  1. Wow. As someone who went through fatherly abandonment/estrangement I am so embarrassed by how much of a simp Kelly is. Ugh! I guess money really does change things. She'd be well within her rights to not be on speaking terms with either parent. Yet she projects all that bitchyness on Val. I see why they don't get along now- the cult, Colin, Bill- it's like Kelly has huge blind spots of suckerdom for everything except Val.
  2. That's another thing that always stuck in my craw about that storyline. Yes, blah blah recessive genes are a thing- but that the show asked us to suspend belief about ethnic differences...in the late 90s! L.A. is full of Chicanas, how hard is it to have Dr. Martin cheat outside the family? Maybe pull an Arnold Schawznegger, or have him cheat with a close family friend?
  3. My first grown up job interview suit was inspired by Scully's in The first X Files movie with the belted jacket, since I do not have the legs for minis. Of course mine was cheap polyester and hers was probably Armani or something. The girls wore a ton of those Ally McBeal suits later in the show. I definitely remember lots of pastel Easter egg colors, maybe coordinated with Hard Candy nail polish?
  4. I noticed that Randy Spelling is wearing a West Beverly t-shirt in one photo. Were they considering a "90210: The New Class" at this time? Interesting timing that Steve's younger brothers and Kelly's younger sister just pop up out of nowhere this season.
  5. Yes! The ending reminded me so much of the beginning of the movie "Muriel's Wedding". I was hoping some of the guests would revolt against the couple. That also dealt with similar themes of popularity, and desire to join the ranks of the "beautiful people", but in a '90s pre-social media way.
  6. They could have at least explained it away that Samantha is her stage name because alliteration, and Iris was a bit old-fashioned sounding at the time.
  7. Oh yeah, I owned a cheongsam (and a couple of those satin robes with the birds or dragons or whatever embroidered on the back) before I was woke enough to realize "Asian" shouldn't be a party theme. Oh and I had hair chopsticks to wear with cheongsam. So...yeah. I was really tempted to get a currently trendy satin baseball jacket with a tiger embroidered on the back, but it also had Japan above it, so no go.
  8. I don't wear mock turtlenecks but I understand them in theory. Like I love the look of a nice fitted black turtleneck, but then my neck gets hot and uncomfortable in the indoor heating, unless it's a super-thin material, which then defeats the purpose of keeping you warm when outdoors. The mock turtleneck wants to solve problems, but it just looks silly.
  9. Thank you! Granted, it looks like a small independently-owned store, but are there no other employees or owner's friend/family who could work a shift? The owner doesn't know Donna from a hole in the wall, and she could have well emptied the cash register (and perhaps safe) herself. He must have taken business classes with Nat. As a Black person, I feel like the show handled race like one of the writers watched "Boyz in the Hood" instead of knowing any actual Black people.
  10. Episode 2 led me to google the Diane Whipple case, and I came across a Prisontalk forum with a woman claiming to be the girlfriend of Schneider from that case. Sooo much side-eye. So maybe an episode on the women who marry famous convicted criminals would be interesting? I remember reading the book on Richard Ramirez in high school and being fascinated with the story of his courtship and marriage from behind bars.
  11. Val. I had a ton of leftover dislike of Marcil from General Hospital where 5'4" Brenda was supposed to be a budding supermodel. ? This was 1992, the height (pardon the pun) of the supers, so Cari Shayne (Orginal Karen, whom IMDb tells me also played Daniel's schizophrenic wife on our show) towering over her was just laughable.
  12. Especially if family is a plane ride away, the cultural expectation to travel for both Thanksgiving and Christmas is annoying. Though as an atheist, I appreciate that it's a family holiday not specific to religious celebration/ churchgoing.
  13. Yes! I badly wanted the shorts version of that outfit in white from Joyce Leslie. I ended up going with a more conservative pale blue skirt suit sans jacket.
  14. I always assumed Val was going to seduce Bill and become Kelly's stepmom, given that we learned of Kelly's secret brunette sister around the same time, and Val's affair with the married Kenny.
  15. Kelly's ecru/ pale beige dress at the reception is too close to white for comfort. Just seems like some passive-aggressive crap she'd pull. I love Dylan and Brandon's suits though. I appreciate the Brit tradition of morning suits for daytime weddings and tuxes for evening, so a light-colored suit looks appropriate for the climate and occasion.
  16. That was Noah in season 8. I remember because the Hawaii photo shoot was supposed to be Donna and David's first real job after college.
  17. True. I missed the Val and Brandon makeout session/attraction episodes and thought they were cousins for the whole original run up until I joined the TWoP boards.
  18. Way way back in early season 1- "The Perfect Mom", the slumber party episode- Kelly had quite a bit of disdain towards Andrea being included in "cool girl" activities, but she accepted her into the gang after awhile. Not enough for Andrea not to freak about Jackie's wedding, but whatever.
  19. I remember Tori was on Howard Stern at some point during the run of the show or shortly after and his fawning all over her. I think thin and blonde is unfortunately enough to be deemed "hot" by some men. Then add in millions and a powerful father, and there will plenty enough people to gas her up and be yes-men to the fashion choices.
  20. I'm split on this- on the one hand it's Kelly, and she's the narcissistic worst. But on the other hand- "I choose me" was all of six months ago, so yeah I'd be rather salty and think Dylan is a complete flake and game-player, and lying about the soulmate bs. But on the other other hand Kelly didn't go running back to Brandon, so she can't exactly blame Dylan for breaking them up. They're both drama. Ugh!
  21. My 39 year old self thinks professor perv is pretty hot, but clearly has no game. My 19 year old self would likely agree. I'll show myself out.
  22. Oh no wonder! I always saw the Third Watch print ads and commmercials and thought that character looked really familiar but, didn't bother to look up the actor.
  23. Ah, the 90s. Because the neckline of Susan's dress ever so slightly reminded me of the much knocked-off "Indecent Proposal" dress, I just spent a good half hour trying to remember which actress wore that dress and the name of the movie, and confusing it with Liz Hurley's safety pin dress. Also, are these formal events just an annual excuse for the gang to dress up since there's no longer prom, and no one appears to be going to sorority formals or whatever? Why on earth would the whole gang attend this or Donna's debutante ball for that matter? It's like they only act like rich kids in this 55 year old "old money" way. Actual Tori and Shannen were out clubbing all the time.
