Raina being killed was the DUMBEST thing I've seen on TV in awhile. I wasn't so much shocked, as disgusted. Her death was purely done for shock factor and not organic to the story. Why would the dirty cop kill her? Because she threatened that her dad would kill him? WHAT DID HE THINK KILLING TARIQ OR RAINA WAS GOING TO ACCOMPLISH?!?!?! I figured him killing the 2 idiots was his way of cleaning things up and possibly getting into Ghost's good graces. He knows Ghost isn't someone to be trifled with, so I ask again, WHY WOULD HE TRY TO KILL TARIQ OR KILL RAINA?!?!? He won't be hard to track down, so Ghost will catch him and avenge his baby's girl death. Yawn. Had to be a better way to teach Tariq a lesson, because this was beyond stupid. I see the US Attorney still hasn't learned. The previous bonehead had Angela involved in the team, despite her many conflicts of interest. And, this new bonehead gives her a promotion, despite Angela's history. She must have something on them because I can't see any agency wanting Angela anywhere near their offices because of her baggage. Tommy is about to come up. He will be "jumped in" to his family and all previous associations will be moot. Serbians won't be able to touch him. Poor Dre. Such dreams of grandeur to have them eventually trashed. Finally, councilman Tate is showing his true colors. Although, that wasn't a surprise. It will be interesting to see Tate and Ghost butt heads. Ghost just can't catch a break. He wants to be legit, but it just isn't going to happen. Oh well, better to roll with it, and do what comes naturally. BUT, that's after he avenges Raina's ridiculous death.

I thought the same thing. Coming out without a shirt is believable, but no pants in his drawers and t-shirt?!?! Poor Tariq. Trying to be something he's not and has to learn the hard way. Best to confess to Dad and deal with it before it comes back to bite you. And, also, why would Tasha be talking about her hookup with Tariq sitting right there? And, they still call him Ghost? Figure they would stop that so not to accidentally slip up. I see Angela can be devious too. Such efficient killers in prison. Well, that storyline is over, which is good. Now, there going to have to work something up to get Angela back in the mix.

Tariq, and the actor, needs redemption. He's typecast as the troubled teen and it isn't helping him. Show is carrying this story to give the kids something to do, but there has to be something else. Really tired of Tariq and his moodiness/angst. Now, he's becoming an addict/alcoholic. Maybe it would have been better if Jukebox put him out of our misery before Kanan shot her. Kids are pretty much window dressing anyway. When is the last time we even saw the youngest daughter? Oh, she is mentioned, but never seen.

Semi-automatic (one pull, one-shot) guns are readily available in gun stores. Automatic (one pull, multiple shots) guns are not. My issue isn't with the waiting period or background check. It's with the show depicting that a person can just walk into a store and buy automatic weapons, which isn't true. Now, a person can modify a semi-auto to be auto, but that's after the purchase.

Totally this. The previous guy was trying to be clever, was found out, and lost his life and eyes for his trouble. What about that had Bruce thinking that HE could get over and outsmart the cartel? The cartel puts on these demonstrations SO the replacements will know not to screw around. "Wise learn from other's mistakes, smart learn from own mistakes, stupid never learn." Bruce and co-conspirators were firmly in the stupid column. Put Rachel in the stupid column too. Running off with money that was stored in a cabin's walls, and knowing that it came from questionable people, puts a giant target on her back. For the cartels, it's not even so much about the money, but the disrespect and maintaining appearances. Her taking the money is contrived to me. More than likely, she would have left with just her stuff, leaving the money, and not looked back. Always, always, always there is a person in a criminal group that is quick tempered. Figured the cartel LT was going to be killed, due to his temper. Not usually a woman, but the rancher's wife acted without thinking. Wanted to kill the pastor and shot Del over perceived slight, despite her disparaging him. Won't be surprised when she comes to a terrible end. I don't know the FBI agent's name, and I said it in previous post, just call him Capt. Ahab. It seems that he is working off-book, with his former boyfriend covering for him. How many times before the ex gets tired and hangs him out to dry. The guy is making it personal, which is causing him to make horrible decisions. Fully expect the ex to be hurt, or killed, due to Ahab's actions. Overall, I liked the show and I will be back for season 2, if there is one. Plenty of story lines to be dealt with in the next season.

The cluelessness of the gay redneck was pretty evident when he was being turned by his FBI lover. I'm pretty sure undercover agents can't go around sleeping with their informants and expect the case to hold up. Although, it was really about the redneck not wanting anyone to know he was gay. Wanting to keep that hidden is what did him in. Also, did they not know what Marty was doing with the money? I got the impression Ruth knew he was laundering it and it was steadily disappearing. To hear them talk, they thought the full $8 million was still available for the taking. Too bad, the brothers went out the way they did. FBI agent's name should be Captain Ahab. His pursuit of Marty is causing him to make some terrible choices and it is not going to end well for him. Even if Marty is caught, there is high potential for him to walk based on the FBI agent's misdeeds. I can buy that Marty's son was able to get Tuck(sp?) to buy the guns for him. But, the one Marty's son fired was an automatic. Automatics can't be bought in gun stores or do I have that wrong? Or, if they can, isn't an extensive (approx 6 months) background check required to buy them? Show dropped the ball on that one. Daughter's character has gotten better as time has progressed. At first, intolerable, but she is more nuanced and show toned her down quite a bit.

This show does have a Breaking Bad feel to it, but it does separate itself from that show. The one thing that is irritating me is the daughter. First episode and I'm already tired of seeing the rebellious, screw-my-parents/sibling attitude. She redeems herself somewhat in the end, but if this will be her character, then the cartel kingpin can take her out first. Put her out of the audience's misery. Not sure why, but Hollywood portrays teenage girls like that too often. It's cliche and ridiculous to see. Regardless, I'm intrigued and will finish this out. Cartel kingpin is real about his business, which should make this very interesting.

This was a good episode. Conclusion of the Kanan-Jukebox-Ghost beef was well done. Jukebox took it too far. They could have killed Ghost, took the money, and left Tariq there to deal with the after effects. Killing Tariq wasn't really necessary. I give Anika all kinds of kudos on her portrayal of Jukebox. Jukebox is not a woman you would want to get on her bad side. Lot of hypocrisy being thrown around. Ghost and Tasha both get mad at each other for making moves without consulting the other. Now, they don't trust each other. Although, everything comes back to Ghost blowing up his life by getting with Angela. "If only she hadn't come in the club that night." No, her coming to the club wasn't the problem. Lots of conflict to be had and I'm all in to see it blow up.

Good that writers finally ended the farce that was the trial. With Angela's background, she should have been NOWHERE near the team prosecuting the case. And, of course, Angela only brings her suspicions to the killer and not the team lead. Good episode since things are starting to move along again. Now, just need to end the Kanan storyline too. Every time I see 50, I think why hasn't someone smoked him yet? Regardless, good episode.
-
My primary irritation with Tariq is the actor seems to play the same character (troubled teen, rebelling against parents) all the time. Wouldn't it be great if the show turned his character around, have him realize how STUPID he is acting, and be instrumental in bringing down Kanan. It could still happen, but for now, I'm sick of Tariq.
-
I said this in a previous post. Kanan does not have enough juice to be choking people out, disregarding deals that someone he wrongs doesn't just end him. Tariq storyline needs to end. It's just filler. Conflict of interest?!?! Why didn't Proctor blast the prosecution by bringing up Angela? Judge would definitely have her removed, prosecution office reported to the bar, and a mistrial would be more likely. But no, writers have to drag out this farce that anyone with any semblance of intelligence couldn't get past. Tommy playing the typical hot-head gangster. There's always one in every crew to add drama to the show.
-
The Kanan/Tariq storyline is only there to give 50-cent something to do. It adds NOTHING and could be eliminated without the show missing a beat. Good for Tariq for standing up for his sister. Bad for Tariq to still be running around with Kanan like they're friends from way back. It's about time something "good" happened for Ghost. Prosecutor is too arrogant for things not to start coming back on him. BUT, he still can't put Angela back on the case. He made a mistake with the traffic stop and the way to fix it is to put a clearly compromised/conflict-of-interest lawyer back on the team?!?! Yeah, that's not going to come back to bite him later. And, why would he do it? He has some semblance of intelligence and recognized early on that she can't be on the team. The final scene seemed silly. Not really sure why the lawyer would challenge "a man like Ghost" like that. If he recognizes Ghost for who he is, then he should be leery of the violence Ghost is willing to commit. Remember, Ghost IS on trial for shooting a federal agent. Oh you're safe while the trial is going on, but what about after? What if Ghost is one for carrying grudges and doesn't like being disrespected? Best to do the job and keep your personal feelings to yourself. Just saying.

Tariq had a great moment when he stood up to the guys in the school hallway. BUT, everything else about him is too irritating. The one thing that bugs for me is the actor plays the same troubled kid in pretty much every role I've seen him. Orange is the New Black, Barbershop 2, and now this. He may not have a extensive career thus far, but he needs to broaden his range because I see him and know exactly the role he will be playing. Also, why isn't Kanan dead? Not from the fire, but from someone just putting a bullet in his head. He is that leader that physically chastises his underlings like that won't come back on him. I can understand maintaining a certain amount of respect/reputation, but he doesn't really have anybody backing him up for him to be choking dude out at the club. Only in TV and movies do leaders kill/hurt their underlings with impunity.

Gilead is fighting too many internal conflicts to even contemplate branching out to external targets. The ones at the top are doing "well", but the rank and file are suffering. Their methods won't be effective in keeping this regime going. "Why aren't the public executions and mutilations working? People should be embracing the improvements that we've made to our society." Some (many?) of the handmaids are part of the resistance. How many Marthas are passively fighting Gilead? The commanders, and their wives, don't realize it, but they have the people in their homes that could lead to their demise. Too many abuse victims walking around, and given the right provocation, they will strike back. Gilead had a successful coup, but it won't last.

Not sure why the prisoners were fighting once the riot cops came in. Sure fire way to be "mistakenly" killed. They're prisoners and know the drill. Alarms went off and they immediately laid down on the floor. You w would think seeing riot cops storming the prison would have them do the same thing in order to reduce/eliminate injury. For the bunker 10, what good is dignity if you're dead? They should have been face down, assuming a non-threatening position so the cops wouldn't attack them. Standing there in solidarity would be almost a guaranteed beatdown and lead to all kinds of "accidents". No love for Pescatella, but him walking out like the cops knew he was one of them was monumentally stupid too. This season had some interesting points, since I do want to see how some of them wound up in prison. But mostly, it was a chore to get through. Having less episodes for this a single event would have made better storytelling. Stretching it out over 13 episodes introduced so much filler.

S05.E10: The Reverse Midas Touch
PsychoDrone replied to Cranberry's topic in Orange Is The New Black
The meth heads are so incompetent that it seems ridiculous no one overpowered them before. Too many opportunities to take the gun from them. I would have liked to have seen the gun run out of bullets and then the meth heads getting their asses kicked. -
I can see their points about conditions at the prison, but retaliating against the guards isn't helping their cause. If even one guards dies from their actions, then their cause is lost. The guard that was shot in the leg, which appeared to be in the femoral artery, should have died. Denying the one his insulin or locking them in porta-potties in the hot sun could lead to someone's death too. Peaceful protest this isn't and, once the stories are revealed, the public won't sympathize with the prisoners. I can't with Watson. She opens her mouth and stupidity ("why do you think they call it Black Friday") comes pouring out. The visit to the rich school was demoralizing, but she must have gotten over it and channeled her energy into track. She screwed herself and now everything is "whitey's" fault or because of slavery. She has some good moments, by convincing Tasha to speak, but she needs to get the chip off her shoulder.

Standing up to their abuser (Gilead), when it could lead to further or worse abuse, takes courage regardless of the catalyst. Some of them are risking punishment by helping out the rebel groups. Handmaids have done horrible things and had horrible things done to them. And, it seems the only way for them to escape is suicide. I don't like that they've taken part in executions or that they've become so accustomed to it. But, if they're finally willing to take a stand, suffer the consequences, and keep the momentum going to topple Gilead, then more power to them. I doubt any of the rebel groups wouldn't help the handmaids or reject their help because they took part in the executions.
-
Which begs the question, would they have done it if Offred had not have made the gesture of defiance? OfGlen stepped up, but she got a rifle butt to the face. Not sure how many executions OfGlen was a part, but Offred only had the one. She was still new and hasn't been exposed to everything yet. Plus, seeing her daughter may have added to her wanting to defy the regime. The handmaids are abuse victims and chose this moment to say, "Enough!" What actions they take next will be telling for their future.
-
One thing that came to mind during the stoning scene was Gilead doesn't utilize psychologists or psychiatrists. I think any head shrink could have told them having the handmaids kill one of their own was a bad idea. Having the handmaids kill a guy they were told was a rapist was one thing. But, to have them kill one of their sisters, whom they all would know the circumstances that drove her actions, wasn't thought out very well. Now, Gilead has a dilemma. They have to punish the handmaids, but it has to be done in a way that keeps them in line and doesn't cause them to outright revolt. Regardless, the handmaids have shown that they will stick together and are an army as was stated by Offred. I get the feeling Gilead is in a precarious state (economy, world's view of regime, constant uprisings, etc) and having handmaids fighting back en masse doesn't help their cause. The rebellion is brewing and the wrong action could cause it to boil over. Good finale and I'm interested to see how season 2 plays out.

Introducing Mark and Jane is a ploy to keep the series going longer than necessary. Both appeared out of nowhere. Ready for the House of Cards to fall and I think it will be epic. At least, it better be. Underwoods deserve to go out in a blaze of glory.
-
Still makes no sense. Moretti is crazy, plain and simple. Her husband's death caused a psychotic break. Luring him into the bedroom, tying him up, and torturing would have made sense. Sleeping with him to eventually tell him that she hates him, is out-of-this-world bonkers. How long would she have kept up the charade? Doug just happened to tell her. Doug could have remained morally bankrupt and kept it going forever. If she would have stopped before he told her, so what? From the beginning, he knew he was wrong for getting with her.

Dear White People - General Discussion
PsychoDrone replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Dear White People
Black student body blaming Gabe for the chain of events is ridiculous. Who cares who called the cops? Let's keep the focus on the real problem, which is the racist cop that pulled the gun on Reggie. I feel for Reggie, but he is losing sympathy since he's using this to drive a wedge and get with Sam. -
After watching this, why trust anyone? These people don't keep their promises, thinking they're untouchable. Claire is now beholden to Mark Usher. Who doesn't believe that Mark has that body stashed somewhere for later use? He kept the Romero gang-rape info back from Underwoods until he needed it. In the digital age, can anyone ever be sure that there aren't copies of anything lying around? This isn't the past where destroying photo negatives ensured the pictures were destroyed. Leann isn't dead AND she may have taken a lesson from Aidan by keeping some insurance. Not hard to make copies, store it to a usb drive, and send to the press or hammerschmidt. Now Frank will be gunning for Claire. I think season 6 will be the last one and both Claire and Frank will fall. Claire will screw up, just like she did when she was an ambassador. She ended this season by saying, "My turn!!" Well, if you think back over previous seasons, she's not that great. She's always had Francis. Without him, circumstances will be too much and the House of Cards will finally come crashing down.
-
If I'm remembering it correctly, the Clean Water Initiative was an organization Claire set up for the Underwoods to use to get ahead in DC. Once it outlived its usefulness, then she got rid of it and never looked back. Although, contrary to that, Claire tanked a vote that Francis wanted because it conflicted with her organization. Writers taking some liberties with the widow Moretti. Only reason for her to do that would be she is completely nuts. In her twisted brain, she is getting back at Doug for "killing" her husband. Not sure if too many, if any, women are sleeping with guys they hate to get back at them though. Yeah, that will show them!!!
