Replying in the Speculation Only Thread
-
Since we are shown Dean had clear murderous intent a few episodes later (he screams for Death to kill Castiel) I think it is reasonable to assume Dean was steeling himself up to kill Cas at that point.
-
I was just about to ask where you heard that spec from @auntvi because I’ve never heard it before. Personally, I don’t believe that spec for a minute. Putting aside the demeaning aspect of it @catrox14 mentioned Singer would have to be an idiot if he thinks he can replace Jared/Sam with Misha/Cas and I say that as a major Cas fan.

I think I'm more forgiving of Claire's behaviour than most during the arrival scene. Yes, there was initial bratiness but I think a part of it was genuine hurt, which is unfair but emotions aren't always logical. However, she did quickly state that she was the one who left and thus Jody using her room for storage was fair. IIRC she never complained about it again suggesting her words were legit.

Aside from the first billing what about Jared's behaviour in interview, con footage etc strikes you as giving the impression he's more practical than Jensen? Sorry, I'm not trying to attack your opinion or act as an overly defensive Jared fan. I'm honestly just curious because of how much Jared has spoken recently of his desire to leave acting behind post SN :)
-
What makes you think it wouldn't work in the opposite direction? IMO from what we've seen Jensen is the more ambitious and committed to the field of entertainment. He's the one who has chosen to direct multiple episodes of the show presumably to see the world of television from a whole new angle and add to his resume. Jensen is also the one who has been known to have talks with big studios such as Marvel. While for a long time now, particularly in the past year, Jared has spoken of how he doesn't intend to act full time once the show ends and would be happy to just become one of those actors who makes the odd guest appearance when the itch to act for a bit strike. So what makes you think he'd be more likely to continue without Jensen when Jensen is the one who seems more committed to the business? Just to be clear in order to avoid misunderstandings. While there are times the descriptor 'ambitious' can be used as a negative one that is not my intent in this post. There is nothing wrong with possessing a healthy dose of ambition and drive :)

Main take from the When the Levee Breaks Commentary - Sera Gamble thought figuring out how to portray Sam’s detox was one of the more fun parts of writing this episode. -The panic room is actually a lot smaller than it looks on film. -Mary represents the voice of the drug. The demon blood wants Sam to continue consuming it. -Sera thinks Jared is good at finding the ‘morality’ (from Sam’s skewed point of view) when Sam is making these questionable choices and thus making Sam more sympathetic. - Sera Gamble is the one who made Dean into a Trekkie. Personally, I’m disappointed Gamble and Singer didn’t discuss the decision to have Cas free Sam from the panic room and her thoughts as the writer on that. Instead most of that scene is spent discussing more technical issues. Main take from the Lucifer Rising commentary - Kripke ended up directing this episode because it was originally a Kim Manners episode but unfortunately he passed away :( - He tried to channel Kim in his direction for example close ups that close off at the forehead. - Eric loves the speech from Bobby and that he isn’t afraid to get Dean out of it when he’s behaving like a wussy cus he can’t use the other word that sounds like wussy. - Jared and Jensen are not only amazing actors, but they’ve great technical skills. It makes editing so much easier than it would with actors who lack these skills. - It was Ben Edlund and Kripke who came up with the idea that Lucifer was the one who originated the entire demonic conspiracy. In fact large parts of that episode can be credited to Edlund. It was his idea for Cas to take Dean to Chuck’s after they break out of the green room. - Kripke credits the success of the angel storyline to Misha and what he brought to the role of Cas. He also liked Genevieve and feels she brought colour and complexity to the role of Ruby. Although us fans are much too harsh on her. Her final scene is his favourite Ruby scene of the two years she spent as part of the show. - He sees the scene where Dean confronts Cas as somewhat of a redemptive one for Dean (not sure the word redemption really fits the context of what he’s saying). It’s a contrast between Dean earlier wishing he could be like an angel as the pain of his hell memories were too much while here he is ready to embrace the pain and prefers it to some perfect angelic paradise. - Phil Scriggia directed the scene where Cas frees Dean from the green room as they were way over time and budget. - They knew Ruby was going to be evil from the moment she was introduced all the way back in The Magnificent Seven!

I read somewhere, probably Jess’ spoiler sheet over on tumblr, that they dropped the train idea due to cost and the filming constraints of filming on a moving train.

I replied in more detail about what I meant in the all episodes thread. The point I was trying to make is that if they’re willing to have a hunter veteran with more than a decade of experience suddenly need Sam and dean’s help with a run of the mill ghost hunt then I don’t find it hard to buy Donna will suddenly need their help. Even if strictly speaking she shouldn’t need it at this point in her hunter journey.

Taken from the spoilers thread. Moving here because I am getting into general show discussion. IMO there are reasonable and unreasonable ways of handling this. For instance last season Wally told the boys he called them in because he was dealing with a demon and that was way above the pay grade of the creature he dealt with. That to me is a reasonable example of other hunters reaching out for help because the show has always established that Demons are tough to deal with and most hunters aren’t as exposed to them as Sam and Dean become. On the other hand, I find it hard to buy that a seasoned hunter can’t even deal with a simple ghost hunt and would be killed for making as rookie a mistake as entering hostile Territory without the appropriate weaponry. So basically my point is that yes the boys are the main characters and can help/save other hunters, but if you’re gonna kill then off at least do so in a manner that doesn’t make them look like idiots and make the viewer wonder “geese how did they last twenty years?” ETA: Yes, I’m aware Wallys story wasn’t entirely true and it was actually Mary who wanted the boy’s help. However, if he had been telling the truth I would have found that an acceptable example of a seasoned hunter still needing help from them.

I’m going to reply to you in All Episodes thread. I’ll move it Back here if necessary later in the discussion :)

Honestly, it’s a plot contrivance due to IRL logistics. They wanted another episode to explore Donna’s psyche and they weren’t going to follow the WS backdoor with another Jody/Donna heavy episode so she calls Sam and Dean. An unpopular opinion of mine is for all the complaints of dumbing Sam and Dean down to prop others up the show also does the reverse. Several times over the course of the shows history they’ve introduced badass hunters who we are told have had years of experience only to kill them off in a manner unbefitting of such a history. Like Annie from Of Grave Importance who was a seasoned hunter and yet entered a haunted house unarmed. All so Sam and Dean can swoop in and finish these cases the suddenly stupid pros couldn’t. So I don’t find it unlikely they’ll damsel Donna for the sake of the brothers.
-
I took it to mean that Donna doesn’t necessarily need the help, but because it’s something so close to her she wants back up as a just in case. She wouldn’t want to lose her nieces life due to her overconfidence. So basically “if I don’t need them great! I can just apologise for wasting their time. If I do need back up then thank God I called them and my niece is still alive”. I don’t think Donna needing help on occasion excludes her from being a competent hunter. Sam and Dean hunt as a duo and rarely do it alone. They’re meant to be the best in the world and yet how many times have they got each other out of messes during hunts? How many times have they called in others like Bobby for help? ETA: @ILoveReading in addition to what I said above, How many times has an episode consisted of such and such a hunter with years of experience calling the boys in for help with a case?
-
It is Donna’s niece. Understandably she is more emotionally invested in the case than the Winchester’s.
-
I agree with this! As someone else mentioned, sorry I can’t remember who, Patience has no real reason to stick around now that she has completed operation save Claire. She doesn’t have the same emotional bond from years of living together shared by Claire, Jody and Alex. They’ll need something to spur her into hunting and the death of a loved one seems to be Supernatural’s go to route for this since episode one.

Main takes from the In the Beginning commentary. - They found this one of the harder episodes to write as they had to ensure everything still led back to the Pilot and beyond. So the episode was in some ways a lot less flexible than most. - Kripke and Carver found the vague nature of the deal between Mary and Azazel unsatisfying. However, it needed to be done that way as Mary would have been too hateful had she agreed to that deal with explicit knowledge of what it would lead to for Sam. - Carver thinks Misha is a hottie with a body. Gotta agree with you Carver ;)
-
I can see that :D
-
Main takeaways from the AHBL Part I commentary - Sera finds Jared and Jensen absolutely beautiful men in particular Jared’s cheekbones during close ups. - The idea to make Jake a soldier was actually Raelle Tuckers. - Kripke and Gamble are the cool kids who ramble on endlessly. Singer is the more reserved kid in the corner who has to be persuaded to join in on the fun LOL
