  1. I'm re-reading it this week to prepare. Trying to convince my 16 year old (son) to read it too. He likes sci fi/dystopian books, and I think he would really enjoy it. The thing that amuses me this time around is the references to "old fashioned" things like film strips and clothing trends from the '70s and '80s that now are REALLY old fashioned but in 1985, not so much.
  2. This bus thing is not funny and is going on way too long. I don't mind the montages and music but this is pointless imo.
  3. We just watched it last night. A lot of the music actually reminded me of Hamilton.
  4. She's three weeks older than one of my sons. He's feeling inadequate about his life's achievements right about now. Lol.
  5. My husband, son and I do picks among ourselves of what we think will we win...not what we necessarily want to win. I am 0 for 3 so far. Oh well. I agree about La La Land. I liked it but my two favorites are Hidden Figures and Arrival. edited to add I picked OJ so now I'm 1 for 4. Lol.
  6. Banner week for Mahershala. He has a brand new baby born a few days ago too. He was very good but I wasn't sure he was going to win, it was a smaller part.
  7. I remember him saying after the SAG awards that he's all shaggy for a role. But yes, that doesn't mean he can't comb his hair in the meantime.
  8. I'm looking at red carpet pictures from the NYT bc I can't stand the chatter in tv. Emma Stone's dress looks gold to me. I like it. Nicole Kidman's is too pale for her. Same with Felicity Jones.
  9. My 16 year old (son) has a man-crush on Justin Timberlake and just said there's no such thing as being tired of JT. Lol. We both like that song but he thinks City of Lights is going to win and I think the La La Land ones are going to split the vote and the one from Moana is going to win.
  10. I think that's real. I see people they have confirmed as Joe Abernathy, Marsali, Lord John, Mr. Willoughby and the young sea captain whose name is escaping me. There are a few I don't remember but recognize the faces.
  11. I thought that too about their choice of Commander. Too young and good looking. I did read that they made Serena Joy younger than in the book to "directly compete" with Offred for the Commander, so I guess that's why? Although they wouldn't have had to, neccesarily, plenty of older men have younger wives.
  12. The going back to fill in the time gaps was so abrupt to me how they did it and I wish they had shown more of that to ease into it than the coming back home stuff. I can't believe after all that happened, Daphne has gotten herself into a controversy so quickly with the viral photo. The last two seasons have been too melodramatic and far fetched to me and I figured I would stay in it for the last season bc I love Marlee and Lea. But give me something to work with! Have we even seen the new baby? Are we going to? How did Kathryn end up as athletic director? Don't you need some sort of experience more than being your husband's longtime roadie? (Kidding, but only partly. I've worked in the academic world and of course you do) I also kind of rolled my eyes at the whole "depression runs in your family" thing because they can't stick to just one or two storylines, they need to throw everything in at once. I know it's serious, but also plenty of 20 year olds just realize they're not doing as well in whatever was next after high school as they would have liked and have to regroup without it being a serious illness or cry for help. Oh, and the writers' room seems acquainted with the CDC description for Japanese encephalitis because the info was almost verbatim :). Yes, I know I'm being pessimistic. I just hoped for more than this to wrap it all up.
  13. I haven't seen all of the nominees but I saw Hidden Figures and loved it. Liked it better than Fences. I do think La La Land has a better chance at the Oscar though. I liked that one too, but hard (at least in my mind) to compare it to the others that were more serious.
  14. Yes she was, but John Hurt was not. I think he died the day or two after she.
  15. I think so too and have been stressed out reading the news and that's why I want some escapism tonight. Pretty dresses, ugly dresses, etc.
  16. I agree with all of them but I'd prefer some entertainment tonight and a minimum of political statements, you know?
  17. I hear you. But did you see how big that place was? They were on the 35th floor. I'm thinking since the hotel was so big (and they were getting product placement) that they could have rustled up 5. I know I'm being picky. Lol. I do actually like this family although the husband's hair issues (is that being a "metrosexual"?) and entitlement for his expensive "toys" bug me.
  18. Don't hotels usually have pack n plays or cribs? Why couldn't they get those instead of shipping theirs? Granted, I only have two kids and they are not twins, but shipping bath soap and cribs seemed a little over the top and unnecessary to me.
  19. Completely catty bone to pick but they are not "onesies," they are "snowsuits." I grew up in Maine and it drove me crazy the number of times she said onesies. Lol.
  20. Was it in a podcast that they announced their divorce? I'm a little behind and can't find what you're referring to. That's sad, I liked listening to the two of them together and they must have put on a good act because I'd never have known there were issues from listening to them.
  21. Can someone remind me, is this on TLC or another network? I came across it this summer and binge watched and now don't remember where I found it. Thanks.
  22. I thought it was very interesting. My station did not show anything "funny" after it was over like the article linked above suggests. What was it?
