  1. I think Veronica said it was sophomore year in an early episode when first meeting Betty and Archie.
  2. Vili Fualaau and Mary Kay are over, might be interesting to revisit. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-40103601
  3. Donna's white platform heels with the lavender suit- I hate that that was considered sexy in the mid-90s. It looks like a little girl's Easter outfit cosplay or something.
  4. Not sure if this is worth its own thread, but does anyone else feel like there are weird racial dynamics to this show? I just started season 4, and once again here's a minority male athlete/entertainer needing Ray to fix his problems. I can't quite put my finger on what bothers me about it, but the whole "tough guy white savior" who's more rational and moral than his clients thing is rubbing me the wrong way.
  5. Why is there snow on the ground for almost the whole season when the school year was just starting? Even for maple-syrup producing areas like Vermont, this seems bizarre. Also, there's snow, but people are in fall outerwear at best? No down coats, scarves, boots?
  6. So...being that Kelly has a convertible, would the top be weak enough to kick off? Or what if she woke up before the hose was rigged up? Talk about poor planning...
  7. As did I, but for some reason I always had them mixed up with Static-X in my head, in regards to this episode.
  8. I read ahead on Wikipedia afterwards, so I might have just forgotten the conclusion of the storyline.
  9. I have a theory! Maybe her "street child" persona is a lie or delusion and she's another rich girl who ran away from home? Or she has Dylan-style wealthy absentee parents. That explains her stay at the same rehab as Kelly, her ability to pay for flowers, and the coming hair makeover. Also, I thought it was out-of-character (too naive and virginal-seeming) that she was all "When do you know when to sleep with a guy?" when before she had indicated having slept with guys who didn't care about her. -I am not a crackpot
  10. True, but technically Kelly wasn't doing coke on the party circuit but instead holed up with Colin- which is also weird. They behaved more like what I know of heroin/opiate addicts (from TV).
  11. On a tangent from Steve's doomed party-planning- I'm kind of surprised that Kelly lets Single White Tara glom onto her so quickly after just dealing with Alison's crush a year ago. It's kind of similar meeting under high drama circumstances, then suddenly they need each other? I guess Tara's supposed to be younger, but the fact that nobody questions her moving a strange girl into their place after a few weeks(?) is bizarre.
  12. I've been wondering for awhile why Margaret doesn't have a posher accent after having been one of Lydia's girls? Maybe there was no need for it in Covent Garden (first house location), but I'd think she'd want her daughters to blend easily into high society if she intended for them to be kept ladies.
  13. Was luxury rehab a thing yet in the mid-90s? The first I'd heard of it was circa the Lindsay/ Britney/Paris heyday, and it was mocked even then.
  14. I don't know. Steve as written is generally way too cheesy and desperate with women like a walking Tex Avery cartoon, and would do it just to brag to his frat brothers, and would want a write-up in the school paper. I maybe could see David taking the opportunity if it presents itself and enjoying his good luck.
  15. I was one of the people bothered by Serena (and the Commander) being cast as younger than in the book, but I must say it's working for me. You get a whole other level of this young beautiful woman probably used to getting everything she wants in her former life, but forced to "share" her husband this way. I don't recall the book mentioning if they had a regular sex life, or just procreation ceremonies, but it seems like something they'd explore with younger characters.
  16. I figured they already blew (tee hee) through Bill's check by the way they were fighting about money, but yeah. Maybe she just puts everything on a credit card billed to either parent so she doesn't necessarily have cash? But also- the show tells us she's the hottest blonde in L.A., so I'm sure she could get into any club and snort the evening away for free. Attractive 21 year old girls don't have to pay for drugs.
  17. The movie "Colors" (1988) is really good watching on L.A.'s racial relations. I first watched it in a crime film class around 2008 and was surprised how much of a premonition it was to the riots. The "Straight out of Compton" movie (and it's police backlash upon release) is of course relevant, and it totally proved N.W.A.'s point about their thin-skinnedness/narcissism. A now officer with whom I attended h.s. was on FB super upset about "Fuck the Police" t-shirts being sold on Amazon at the time.
  18. That's coming up, but Joe sticks around for awhile to propose and all.
  19. Yup. I remember pacifiers being a thing among the rave community, but that's not Donna, so no excuse.
  20. I'm thinking female coke friend must've given Kelly some makeup tips, I kind of like her look.
  21. Kelly's all "I lost everything." What? Uh...no. She still has her BMW, Brandon running to her rescue, Donna's friendship, the dignity (for lack of a better word) of not trading sex for drugs. And she'll be getting a cushy paid-for rehab. Ok, maybe she'll flunk a class. This is not even close to the typical "Intervention" participant.
  22. Ginger sucks and all...BUT way back upon Val's debut, she called Ginger to talk about how the gang were all "avacado heads" and Steve would potentially "give good credit card", etc. before she became inexplicably obsessed with sometimes gaining their approval. Maybe Ginger thinks her "bad girl partner in crime" did a total 180 since the theft scam and thus feels betrayed. That was a heck of a lot of pearl-clutching after how she did Ray.
  23. Is it even marketed as a sex doll? I remember seeing those things advertised in the pre-cell phone era as a decoy male for women so it doesn't look like you're driving alone at night.
  24. Nat Bussichio, but I feel like the spelling should be Busicio.
  25. And the whole leaving her with an addicted Jackie for Jackie's good and not Kelly's? Bull. shit. Especially with a daughter, who knows what kind of potential rapists/ molesters were hanging around (as in four episodes in the future)? Talk about no fatherly protective instinct.
