  1. To be fair that sentiment is much more prevalent in social media than in these forums. It seems that we in UO tend towards derision of the show (and sometimes by extension its "feelers") much more than they do conversely.
  2. Why would Randall expect a more personal touch though? Every single thing the show has shown us about this company, and Randall's boss specifically, is impersonal and ego-driven. And yet Randall still loved his job. Or so he said when prepping for Parent Talent Nite. Which is why I think it would have been more show- and character-consistent to have Randall quit after realizing that it was no longer enough for him after knowing, loving and losing William, rather than being angry that his boss was insensitive. After all, this was the same man who threw money on the floor for employees to pick up at Christmas. Randall could not possibly have had a realistic expectation of sympathy or empathy from him.
  3. @SlackerInc if you know nothing else about sharing that painful memory here, please know that it meant a lot for those of us struggling with death regrets. Time doesn't heal all wounds, but knowing you're not alone sometimes eases the chokehold. On topic: my ongoing UO is i don't give not one single F about when or how Jack died. And I hate that the show has made that a "thing" knowing they still plan to have him in flashbacks after that. And that they told us in Epi 1 that he was dead but then backed off it to make it the season long arc. As for my latest UO I love Randall to pieces. I truly do. And SKB is an amazing actor even with cheesy material. But if they don't shift focus to the other two of the Big Three soon (or at least balance it), they might as well start calling the show This Is Randall and His Sidekicks. ETA: I hate-watch reality TV all the time. I detest attention seeking famewhores with no discernible talent, skill, or motivation beyond being on TV; stupid obviously scripted storylines "acted" out poorly by untrained actors; and women fighting each other for entertainment. But damn if I don't tune in just to disparage them. I don't know the why but it makes me happy. Maybe the whole "I'm so much better than these bottom feeders" thing? I truly don't know.
  4. I suppose you're right. Would be nice if that "vocabulary" were expanded beyond hyperbole, word misuse, and extreme quotation though.
  5. My heart goes out to you @BoogieBurns. I agree with @JudyObscure that your parting gift to your grandmother was trust and love. In fact, you have the unparalleled privilege of knowing that she knew that you loved her when she passed. From a daughter whose father died from congestive heart disease and who now fancies herself the WebMD CHD expert, please know it can be triggered by stress psychological or physical stress. It likely may not at all been the stress of the previous night. I hope that you can find some small comfort in knowing that even if it was the stress of that even that ultimately led to her passing, it is still not your fault. There are lots of intervening causes: abusive stepmom, inadequate protection from dad, adults yelling in grandmother's house, and grandmother's frail physical state all trump you running away as the proximate cause. {{HUGS}} To bring this back to the show: I would bet that there are similar much more proximate causes to Jack's death than Kate allows herself to see through her guilt.
  6. I guess it really all depends on your expectations from a corporation. In some companies, such expressions of sympathy are pro forma, and the activity of ordering and delivery is done remotely by an HR and/or administrative person. There would be no personal card and likely no record of preferences for the recipient. Randall works in finance, right? So my assumption would be he works for that kind of company. Of course, that wouldn't and doesn't preclude individuals from more personal expressions of their own.
  7. Ignoring all the weeping and gnashing of teeth by the show runners, actors, media, and fans is the main reason I still love this show. When it does get too precious, I just assume it's for Those Viewers and glom on to the things I love.
  8. This may not be the show for you.
  9. THIS ^^^^^ all day long and into the night! You mean to tell me they knew all along they were going to show Jack with a drinking problem but they onlyw took 5 minutes of one episode to foreshadow it? Guess they didn't have time with all the Deifying and Mommy Shaming.
  10. Kevin and Randall had some great brother moments together. This which showed Kevin putting his brother over himself. Then Randall telling Kevin how proud he was of him after the play.
  11. I hope he doesn't stay just to be with Sophie. I know she's The Love of His Life but a Ron Howard movie for The Manny is an opportunity of a lifetime. It's at least worth a discussion between the two of them. Nursing is portable.
  12. Not the pears specifically. I meant the dispassionate impersonal gift + card that businesses tend to send for occasions. FWIW my company sends edible arrangements all the time for these things.
  13. Was it? I thought it was pretty corporate standard. Except for the whole "Randall could die if he eats these pears" thing, of course.
  14. Jo was prominent in this episode, so there's going to be a lot of talk about her. You're right. I misspoke (mistyped). I should have said i wish this forum were less about Jo.
  15. I wish this thread were less Why I Love/Hate Jo and more funny, insightful, snarky, angry commentary on GA.
  16. The worst actor on the show by far is the little boy who plays Trayvon. Come on show! Atlanta os crawling with kid actors who don't sound like they're struggling through their first Easter Speech.
  17. It would thrill me to no end if he is a real member of the Federal "Burrow" of Investigation.
  18. Also if Jack committed suicide, the show foreshadowed it with Randall's intense concern about his coworker's (imagined?) aborted attempt at the company Christmas party. Damn you PTV posters. I didn't even care about the when/why of Jack's death before I started reading these forums.
  19. Yeah, having shithead opportunists trying to screw you is not a flattering thing for any woman, and it is insulting that the writers might actually be presenting this as "see, Kate, you're beautiful! Chin up!" Have any of them MET any human women before?! But if the purpose of the storyline is to show Kate gaining agency, it doesn't work to have her other suitor be a charming nice guy. That would basically turn Kate's storyline into Kevin's Olivia vs. Sloane. And ultimately be more about the choice between two men rather than emotional growth for Kate. By making Duke a dick, Kate can gain the lesson - other men besides Toby do find her attractive so she doesn't have to settle - without necessarily taking the man who helped her get to the lesson. She could tell Duke off (or have a one night stand with him) and keep it moving while still having her eyes opened to her own autonomy.
  20. I don't think the writers are making Kate + Duke a romance. I truly believe Duke is a plot device to have Kate see the issues in her relationship with Toby and recognize that she doesn't have to setttle because no one has ever been attracted to her before. Seeing that there are other men who will find her sexy will allow Kate to choose herself, which she has been trying to do all along. She just second guesses that choice whenever Toby comes back around. And she has stated before that she never thought any man would feel that way about her.
  21. I really love this thoughtful debate on the bounds of sexual harrrasment. Though I'm in the camp of I Don't Think That What Duke's Doing Is Sexual Harrrasment, I appreciate the passionate and informative dialogue. Still I don't believe the writers are making this a romance. I truly believe Duke is a plot device to have see the issues in her relationship with Toby and recognize that she doesn't have to setttle because no one has ever been attracted to her before. Seeing that there are other men who will find her sexy will allow Kate to choose herself.
  22. I'm glad y'all are still interested enough in this plot to figure out who killed Wes. I really kind of don't care anymore. I feel like I'm watching this show out of obligation rather than any real interest in solving the whodunit of the season. It's just not that compelling to me for some reason.
  23. It makes me so sad that the writers for this show, who have such talented actors, have run out of storylines in less than 6 seasons. No judgment here. I'm glad I'm not a tv writer. I would have run out of ideas long ago. There is simply just not a single truly compelling story, except perhaps Mellie and Marcus. Nor hardly any redeemable characters. The major storyline is "Who Killed Vargas?" And I don't even care. Except to hope that Cyrus "I Prefer to Be the Kingmaker, Not the King" Beane (sp?) doesn't really become the President. Or did they think we forgot that about Cyrus?
  24. So much THIS. If the Chief of Surgery can't go directly to first the Chief of the Residents then to the Attendings and roll out a new action plan with new action items, then she shouldn't be the chief. Who is this new wimpy Bailey who doesn't know the art of direct communication?
  25. I did take this to the UO thread and it got the same response there that you got here. The people who see harassment and "rapey" (a term I hate) in the scenes between Duke and Kate cannot at all see the viewpoint that you may not. I agree with @Winston9-DT3 that harassment and rape are and should be defined terms and not used as pejoratives for behavior we don't like.
