So, upon a rewatch I still largely dislike this episode. Something I noticed when Cas killed Belphagor is that I'm not so sure it was entirely based on Belph's betrayal. I think it was far more vengence than anything else. He has hated him from the moment he saw him in Jack's body. He'd been looking for a reason all along. And how did Cas have the power to smite Belphy to a crisp when he couldn't smite much of anything recently. My new theory (no spoilers) is that Cas' anger and desire to kill Belphy is what gave him the power to smite him to a rack of bones and ash. And I really don't think it had much at all to do with Belphy's plan. Which is why I now think Cas left because he knows he screwed up the plan and it was out of vengeance. Otherwise why wouldn't he stay to hash the whole thing out? To me, Dean has actually said much meaner things to Cas like calling him a baby in a trenchcoat and they managed to work it out.. I think Cas left because he feels guilty AF about Mary. So to me, that "break up" is all on Cas.

If Dean was in the box, Jack could not have powered himself back up with Michael's grace. Thus he would not have the power to smite Mary with an angry thought.. He had the power to kill after eating some of Michael's Grace. And given what the story said, Michael couldn't have gotten out of the box because he was trapped in Dean's mind and in the Malak Box. So given the givens, I think Dean is projecting his guilt for not following through on what he believed/knew based in Billie's book what had to be done. I think his anger at Cas is justified and real and not projection.

I don't think Dean is projecting here. I thin he does think Cas had a duty to tell them about Jack's state. Whether he's right or wrong about it doesn't change that is what he thinks. Cas hasn't really acknowledged Dean's grief over Mary either. He's continued to kind of defend Jack in a way. Dean is pissed at Cas. He's pissed at God. I think he's also pissed at himself for allowing Cas and Sam to talk him out of going into the box with Michael. If he is innthe box, none of this hapoens. So if there is any projection I think it goes back to that which he shouldn't feel guilty over either.

Farewell, Rowena. That said, I'm pretty sure she'll turn up as the Queen of Hell. Sam crying over Rowena was just OTT. I don't believe he would be that crushed especially to save the world. I am 100% okay with the Dean and Cas fracture. It's not permanent. Dean only said the truth to Cas' face. Cas DID fuck up the plan. Cas DID NOT listen to Dean about Jack EVER. I don't think Dean said anything so awful. And yet Berens wrote it so it looks like Castiel is making some big stand up for himself....since when didn't Cas stand up to Dean right or wrong? Fuck you, Berens for trying to make Dean into a bad guy here. HE's not. Castiel has given Dean a lot of shit over the years, which I guess is okay, but Dean can't do likewise. I see your BS, Berens.

Even though Michael thought himself better than humans he didn't ever think Dean was an idiot. Not that I recollect. I think this is Dabb bashing the boys by changing canon for Michael to be Dabb's mouthpiece. IMO

I think it matters more to the actor that the character gets a good death.

So, I was thinking, the only explanation I will accept for this shitty writing/retcon/lolcanaon is that the events in the Arrowverse have affected Supernatural ie this is taking place on an alternate Earth so that SPN can cross over with Arrow and it all gets sorted out during the Arrowverse crossover.

What am I watching this season? Cause it sure as shit isn't Supernatural. I couldn't get put my finger on it until this episode when then I realized it's as though it's written for 6 to 14 year olds. It's so stupid. When did Dean kill Ketch before? I swear that never happened. Why couldn't Amara just know that Chuck was in the room without her opening her eyes because last I remember she was so linked to Chuck that he she had to ward herself from him so he couldn't find her (even though she was looking for him which never made sense but I digress..) That was an insult to my intelligence and not even Jensen's acting helped.

These Spoilers Suck: Bitter Speculation About SPN Spoilers

Agree. And i have even more questions: So, poor Kevin went to Hell? Okay, Dabb, if you say so. If that was the case, why didnt Crowley ever know about it. I mean surely he would have either been quite pleased that Kevin was now one of his Hellbound souls, if nothing else than to shove it in the boys faces that he had Kevin. Wait, Sam has another bout with PTSD? Oh fuck off , Dabb. And more poor woobified Sam not sleeping again? I suppose this time it will be Dean fussing over him with food and recommendations to sleep since Mary's dead. Dabb just regurgitates plot points. And not even in a interesting way. -
But what stops spirits from teleporting into salt circles to attack humans who seeks protection inside if they just can‘t cross the line? I think the idea is that the salt creates a general barrier field that they can't get around. Like in Advanced Thanatology, the ghost figured out to blow away the salt barrier. He couldnt cross it otherwise.

The fact that we are having to try and headcanon the sequence is a failure of the writing. It doesn't require we be spoon fed either. Considering how much exposition they shoved at us, why not have Demon!Jack exposition the crap out of how and why that worked. Why didn't any of them ask why it made the ghosts stop behaving ghosty? I'll tell you why. Because Dabb would have had to do research into the show ghost lore and that would have ruined his big stupid sequence. And FFS show, John Wayne Gacy was not the clown in s2. I will never understand why Dabb/Singer allowed that real life pedophile rapist/murderer into the lore and use him as a throwback to s2 for "nostalgia" is just plain....bad and wrong.

Now were it an old home in an old neighborhood, I could buy faulty wiring or no automatic garage door opener, which was not the case in this modern home in a clearly well to do neighborhood. No way that house didn't have an automatic garage door opener with a button near the door between the house and the garage. Even if there was no garage door button nearby or it failed, construction laws typicall mandate that there must be a manual way to lift the garage door from the inside. So, they could have made it so the power button didn't work because ghost made the power fail, and showed the mom attempting to open the garage door by hand. I think Dabb wrote into the script that she and her child just hide in some weird spot specfically to show Sam having to put down the gun to help the little girl down. It looks more heroic to have the tall guy physically helping her. And it sets up Sam being affected by the wound and sets up Cas picking up the gun to shoot the ghost. Its all plot, plot, plot get from A to B leaving IMO no tension the way it ended up on screen. It doesnt matter to Dabb that viewers will question why Sam would put his weapon down during a battle or why the mom wasn't shown being the one to help get her daughter diwn, when she got them into the hiding spot in the first place. Dabb could have written it to show the mom struggling to lift the heavy garage door and the ghost approaching, only to have Sam and Cas show up right before he caught them. Then the ghost harms Sam, the wound is affected, causing Sam to lose the gun on the floor and then Cas picks it up and shoots the ghost. Tension remains and no one looks idiotic.

Supernatural Smackdown: The Winchester Dynamic Duo vs Other Shows

Speakin of Arrow, i swore that neighborhood they filmed the ghost chase was the same one they used for Arrow s4 with Anarchy. And i had the same thought about crossing over.
