  1. I'm a little confused. Towns aren't supposed to rebuild because they are affected by hurricanes? I guess then LA shouldn't rebuild because wildfires happen, North Carolina shouldn't rebuild because there could always be floods, etc.? Last night there was a tornado in Ennis, Texas. Well dang, goodbye Ennis! The truth is that this model has apparently worked for Laurel (heck, I even went there and I don't go anywhere!), and they are hoping that the formula works in other areas. I don't think giving people hope is a bad thing. I live on tornado alley (in Texas). Seems to me that there are very few places that aren't affected by adverse weather conditions in one way or the other. Is HGTV supposed to find that unicorn city that isn't in danger of being wiped out by weather? I'm not trying to be hateful, I am generally confused by this train of thought.
  2. I thought it was a really pretty town. The renovation on the Soda Shop was really nice and the paint job on the outside really made a difference. I also liked the house they renovated and the family seemed very nice. Kind of cool to see the original Home Town contractor back working with them again.
  3. I've gotten the impression that some of the celebrities that have been on recently might be friends of Zoey's - he certainly seemed to be on good terms with Courtney's dogs.
  4. Did anyone ever catch what relationship Courtney Cox had with the woman on last night's episode, besides her being her dog babysitter? It is obvious they had a close relationship (and that was a really great renovation by the way and the homeowner was clearly thrilled) but I couldn't figure out their connection. Plus they have only known each other since 2020 so less than 5 years which is somewhat unusual for this show.
  5. I was glad Carly was the one to go - she was definitely the least consistent of the final 4 but you are correct - she did go out with a great spirit. And she got a puppy.
  6. I'm never a fan of open shelves. I barely clean the junk that sits out on the counter - no way am I going to clean dishes that have sat in the opening gathering grease and dust.
  7. I think Kyle must have married tall and beautiful because his son towered over him and he is definitely attractive. Honestly Kyle was one of my least favorite celebrities - he just hit wrong for me - but his fondness for the family they were doing the renovation for was certainly endearing. I felt he was a little twitchy but perhaps the unscripted aspect just isn't his comfort zone.
  8. I was a little underwhelmed by the kitchen tile. I guess they were going for a subtle color scheme (which isn't the norm for this artist in my opinion) which I understand but I would have liked either a little more pattern or a little more color. Perhaps it translated better in person. I thought the floors were lovely and loved that they showed their age and yet were improved by restoring them to their original color. I also loved the exterior color and the bedroom color. The best parts of the house were the pantry and the front porch. Would have liked to have known the back story on the family.
  9. Happy Piper finally won also. To be honest she's been so consistently good I had forgotten that she hadn't won. Honestly I was kind of surprised that both Micah and Carly pulled out good bakes at the end because they both seemed to struggle.
  10. Good to know. I need to apologize - yesterday everything that came out of my mouth and my fingers was snarky and there was no reason for me to come at you like that.
  11. The balloons were safely encased in boxes - I'm pretty sure they were just decorations. They had cannons that threw out confetti, which I'm sure is also not environmentally friendly but at least it went straight to the ground (or Ben's shirt) instead of floating away. I am not worried about other people's privilege - I have worked for years as a secretary in a law firm. If I worried about other people's salary I could have gone to law school too. The idea for the art apparently came from one of Erin's college classes where they encouraged making art out of found pieces. Wasn't my favorite thing but I did think the end result was rather cool. If watching a show about a nice couple who seem to do really nice renovations, treat other people with respect, and have a loving relationship makes you depressed perhaps you should stop watching it. No reason to go postal over a television show.
  12. Did I sleep through Mr. David's tile? I didn't think they used any tile in the house, instead using the same granite (or marble - I get those two mixed up) consistently throughout each of the rooms. I don't even recall seeing Mr. David. Erin's painting turned out very well and was probably perfect for this couple's aesthetic. My favorite part was how Mallorie was featured in this episode and how Erin gave her credit for her contribution to finding the extra touches that made the decor special. I loved that orb/lamp on a stand thing she found.
  13. So this week's Lakeside retreat where they did the basement - wasn't to my taste but it did seem to fit the taste of the couple for whom they did the renovation. Of course Jenny has always been obsessed with British culture so I'm sure she was in her element. Dave did a great job on the faux telephone booth. Not sure why there was such an objection to actual bunk beds but they did utilize the space to the best of their ability. I've stayed in Air BNBs with bunks and they weren't that bad, even for my (at the time) 60 year old body (and I slept on the top bunk). Is this the couple's full-time home or just a vacation home (and if so I wonder if they will be renting it out).
  14. I don't remember the numbers but I think house #1's outside cost was significantly less than house #2 because it was in better shape plus house #2 they were adding a porch, so I don't think $70,000 was the cost. Didn't they also replace the front door (single door with sidelights into double door)?
  15. From what I recall Tzana was going to have to get licensed in Texas before she could move and get a job. Lots of medical facilities in the Houston area so hopefully finding a job will not be an issue.
  16. I had diep flap surgery this summer (due to my body rejecting my implants after a double mastectomy) and ended up with a major abdominal infection and a wound vac, so I share your experience - home health nurses and all (not to mention the PICC line skills I now have acquired). I have pictures that are way too graphic. I am glad you are doing better because that was not a fun experience.
  17. It seems like it would almost be unavoidable. Last episode with Sarah Silverman was okay but not one of my favorites. I truly was not sure whether Amy loved the renovation or was just overwhelmed. It certainly was a huge improvement over what was there before. Apparently Zooey's (not even going to try and spell her last name) childhood home, which apparently was a historical home, did burn completely and their family lost a lifetime of memories.
  18. I'm not an avid watcher or follower of all things Brown (except I love to chat here), but it appears to me that Mykelti might be somewhat of an attention seeker?
  19. Is it me or does Meri look considerably younger in that picture?
  20. Sometimes I have to think with my fingers in order to make sense of things...LOL!
  21. This was the first week that I had noticed Brooklyn and had been charmed by her so of course she got eliminated! (And Carly managed to squeak by yet another week.) Can't disagree with her leaving but still sad about it. Congrats to Micah for another week's win. I make a chocolate cake similar to his brownie with chocolate chips in it - it really does make for a fun and delicious bite to have that little extra bit of chocolate when you bite into it. Although Arial's cheese did look good I thought that was kind of ridiculously easy compared to some of the other imposters and probably would have put Piper in as top 2 just on level of difficulty alone. Loved the dance party - this is a good group of kids.
  22. I loved the scene where Mr. David was laying out the tile (which honestly I thought was a little too subtle - I could barely see the pattern but probably is much more noticeable in person) and telling Eric "If you pick this one I know you don't love me anymore" - obviously they are very comfortable with one another. My only quibble about this house is I would hate walking into a dining room (but that's a personal choice and it's not my house! I did wonder why they filled the entire sunken living room in with concrete instead of just building it up (unless now that I think about it because of the outside doors and to keep water coming in from outside which makes sense). At any rate it was a vast improvement.
  23. If this house is primarily a rental unit then bedroom size isn't that important as I suspect people who rent in that area do so for the location and outside activities. Tile floors probably make sense (although I would probably do LVP) in a rental home in a desert environment. Maybe that was what fit into her budget? I have no idea what the rental market is in Moab but I know it is a popular destination for the RV community and the offroad community.
  24. Insurance generally doesn't cover 100% of surgery. Some plans have high deductibles and some require 20% until you reach a certain amount. I was in treatment for breast cancer on a high deductible plan several years ago and had to reach a $3000 in-network copay and a $7000 out-of-network. I reached the in-network on January 15 and the out of network on April 15. I would hate to think what I would have owed if I had a 20% plan (I know that my total bill before my double mastectomy was over $100,000). As I am sure many of you know, major illnesses are no joke.
  25. Living in the pollen capital of the USA (Texas) I definitely feel you. I don't see many hardwood trees planted in the LA area so maybe not. Seems like mostly palms and fruit trees (probably stereotyping).
