  1. Nurie isn't wearing her engagement or wedding rings. Someone might think she's a *GASP* unwed mother who enticed a god-fearing man and gave him unrighteous thoughts!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. People over 40 are irrelevant? Seriously? I don't see anything wrong with people using their phones during a rehearsal. It's just a rehearsal -- not a funeral.
  3. I think with Timmy, it's the bleached blond hair and dark eyebrows, and the fact that he reminds me so much of Kiefer Sutherland in Lost Boys, a role that has always upset me and freaked me out.
  4. Ew. Poor Jana. The creepiest of all Rodriguii males except David.
  5. Is the barefoot one Joy? Abbie's looks like a "hurry up and get it over with" expression, to me. I don't blame her. Weddings must get pretty dull when there's so many.
  6. Sounds like Gosselin 2.0. Let me guess, they used fertility treatments but then "left it up to gawd."
  7. What's their backstory? Khate and Jawn didn't look like such awful parents at the beginning. Neither did the Duggars...
  8. I forgot about Jackson. And his birth was on the first special I watched. I preemptively submit "I Forgot About Jackson...and Random Girl's Name" as his thread title when the inevitable courtship/engagement/marriage happens in the next few years.
  9. Is that the same family that whitened their elementary school-age kids' teeth? They have a "reality" show?
  10. Nah, it'll be "The Lonely J Club: Jana," for another two years until Johannah is added.
  11. The kid in green looks like his left hand is trying to correct a wedgie.
  12. Very much so. Along the same lines, Jill came from an environment where bodies were absolutely considered shameful and something to hide. Hell, her craven, adult mother had to whisper the word underwear because she found it so embarrassing. I can absolutely see Jill being humiliated that everyone knew she was a sex abuse victim because it meant everyone knew 1. She had a body; 2. Her body had been violated; and 3. By her own brother no less. And that leaves out the fact that Jill no doubt blamed herself. I have never gotten over being ashamed of my body and I think it's largely because of my own history as a molestation victim. And I didn't come from a fundie background, nor was my brother my victimizer (he wasn't alive the first time and he was an infant the second). I hope all this made sense.
  13. I'm pretty sure Derick and Jill had vastly different ideas of what missionary work actually constitutes.
  14. My point is that he's technically correct or close to it. Derick is a literalist as well as stubborn.
  15. He's not far off. Only a small percentage of the world's population has taken even one college class*. If Derick thinks or thought that Jill's online "midwifery" thing counted as college, he was correct that she had "more college" than most of us. Of course, nobody with a working brain thinks her education was the same as real college, but that's a different topic altogether. *The figure my first-ever college professor gave us on my first day of college was that only two percent of the world has taken a college class. I will spend some time with Google later to see if the stats are still accurate. I don't have time right now.
  16. There are plenty of overweight or obese people who don't have and never get diabetes, just as there as plenty of not-overweight or obese people who get type 2. It has a lot to do with genetics. My sister is morbidly obese and not diabetic. Topic: The Rod kids are getting past their sell-by dates. Jilly better get to selling if she doesn't want to end up with a bunch of old maids.
  17. I know several people who had arranged marriages. The first couple I'm thinking of has been married 21 years. She is Albanian and Muslim; he is American and Christian. He went to Albania to meet her knowing she had no choice but to marry him if her family told her to. They seem happy. The other couple is Chaldean. Their marriage was arranged while she was here and he was in Syria, where they married. I believe they're also cousins -- her mother, who worked for me, said so before she realized cousin marriage is taboo here. They have a couple kids and also seem happy. I'm quite sure that a lot of "our" cultural things seem FUBAR to them. Topic: Is anyone taking bets on whether the infamous tin man dress and shiny gray suit will reappear for this wedding?
  18. Their entire religion is a fairy tale, but it's the *right kind* of fairy tale. The controlling, mean-spirited, domineering kind. Maybe they'll show the wedding in three years and pretend it just happened, since a courtship for a barely legal kid was more palatable than a wedding. WTFK.
  19. All this was well after the show jumped the shark, but I can say for sure all states regulate driving privileges for people with certain medical conditions. Some states make it mandatory for doctors to report, some do not. For instance, the state of Illinois does not require doctors to report patients with epilepsy; California does. Illinois, surprisingly, doesn't even have a set period during which patients must be seizure-free before driving again. https://www.epilepsy.com/driving-laws/2008871 I have epilepsy, and this is something I've had to spend a lot of time thinking about.
  20. I think his age has a lot to do with it. Not only is he 18, he looks younger. Nobody in their right mind thinks it's cool to marry off a kid who looks like he doesn't even shave yet.
