  1. What bothered me about Wendy's comments was that there's no point to them other than to make Gizelle feel like a bad parent. If the comments were made when Grace was still choosing a school, then they could be seen as helpful. But Grace has already accepted and is about to start (or already started) her college of choice in Florida. So Wendy chiming in with all the bad things about Florida? If I'm being generous, I'd say simply not helpful. If I'm being cynical, deliberately mean.
  2. Not strictly media about the show, but thought this was interesting given the discussion of whether it was realistic that Maud could pose as a member of society and scam men for money. Book coming out in June: The Impostor Heiress: Cassie Chadwick, The Greatest Grifter of the Gilded Age by Annie Reed - about a woman who lied her way into society and "convinced prominent men from Cleveland to New York City that she was Andrew Carnegie’s illegitimate daughter. Blinded by the name of the most powerful man in the world, businessmen lined up to loan her hundreds of thousands of dollars at a time. The con made her impossibly rich." Definitely going to read it.
  3. To be fair, there were some unusually mild days in December in the north, so could have been one of those days. Not like 80 degrees, but 50s, so for a brief ‘step out of the car and walk into the building’? Probably not crazy. Other than that? All I’ve got is how sad and depressing this all seemed.
  4. I think, as she was brought on by Kyle, she saw which way the wind was blowing in terms of two of the power players, Kyle and Dorit. It's been clear from the first episode that they were determined to bring Sutton down a few pegs because of how popular she was last season and, as AnneMarie is a newbie, she decided to get on board that train. A mistake, first because her approach is all kinds of wrong (commenting on someone's medical situation, and her a medical worker of some kind), and second because at about the time AnneMarie came in with this to "support" Kyle, Kyle's life was starting to implode and she began shifting her focus away from Sutton. For that matter, now so is Dorit, who has some kind of feelings about Kyle's situationship with Morgan.
  5. For me it would never be great as I hate Nick, but the biggest ick I have with it is the timing. Sally and Adam had just broken up and it was 100% clear that not only was Adam still deeply in love with her, but also clear, was that Sally still loved Adam (even to neanderthal Nick). Nick knew that he was sticking a knife in Adam and he was happy to do it. It was all so rushed, because of the writing I'm sure, and felt deliberately mean. I don't remember the Sage era at all (may not have been watching then), but as to Sharon: she and Nick had been on/off for years and had had many different partners between them. When she got with Adam I believe they were pretty long broken up and Nick was with Phyllis - could be wrong on that - so Adam and Sharon falling for each other felt like a more natural progression. At least that's my memory. All colored, I'm sure, by my liking Adam and hating Nick. 😉
  6. I had just a moment where I thought they’d flash to a view of Jen watching with a bunch of prisoner friends. I Know Monica has become a fan favorite but this is pretty dirty. And her saying it started as a takedown of Jen and the others were collateral damage, with an oh well shrug? Big wow. Later she tried to sell it as some noble cause for the people Jen hurt, but what she said first is more believable. I’m sure she’ll be back next season, but can’t figure any of the others would want to film with her. And given Monica has been doubling down on social media, this is Phaedra levels of “nope” from the other women.
  7. Marian may not have known that she "liked" Larry, but I think the signs were there. She lights up anytime she sees him - so much so that even when she saw him at the tennis match and approached him just to say hello Mrs. Blaine went on immediate alert. I agree that her face certainly indicated that she wasn't averse to the kiss and I really liked the little "oh" she gave when the kiss ended. It was an "oh, you've made me realize something" kind of oh. I know they're endgame couple but haven't been particularly interested in any rush to get them there. Now I'm a little more invested - though I still would like it to be a slower burn. Gladys is interesting to me. So far she has shown that she's still trying to figure out what she wants. She was seriously considering Oscar simply to be out from under her mother's thumb, even though she had no feelings for him other than mild friendship. And she likes Billy because he's fun to talk to. All pretty normal for a teenage girl, no doubt. But also just going with the flow at this point. I certainly don't want her forced into a marriage she doesn't want, but I won't mind the storyline if it allows for her to grow a bit and start to figure out her own direction in life.
  8. Not convinced they'll try to redeem him. I think the actor was getting so much great buzz for his portrayal and everyone was loving him. That means he had to be taken down as no one can be bigger than EricBraedenGreatVictorNewman. Separate note: what's the over/under on how long before Claire is named co-CEOCOOCFO of Newman Enterprises and Adam is pushed even further aside? I give it a month.
  9. Reminder: No spoilers. If something happened after the show was filmed it belongs in a character thread or media thread. There is also a thread for WWHL appearances. Stay on topic. If you want to discuss in detail any personal experiences or travel plans to SC, please do so in the Small Talk thread.
  10. It was me, or I was one who did. Played out just as I guessed and still I loved it. Loved Bannister’s reaction in particular and how Agnes suddenly realized what it meant. Like everyone else I know Larry/Marion is endgame, but I have wanted it to be a slower burn. Even so I was charmed by their kiss. As to Gladys, I certainly want her to find love too, but don’t find the young swain we met for the first time tonight interesting at all. She’s smart and charming and I want more for her.
  11. No interest whatsoever. It's all moving pieces between these mega-conglomerates and none of it matters at all. No one is becoming homeless because they lost their CEO job at this company today because they'll be named co-COO at this other company tomorrow. There are literally no real stakes in any of it. And where is the romance? Truly name one couple that has you fully enthralled? Or even mildly interested? There's Adam/Sally, but that was ruined by the writers and Nick, so I don't really care anymore. But other than that? Nothing. Kyle and Summer's marriage fell apart and where's their angst and will they/won't they get back together? Not that I want them to, don't like either of them, but it's soap storytelling 101 to draw things out. Have one longing for the other. Doing anything possible to win them back. Nope. Crickets. Same when Chance and Abby broke up. The only one who shows any lingering effects from a breakup is Adam - and that's only so that the writers can have the other characters bash him day to day, have Nick abuse him daily and Sally shoot him down over and over. There's never too much heaped on Adam.
  12. A great idea for a spin-off - Mrs. Fish Investigates.
  13. I re-watched the ep where Aurora introduces Maud to Oscar and talks about her to Oscar and then the rest of the family. It’s clear she’s basing everything on Maud’s appearing to have money and what she’s heard about her. One of the things she’s heard about Maud is that she’s maybe the illegitimate daughter of Jay Gould. And when Maud talks to Oscar for the first time she says she’s been living in Paris, which is why no one knows her and that she’s spent time with Mrs. Fish. So young woman moves to NY with companion and starts spreading word about her own background by getting in with Mrs Fish, who’s a major gossip who collects interesting people. She flaunts money so she appears wealthy and lets everyone think that all that wealth comes from her robber-barron father Jay Gould. But you can’t ask her about Jay Gould because she’s illegitimate. It’s a perfect setup and I’ll give JF credit for laying the clues from early in the season. As to Oscar, I think others have covered how he was drawn in by the classic grift. But I’ll add that I think he was even more vulnerable than usual because George shut him down so hard as regards Gladys. I think there was some part of him that wanted to prove he could play with the big boys.
  14. Given that the reverend is a goner - something I was sure was going to happen given Fellows actually let the marriage take place, but still wants the Ada/Agnes relationship as comedic backdrop - I'm wondering if Luke is secretly rich and leaves a lot of money to Ada. So Oscar gets scammed, losing a good chunk of his money and perhaps Agnes's as well. But Ada inherits a mint from Luke. Now Ada has money and the power dynamics in the household shift. I'm only about 30/70 on this actually happening this way, but it could definitely shake things up for Ada/Agnes and company.
  15. So all this buildup and it’s over in a couple episodes? Nikki kidnapped, everyone poisoned and poof, done. Sure Jordan will pop up to “menace” them again, I’m sure. But beyond that, what? Really, this was the grand plan? No words.
  16. She delivers her lines with a kind of flat affect, but also a bit twee, that it's coming across as really forced. The actress was so good as the young Kirsten in Station Eleven, but there the flat affect really worked as her character had been severely traumatized and was trying to survive an apocalyptic pandemic. I've been thinking of Larry/Marion and while I get that the show (Fellows) is for sure heading in that direction, I don't think it should happen yet. The actress playing Marion gets a lot of (fair) criticism for her bland acting, but the actor playing Larry isn't many degrees better. They're both weaker members of the cast, and because they're the "nice" characters, they also get the blandest of dialogue much of the time. I'd like Marion to continue to pursue her outside interests and develop more as a character, same for Larry. Pair both of them with actors who can challenge them a bit more. That's happened a bit with Agnes/Marion and Mrs. Blaine/Larry and their acting is the better for it. All that to say I'm in no rush for them to be a pair.
  17. I’m starting to wonder if it’s Miss Beaton who is playing Oscar. She’s clearly very intelligent but when it comes to business it’s all ‘I just can’t understand all these business words and I must bring Oscar to help me’. And it just happens the investment needs just a bit more money.
