  1. wait, what happened to Marilyn? Why are they about to chop her up? I missed something. I'm watching it now. Oh my god. I'm glad they don't have any jaunty eighties music playing over this. It should be quiet. Damn. I'm typing through it, though.
  2. I don't think there is, but from what I've seen all over the place, people expect someone to choose their spouse over anyone else - no matter what is happening. I have been soured to it all, due to my own experience that I mentioned last night, and meant to delete, as well as the way I've seen others go cuckoo over their hormones and another person. From what I've seen they're encouraged to do that by others. Even if a spouse dies, it's "you need to move on/find someone new". Those vows mean everything, to some people. If the wife was happy, I can see her not wanting to blame him if she still loves him - no matter how much I disagree with that. I don't think that June should have been blamed, he chose to cheat on his wife, chose to leave his wife, but I'm not making his ex out to be a villain, because she seems desperate. Yep. Thank you (and to the previous responders, too). She didn't make anyone else drop their stones, so I don't know why she's getting the blame for it. I do hate the way they're showing women turn on each other, even though that can definitely be true to life. Serena punishes June for her husband's failings. And for what she helped to institute in the first place! Lydia controlling all of these women, although I did like her taking away the cigarette. Right.
  3. That's what I was going to say. :) Timing bothers me, too, although it got lighter earlier in Northern California, than it does where I live in Ohio. It stayed lighter at night in England, too, when I was a kid. At least during the Summer. I've wondered when he opens the diner, and when he closes it at night. Sometimes it seems like he's open late, other times he's talking about opening again for the people at the town hall, or sitting there in the dark, watching sports on his baby TV that leaves Lorelai to ask if it's old enough to be away from its mother. When Sookie went on the date with Jackson at the fancy restaurant, wha time did they leave, and when did they end up at Luke's? I'm looking for Richard's grapefruit. :) Unless he has that by itself, before a proper breakfast is served. I can't tell what's on his plate. A slice of some kind of fruit.
  4. Same. I mentioned last week, that I groaned when I heard that it was renewed for a third season. I need to see Gilead overthrown, and the commanders getting punished for what they've done. I'm picturing Emily as an older professor, teaching about the horrors, if she hasn't completely lost her mind at that point. A FB friend of mine, who is an author, and Iranian-American, made a comment about America helping to turn Iran into the Islamic Republic of Iran. Someone else mentioned some of the women of Iran voting against themselves/their livelihoods, and not realizing what they'd done until it was too late. This article last week, was about the incels who apparently published their own horrifying manifesto: https://www.villagevoice.com/2018/05/03/the-harpy-someone-please-tell-the-times-that-incels-are-terrorists/ It sounds like they've been watching this show, to get tips. I've thought too much about this today and tonight. I didn't mean to spend hours here!
  5. I'm still wondering why the handmaid told her that "that part" wasn't her/June's fault. What did she blame her for? Did she know about Omar and his family?
  6. But assigning blame to every little thing, is silly. They may not believe in the religious aspects - all of those men, visiting prostitutes, for example - but they do believe they're doing the right thing. Have we seen any of them admit guilt? I don't want to watch anything again, to find out.
  7. Why would she be covering her own ass if it's a fictional character, or something in the news? I've been on the receiving end of that, from someone I mentioned earlier, and I'm still baffled that it worked for her - although people are seeing what happened *now*. Shame they didn't listen until this year. I agree with you that the people running Gilead, assign blame for everything, but we never see them take any responsibility (unless I'm forgetting something). They think they're doing the right thing, and that's that.
  8. That creeped me out, too. I was thinking about that a little while ago.
  9. We see this happen just about every day, with "IRL" issues, too. Just after the Golden State Killer was captured, I saw a Daily Fail headline blaming the woman he was engaged to as a young man, for leaving him - they made it sound like she left, so he started raping and murdering people. In my own life, I've been punished for years after my BIL kept hitting on me, and causing trouble between my sister and I. She would veer from "it's ridiculous" (that he might have hit on me), to "he lived on a kibbutz for a couple of years, so he thought that was normal" or "he apologized, let it go". She married him years after he started this, and we have no relationship now. All because I don't want to be around him. I watched my mum deal with that with an uncle - he once promised that things would be okay with my aunt, if mum stopped visiting, so we were thrown out. A woman is raped by her fiance, but it wasn't considered rape thirty years ago, because they were already sleeping together. I was treated like shit by family, because I, the single woman, was seen to be trying to break up my sister and her husband, when that wasn't the case at all. Never had been, I just didn't want to be around him- and this happened in the last six years. So I'm not always surprised when men aren't blamed for anything. It left me even more of a feminist, and is one of the reasons this show freaks me out. All of the toxic BS in my life, thanks to one man, and people thinking someone should sweep things under the rug, and not hold onto those boundaries, for a woman about to get married.
  10. Oh! Just wanted to say hi. From TWD board. :)
  11. He's missing the point. I don't care if they divorced, I care about the way he treated his wife.
  12. I wouldn't want to see someone give up their children for their marriage. I don't see spouses as more important than kids. It would really annoy me if they did that.
  13. I do see your point, but you could also blame the man for getting involved with the resistance in the first place, and endangering his family.
  14. Yep, the guilt for those deaths and where the wife and child ended up, lies with those who rule Gilead. It was creepy watching her turn into Stepford Offred.
  15. "I love you, more than I ever loved her." Wow, what a dick!!
  16. "It's not your fault. Not that part." June didn't expect anyone else to do what she did. Ofglen, I guess the successor to Emily, chose to speak up, right? I haven't re-watched the first season. I'm still watching, just finished that part of it. I don't think it was crazy of the ex-wife to approach June.
  17. I was wondering how they would deal with Murtaugh being captain, too. I haven't watched the whole season, but that must be part of the reason they had them off with other officers: if they wanted to see how a recast might go/new partners.
  18. Wow, I had no idea that Wayans said that. I've just googled. I've almost finished the finale, and yeah: I'm not interested in a recast. I think they should either make sure the actors get it together, or cancel. This feels like a series finale.
  19. I'm not interested in a recast. I don't like the way this was handled, and I'm also tired of good things getting ruined. As I said before, this was a little bright spot to my week, during the worst time of my life (so far). If they have actually fired him, and used the announcement to try to get bigger ratings for the finale, that's a shitty thing to do.
  20. No matter what's happened, it would be shitty to find out that you've been fired, through gossip sites, and not directly, before word is out.
  21. This one might be too dramatic/heavy. I'm not so sure that either of them will die. Off to ugly cry now. This song gets me every time. Have they already used, "Holding Back The Years". That's one of the first ones I think of, for really sad songs.
  22. Haven't we been here before Footsteps lead down to the note on the door That says I can't stay here anymore And haven't we felt this same way Sure in our hearts, but afraid just the same To say I can't stay one minute more You might think that it's hopeless Beyond our control But that's not necessarily so Can't you see there's a chance For the daring young soul Who's finally learned to say no No, I won't be misused Ignored or refused And I won't just give up and let go So tonight hold me close to you And don't give up what's important to you And as time rolls on Nothing can stand in our way And I believe if we learn from the past We'd say haven't we been here before Oh, and I believe if we open our hearts We'd find keys to unlock every door Dark would turn into light We'd be strong We'd be right So tonight hold me close to you And don't give up what's important to you And as time rolls on Nothing will stand in our way And I believe if we learn from the past We'd say haven't we been here before Oh, and I believe if we open our hearts We'd find keys to unlock every door Hearts could change overnight We'd be strong...we'd be right So stay with me now The future is ours And we'll be the ones who go on Not sure about this one, but the lyrics could fit.
  23. I've googled "depressing 80's songs" to see if I can think of anything else.
  24. Just like the doctors, who chose their profession, because someone they loved died in front of them.
  25. 5/16: With the arms control summit underway, a shocking revelation from Philip throws Elizabeth and her work into turmoil; Stan follows a dangerous hunch.
