Mekkia Cox). The pedophile - yeah, if you wanted to die, I thought the same thing--first being, don't even go to the hospital; just die at home. Then Halstead has a revelation in the end? WTH?? After all that holier than thou talk to April about life, he's my patient, etc., he holds his hand and lets him die--purposely sending April out of the room? And the pedophile with the whole "cancer is my challenge"--whatever the words were--don't try to atone and play the martyr. The pizza room "debacle" - seriously? Guess it's all about the money for that hospital! So true; what an unbelievable stupid decision, and yes, I think you simply have to suspend belief (and sound logic) with some of the goings-on with this show!
