  1. The resolution was so mundane. Cleaning ladies took revenge on the scientists for killing Annie. Ok, but there are some issues with that. Did all the scientists they condemned to die in the ice take part in Annie's death/coverup? Were they all working at Tsalal when Annie was killed? Some of them could have started later in the years since her death. Some of them may not have known about the extent of the pollution/corruption with Silver Sky. Some time after Annie's murder, employer: "You are being hired for this revolutionary project with super cures, but it is in Alaska". Clueless scientist(s) hired after the murder: "Wow, sign me up. I could be instrumental in finding cures for the ills of mankind. My work could be the reason I win a Nobel prize." Cleaning ladies storm the facility. Clueless scientist(s) again: "Whoa, what the hell is going on? Why are these women pointing guns at us, taking our clothes, and effectively killing us by making us walk naked in a blizzard?!?!" Vigilante justice, with potential for innocent bystanders, and they didn't get all of them (Clark). I guess we're supposed to assume, and know, all the scientists were guilty.
  2. This show was just plain ridiculous. It started off alright, but went off the rails by episode four. There were TOO many twists that amounted to nothing. Once the Brannock's discovered the tunnel, THAT is all the show should have been about. The tunnels answer how the "Watcher", and Jasper, got into your house repeatedly and undetected. A throwaway line to Detective Chamberland of "I boarded it up" makes absolutely no sense. Forget about the cops, since they won't help you. If they were smart, they could have set a trap and caught Graff, or whomever, coming through the tunnels. Or, get a team, hang lights, and chart out the tunnels. In this age of security cameras, why wasn't any cameras set up to watch the mailbox? The letters didn't have postmarks, which means someone hand delivered them. That would have been easy to catch. Wouldn't take long to figure out it was Jasper and pigtails doing it all. The show ends with "Mystery is still unsolved." Yes, the real-life mystery is unsolved but, as far as this show, it was the Preservation Society. No, the show didn't state it, but that is the best explanation for this trash series. Everything else is fluff to fill in the gaps and keep us "in suspense". This was bad horror movie stupidity. Watching the real life story on Buzzfeed was interesting. Having the show writers attempt to fill in the gaps of the Watcher was very poorly done.
  3. Not a bad series. I didn't start watching until a couple of fans of the series were raving about it. By this point, all of the episodes were available so I could binge it. IMO, not as good as Mandalorian, but better than Kenobi or Book of Boba Fett. Those series were so bad, not really a difficult feat to accomplish. Similar to any prequel series, much of the suspense is gone. We all know Cassian is going to survive, so the "cliffhanger" ending is just silly. Lots of good characters. Dedra is very good as the villain. Infinitely better than the inquisitor in Kenobi. My one complaint is, are humans really cheaper, and easier to replace, than using droids to build the Death Star part? Automation ensures accuracy, high production rates, and 24/7 work times. Droids may require maintenance, but not to the level of people. Droids don't have strokes, need breaks, and the Empire wouldn't have to worry about punishments, revolutions, or break outs. I am looking forward to Season 2. It's too bad the series isn't doing better, but Lucasfilm, or actually Kathleen Kennedy, has burned the fans so much that people have given up on Star Wars. Once she is gone, and a true Star Wars fan takes over, then it can return to popularity.
  4. Watching a show, it is only natural to suspend disbelief. But, in that suspension things have to make sense. In the DCEU and MCU, we all know there aren't any superheroes in real life, but even the things they do have to make sense with our real world expectations. The legalities of the events happening with Serena and the Wheelers makes no sense because the writers have not truly defined the Wheeler's status. Are they Canadians, Gileadeans (if that is what a person from Gilead is called), or what? Why would Wheeler be able to do what he is doing in No Man's Land with impunity? Why would Mrs Wheeler have ANY say in how the baby is raised when the mother is right there? Serena hasn't been ruled unfit. And, I doubt she would be ruled unfit considering the events she had to endure. Any family lawyer would paint her as a saint doing what is necessary to protect her child. Which would carry even more weight, due to how HARD it is for women to reproduce in this universe. Serena would follow June's example and give an impassioned speech about her treatment in the Wheeler home and that would be it. I hate that I'm advocating for Serena, but right is right. The writers are hacks. They were given an interesting premise and, once the original story was exhausted, their true abilities have been shown as lacking. I'm watching it, but it is just sad that it isn't any better.
  5. My wife and I wonder the same thing. Earlier season, Fred said, "Privileges would only apply to a few." or something like that. Privileges would really only apply to white males. Although, show Gilead is more 'politically correct' and has minority commanders and handmaids. Show should have went all in and stuck with the white supremacy angle. No way I buy that minorities would be commanders and handmaids. Back to women, yes, the female population should be significantly reduced in Gilead. Even the commander's wives should be defecting in large numbers once they experienced the repression of Gilead. Many of the wives, aunts, and Marthas are educated women. Marthas would have a hard time, but wives and aunts should be leaving their posts. Canada is similar to the US, and lots of those women would be able to resume the careers/lives they had pre-Gilead. I mean, what does Gilead do for entertainment/leisure? I'm betting a better life could be had in any of the other western countries. Finally, what about the Gilead sympathizers in Canada? Pretty sure, Gilead wouldn't object to people, especially women, wanting to move there. So, why don't they immigrate to Gilead? What is stopping them? In current times, you hear about some crazy person wanting to join the Taliban or other designated country. But, we don't see or hear women praising places like Iraq or Saudi Arabia. If we did, people would tell them to move there. The world knows how Gilead works. If they TRULY believed in it, then they should move there. Show should address this.
  6. Yes, the show has gone way beyond the original story line of the books. I didn't read the original book, but it is real obvious that the writers ran out of material and are making it up as they go along. There is no real sense how Gilead's government works. How many commanders are there? Is there a head commander, like the Pope? How are decisions made? The show focuses on one area/city, but what about the rest of the continental US? We, as viewers, know about the border/no-mans land, the colonies, and Boston. Also, rebels fighting. That's it. No world building, but that is because the writers have no idea how Gilead works. What is Gilead's standing in the world? There are hints, but nothing definite. This episode we find out that repressive regimes, like North Korea and China, applaud them. Wow, what an endorsement! With what we know, Gilead should have collapsed a long time ago. No idea how it sustains itself.
  7. This episode was ridiculous and predictable. Why is America/Tuello telling June and Luke ALL the details about the secret mission? Why are June and Luke allowed to be in the operations room for the secret mission? Why would the families be told anything about the secret mission? I mean, seriously, WTF?!?!? If anything, the mission failed because the secret mission wasn't all that secret. And, who didn't guess that the commander leading the mission wasn't going to be killed. It's no wonder America (Alaska and Hawaii) can't accomplish anything. The "leaders" are idiots. Another thing about the mission. Why are they having a vigil for the soldiers on the mission? This was an embarrassment and supposedly a secret. Tuello would have met with the families of the killed soldiers privately and offered his condolences. Certainly wouldn't have been an announcement of the fallen soldiers in public for all to see. The show really wants us to feel sorry for Serena. Could they make Mrs. Wheeler look and act any more crazy? She's way over the top. Serena was much more effective when tormenting June than Wheeler is lording over Serena. Regardless, karma has come for Serena and I have no sympathy for her. Just don't hurt the baby. Lawrence is manipulating it all. He is manipulating June, Nick, other commanders, America, everybody. If he isn't directly manipulating things, then he certainly knows how to turn things in his favor. I felt he orchestrated the whole mission with America to bring June to New Bethlehem. Maybe that's a little much, but he knows how to play on Nick and June's emotions. Will Putnam be the one that initiates his downfall? Maybe, but doubtful.
  8. I knew one of the main characters was going to die, just wasn't sure which one. I'm fine with it being Ruth. Her plot armor lasted until the end. She, as well as Darlene, should have died when the union mob boss sought retaliation for his son getting his junk blown off by Darlene. It could have been one of the Byrdes, but oh well. Fade to black ending was stupid on The Sopranos and it is stupid here. Having the PI reappear was all kinds of dumb. For some one that was a good cop, he was real stupid. He broke into their house, no warrant, to get evidence that would immediately be thrown out and ruin any case against the Byrdes. Right, it would ruin their reputation, but that wouldn't last. How easy would it be for them to discredit him and say he held a grudge? Better to never have brought him back. Overall, I liked Ozark. Lots of twists and turns. Beyond that idiotic ending, I am fine with it. Byrdes are "out", but not really as they're still on the FBI and cartel's radar. They will forever be looking over their shoulder. Well, onward to the next show.
  9. This show is stupid. Chuck is Captain Ahab and not in an interesting way. He is willing to sacrifice everything in his pursuit of the Moby Dick whale that is Mike Prince. But, oh wait, it was all a ruse because Dave saw through it all and Chuck will return to fight another day. Now, they BOTH will be Captain Ahab. The funny thing is, how many people are really rooting for Chuck and Dave? I mean really. Not a Mike Prince fan, but Chuck demonstrates a level of moral superiority where you want to see him fail. Chuck's plot armor is strong and the only reason it played out with the "twist" is because the story demanded it. The show has jumped the shark. So what, they're going to do ANOTHER season of Chuck trying to outmaneuver and bring down a rich guy? Six seasons and he still hasn't been successful. Lost a marriage, a best friend (which he got back, which doesn't make sense), lost his job as AG, and his freedom (which should have been the end). Mike Prince outplayed Axe in one season. But, wait, next season will be different. Alright, Don Quixote. Keep tilting at those windmills. At this point, even if Chuck "wins" next season, it won't be believable. Regardless, I'm done. i won't be back next season.
  10. Does anyone REALLY care how Prince got the Olympics to New York? Who cares?!?! Your average, everyday person has NO idea how host cities are chosen. And, if you told them, bribery was involved, I'm betting they wouldn't be surprised or care. Host city residents' lives are screwed up for 2-3 weeks and then the Olympics are over and move on. Chuck going on this crusade is just stupid. "I have to make sure this billionaire doesn't get what he wants, in the name of helping the rank and file." Prince wasn't the only one invested in the Olympics coming to NY. Chuck screwing this up affects many others and he SHOULD suffer for it. He won't and this show is just treading water. It's not even interesting anymore. The actor that played Axe was smart in leaving this dumpster fire.
  11. I do get that conflict is the point, but too much and it becomes stale. "Marty and Wendy encounter YET another problem. Let's see how they get out of this!" Notice they did not show us how Ruth talked those guys into selling her the drugs back. Dude was on the verge of shooting her, cutaway, and now she is dragging the drugs down the driveway. Murphy's law isn't an occasional occurrence, it's a rule on this show.
  12. Looking forward to see how this season plays out. I do have to say one thing. The IT/computer guy is a minor character, and he shows up minimally, but he looks absolutely ridiculous with that mustache. It may be the point, but he looks like a teenager trying to make himself seem older or distinguished. He's practically a stereotype and I can't take him seriously.
  13. Mya is an idiot. How was she even able to coordinate that action with Navarro and none of her superiors know about it? Regardless, she wrecked her career, and any future federal positions in law enforcement, and Navarro still gets away AND the FBI gets a deal for twice as long. Of course, she probably doesn't know that, but I'm sure her superior will tell her just before she is fired and walked out of the building. Her ego didn't like being called righteous and will soon to be unemployed. Well, guess she and the PI can go into business together. Darlene had long outlived her 'sell-by' date. She should have been killed couple of seasons ago. Poor Wyatt. Simping should not have cost him his life. He and Darlene can go on those walks in the afterlife now. Javier is not long for this world. Navarro is much more calculating and has his henchman do the wet work. Javier kills people and thinks he is untouchable. He doesn't even have backup when he travels around town. Ruth will be his downfall and it shouldn't happen any other way. Good seven episodes. Hopefully, Jonah will move past his petulance. I'm tired of seeing it. The close call of possibly going to jail, even if orchestrated by Wendy, should have shaken some sense into him, but he's still acting stupid.
  14. Filmed in downtown Atlanta. I used to work at the 191 Peachtree building that was shown in the scene with the Byrdes and that couple. Surreal seeing that street and recognizing it as Atlanta, when the show is selling it as Chicago.
  15. Jonah will come around. After all, he's only "14". I know, I know, the show can't account for the actor growing. Actually, Charlotte and Jonah seem way older than their years. Charlotte is drinking with her parents and Javier. Jonah clearly looks and acts, current behavior aside, older than 14. Guess being part of a criminal family really ages kids. I do like this show. BUT, I feel it pushes the drama too much. Nothing seems to go right, too often. How many times do we have to see them encounter a problem and say, "Don't worry. We'll fix it." They scramble, cajole, and ultimately work it out until the next several fires pop up. It's practically cliche at this point. All the stuff Darlene has done and it's a heart attack that does her in?!?! Not likely. Wendy is a beast. Darlene is crazy, but Wendy is controlled fury. Darlene thought she was doing the intimidating, but Wendy let the mask slip and Darlene saw Wendy's Hyde persona. Underestimate Wendy at your own peril.
  16. Javier is a pretender. He wants to be his uncle so bad, but he doesn't have the experience, patience, or foresight to pull things off. We got a clear picture of his character, when he blamed Marty for his own stupidity. The encounter with the sheriff could have played out any number of ways with the sheriff walking away unharmed. Won't be long before Javier is in an untenable situation of his own making. Poor Maya. She dances in the gray area and thinks she still has control. She berated her colleague, but now her ambition is going to get ahead of her. So much to lose. Well, the saying is so true, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions.", and Maya will pay the cost. Just don't hurt the BABY!!! I love it, "Those two are dating?" Yes, hipster heroin guy, that's a question we all ask and shudder behind the implications. Please, no more sex scenes between them two. In this case, telling is more than enough. We don't need the show part of the equation.
  17. The plot armor is strong on Darlene. I don't care what anyone says, a guy gets his junk blown off by a rival and there WILL be retaliation. Darlene should be dead, but I at least expected some kind of damage to have been done to her person. Well, if she and her former husband, that she killed, could survive a hit (by the very efficient cartel hitman, which was also unbelieveable), then anything is possible. I see Charlotte and Jonah have clearly switched roles. In the beginning, Charlotte was the insufferable one. I couldn't stand how she was portrayed. Now, she's the reasonable one and I've grown to dislike Jonah. He just comes across as a petulant child, which I guess is the point, but doesn't make it any more enjoyable to watch. Definitely, looking forward to how all this plays out. Bring it on!!
  18. Putting the family in a one-bedroom suite is drama for drama's sake. It's contrived and doesn't make sense. I make way less money than a CFO and have been getting suites, with multiple bedrooms for my family, in hotels that are nowhere near as expensive as the one they're staying in. Even when my boys were small, and we stayed in one room, they never slept in a pull-out sofa. I don't know what it is, but for some reason it's a trend that girls/daughters on shows are way more insufferable than not. It's tiresome to see. Even the brother is a caricature. The daughter on Ozark was like this, but she got better as the series went on. Of course, we're supposed to hand-wave because she's rich and entitled, but still. And, screw the friend. Someone said it upthread, as a guest on this family's vacation, she needs to have a much better attitude. Although, she probably tags along a lot, so figure she's acting like she normally acts. I'm hoping this gets better or there is some kind of twist that will present itself. As it stands now, it's contrived drama set pieces that aren't very believable.
  19. This show is insufferable and really stupid. I'm pretty much hate watching it just so I can get to the end. Things happen to further the plot, or length of the show, without any real explanation. How did they find June? I thought they might touch on it, but no. A one-liner about drones, which was mentioned by June when they got to the farm would have answered that. The plot dictated that she be captured again, so she was captured without explanation. Also, thought they wouldn't mention the aftermath at the Jezebel's. They did, but what happened to the prostitutes? Who would Gilead blame for the death and sickness of all those Commanders? That place would have been burned to the ground, with every prostitute on the wall. But, again no real explanation. June's torturer tries to come across as so smart. Show being true to itself, it had to include torture porn. Finding the handmaids would have been important and time was of the essence. So, why would the Lieutenant waste all that time on torture? I said from the beginning, use Hannah. Problem solved in no time. Of course, show had to pad out the episode. Also, why would the handmaids still be at the safe house? They were on the run and June wasn't there. Alma, in particular, seemed very smart. You would think they would have tried to get out of there as quickly as possible, figuring that June was compromised and reveal their location. I have to admit that keeping the handmaids around for the breeding camp, instead of killing them, made sense. Although, in the show's true fashion it crafted a final scene that was just dumb. Of course, June had to escape again. And, she ruins it by trying to hurt Lydia. They all could have made it. The Guardian shooting at them, killing one, didn't make sense. He knew the handmaid's purpose, so keeping them alive was paramount. If anything, they should have had Lydia jump him to stop him from shooting at them. Couldn't have that though. Show dictates that handmaids must die, and plot armor June survives, so that's what happened. At least have Alma and Janine survive. The others were pretty much fodder, but Alma had potential as a character.
  20. I binge-watched the three seasons and the reduction in quality of each season is jarring. I notice this show has a way of just dropping story lines. End of 1st season, what happened to the investigation of crooked cop's death? The pursuit of Otis and flipping Brandon at the end of season 2 went nowhere. Of course, I know what happened there, but that whole story line was dropped. The two detectives were never even seen in season 3. No explanation for Kevin's Mom's new girlfriend. No explanation for Brandon's death. After Miss Ethel was beat, she was on the verge of being evicted. Finally, she was, but I think the writers had forgot all about it and then remembered to work it in. I have to say, I couldn't stand Ronnie. Him going to jail was the best thing, but then he got out. As much as I disliked him, killing him off like that was just dumb. He could have ridden off into the sunset and that would have been it. But, oh no, YEARS later, random shooter is going to make him pay for Coogie's death. If anything, he should have been shot when he got out of jail. That woman that spit in Ronnie's face didn't wait until years later to do it. Otis had some good moments, but his character had some cringe inducing moments too. He told Reg, "When you see me on the street, you don't know me." But, then he's traveling to Reg's house to chastise him, in OPEN DAYLIGHT, with a chaffeur and nice car. Also, having his gang members delivering his pizzas. Plus, his restaurant managers are openly acting like thugs. So much for keeping a low profile. A blind man could see he was dirty. The one thing that had me screaming at the TV was Keisha's first escape attempt. That was straight horror movie stupidity. Of course, she couldn't escape because the show had to drag out that STUPID story line even longer. How did the guy get Keisha in the first place? Ronnie sees her sitting at the bus stop, barely anytime passes, and she's gone. Since she was wearing the track suit during her abduction, it would have made more sense if it was the coach back for revenge. Yet, it was some random guy that we never saw before. Glad she finally escaped, but even the way that was handled was beyond stupid. Redemption arc #100 for Ronnie to the rescue. And, of course, she winds up pregnant and decides to keep it. Funny how no one even mentions putting the baby up for adoption. Abortion or keeping it aren't the only options. Finally, the kids were the best part of the show. The kids were consistent in their characterization. Jake was irritating. Papa was the voice of reason and wise beyond his years. And, Kevin was the glue that held them together. Kevin and Keisha played well as siblings, especially since they're real brother and sister. Not true, but they look so much alike and had the same mannerisms, that it's hard not to believe they're not related. Season 3 was an obvious drop in quality for the show. I may come back for season 4, but if it continues to follow its downward trend in quality, I won't last long.
  21. All this "AJ" drama is easy to predict. I put that in quotes because AJ isn't the real AJ. The real AJ is the one that is dead and showed up on the Greenleaf estate at last season's finale. The AJs were in prison together and worked up a scheme to defraud Grace. Once fake-AJ found out about real-AJ's death, then fake-AJ felt guilty and tried suicide. Remember, fake-AJ asked for money from Grace repeatedly and, we now know, he did steal the drugs. Presumably, for his treatment. This last episode ended before he could give the full reason why he tried to kill himself. And, it isn't because he was raped in prison and contracted HIV. That reasoning doesn't make sense. He said that to garner sympathy before he tells Grace about the fraud. Finally, Jacob calls Kerissa's bluff. The will is not solid evidence of wrongdoing. She's playing it up, but she stands to lose significantly. Mac will be behind it all, totally independent of the Bishop and Lady Mae. Oh, and Basie isn't dead. No body, no death. He faked his death to get the heat off of him.
  22. Condola being pregnant is so contrived and tired. So, why do it? Also, love that men are vilified for not having the proper reaction when they find out the woman is pregnant. What is her reaction when she finds out? Unless it's planned, I doubt she is happy about it either. Last thing, I wonder is could Condola have planned this? She did say she wasn't ready with her ex-husband, and she wanted to have kids. Clock is ticking, good brother comes along, not that far-fetched to believe since she said she is not really concerned about Lawrence being involved. Run away Andrew, as fast as you can!!! Molly really needs to put in the work with her therapist to figure out why she is so controlling. He's right, it shouldn't be this hard. And, the relationship has barely started. Post-partum seemed tacked on. I thought there was going to be a bigger payoff on that. That could have been left out, or shortened, to tell us about LATOYA!!! You can't tease a whole season of "Looking for Latoya", mention a reunion show, and leave the audience without closure.
  23. This show sucks. Of course, the "good guy with the gun" was inept. What's the point of the therapy? Does anyone really care about Dean, either? We want to see believable (meaning minimal suspension of disbelief) suburban women dipping their toes into crime and the pitfalls that entails. The first season pulled me in, but now my interest has waned significantly. Rio cleaning out the house made no sense. Why would he do that? The object of punishing someone is to not punish oneself. That's a lot of work to make a point. Plus, it puts him at risk. Neighbors would notice the activity at the house. A gun to all their domes would have been just as effective. Or, threatening their families. This show wants to be non-network level quality (think Breaking Bad or Ozark), but it isn't even in the same universe. It contrives events and insults the audience. I will finish the season (which will be shortened due to Wuhan), but I will be on to something else.
  24. I can't stand characters like Darlene. There is no reason that she wouldn't be dead already. The Snells were fine in their little corner (Ozark), but once they drew the attention of the Mexican cartel and KC mob, it's over. She's the reason the cartel rep was killed and her and Jacob tried to hide it. She spiked the cartel's heroin shipment. She cut Jonah's hair (big no-no messing with connected people's kids, ask Ben). She manipulated getting custody of the preacher's kid. And now she shot off the junk of the son of the head of the KC mob. I don't include Jacob's death because that's internal. Darlene has ownership in the casino with no backing from anyone. She's just re-starting up her heroin business, which will bring her in conflict with the cartel AGAIN. She has men, but they're not family, so how long would they stick by her? The cops definitely won't shed any tears over hear death. Why would the KC mob go into business with her? They can't let what she did go unanswered. It's not a good look. And, Ruth needs to get as far away from Darlene as possible. Without Marty's protection, Jr will absolutely blame her for Darlene's actions. The first episode of next season should be Darlene being killed in a very public way. End of her Story. That's how it should go, but it will be contrived to have Darlene stick around.
  25. Helen made herself expendable. Despite Marty's failings, he has proven to be very valuable. Initially, laundering the money in the Ozark, then getting the casino established proved his worth. Wendy pitching the legitimacy angle to Navarro also proved their worth. Helen was right in her understanding of Navarro's moods, but she seriously misjudged on the last one. Although, she had no way of knowing the Byrde's did an end run around her. Her ambition exceeded her station and she paid the price. Darlene, Darlene, Darlene. With that kind of retaliation, NO WAY she should have made it to the end of this episode. Having Frank Jr beat to a pulp and winding up in the hospital, OK. Blow off his junk and all bets are off. Ruth is fair game too since she isn't with the Byrde's anymore. Cut off the head (Darlene) and her empire is over. She's getting a percentage of the casino, but she doesn't have the cartel backing her. As much as she is out in the open, killing her would be too easy. Last season, she and her husband only survived the previous hit because the plot called for it. I fully thought when Wyatt and Ruth were overlooking the poppy fields someone was going to shoot Darlene in the head. Her end is not going to be pretty. Ben had some excellent scenes, but I was ready for him to be gone. Regardless of how Ruth feels, SHE was the catalyst that led to Ben's death. And, it's not like she didn't see that Ben was a ticking time bomb. Wendy had it right when she yelled at Ruth about not knowing the full scope of Ben's psychosis. Like the Byrde children, especially Charlotte. She was the voice of reason, on more the one occasion, and not the petulant teenager as many shows write teenage girls. The kids didn't play as big a role, but they were effective in what they were given.
