  1. I also saw Ben's face fall when Aneesa didn't seem concerned about not winning. We know she's smart, likeable, and a good soccer player. But the show didn't mention anything about her academics. Maybe Ben assumed, until he had to work with Aneesa, that because she's smart, she's also academically competitive. I adore Fabiola and I think she and Eve are cute together so I hope Eve stands up to her friends and says enough is enough. Fabi is great just as she is. Also, I am realizing that both Fabi and Eleanor have strong interests in something specific and they seem to have friend related friend groups outside of the three of them. Devi was introduced as a harpist but I haven't heard that mentioned lately and even when it was, I haven't seen her interact with any other friends. This could be because of plot since Devi is the main character and the show has so much to do with her family and crushes. Just something I noticed.
  2. Prashant is nice and I'm glad Kamala dated him. But I can really see her with someone like Mr. K. He's just got more umph and I could see her liking that.
  3. I figured out what happened. I pressed multi-quote when I was in The Good fight forum but I don't think I ever ended up posting anything. The next time I logged on it was to post in this forum. I think your post was still included in the multi-quote. I would have removed it from the multi-quote if I had seen it when I was posting, though. Sorry about that!
  4. I don't think they're shocking but it was a rumor that turned out to be true and that deeply affected Aneesa. The students we I don't that Eve's friend(s) is trying to make it seem like there's only one way to be a lesbian. I think it's like people trying to be "woke." Fabi is comfortable with who she is and doesn't fit anyone's mold - not the queer students, not the robotics team, not her mother's, not Eve's, not Eve's friends, etc. She's great! I like the way this show touches on the emotional issues that teenagers experience. I don't think it's the hottest piece of gossip. But it was important to Aneesa. I suppose it was something Aneesa struggled with more than what we see now, especially as we hear her explain what it was like for her as a brown Muslima in a preppy private school. Exactly.
  5. I really love how the show portrays Devi's anger issues. It's totally a thing. And she hasn't learned to regulate her emotions. Agreed. Paxton has shown zero interest in anything academic. I guess we're supposed to boo his parents but all teenagers don't attend college - and certainly not Stanford. Can we normalize having a skill/trade, regardless of where you learned it? Swimming was one but there are others. I agree that we need to teach our kids how to handle their mistakes! That's how you learn. That's how you become a competent adult. Yes, I think Devi did what a lot of people do. She carelessly ascribed a real health issue to something she noticed. Like when people call someone bipolar because they seem moody, or OCD because they're neat, etc. In this case, Devi's observation was spot-on but she spoke about it out of jealousy. She lacks the emotional maturity to handle Ben being upset with her and she's taking it out on Aneesa. Also, she unfortunately lashed out to two emotionally immature schoolmates who gossip about people's struggles. If she had said something like that to Eleanor and Fabi, it wouldn't not have been a rumor. They would have taken the time to figure out the issue and they wouldn't have gossiped about it. But Devi was super emotional and just rambled to whoever who would listen. It's interesting to me that Paxton doesn't seem as bent up as I thought he'd be about not being able to swim. But then, he's still expecting Devi to help him learn and he doesn't feel like he can do it on his own. I've worked extensively with people who are dyslexic and I wouldn't be surprised if Paxton had an undiagnosed learning disability/difference. We often hear from successful people who struggled to learn in the traditional ways and instead found ways to succeed at acting, entrepreneurship, leadership, filmmaking, acting, art, etc.
  6. I have known so many people named Anisa so it was funny to hear the teacher say it was a unique name lol. But, like you, I've never heard it on TV. Yes, Devi struggles with some stuff that I think she's gonna need some time to work out. Teenagers aren't fully developed emotionally and I love that the show portrays a protagonist we can both root for and admonish. Like come on, Devi, do better LOL. Devi hasn't learned to regulate her emotions so, even though she seemed to mostly like Ben because he was nice to her, she doesn't want him to get on well with Aneesa either. Not to mention, Aneesa showing up made Devi realize she's not cool because she's just uncool - not because she's Indian American. Aneesa is a blameless nemesis. I love how she came on the scene and got along with everyone with no drama. Especially when Ben was a boyfriend for like 2 days, right? Aneesa is nice and I don't think Devi even said Ben is her ex. I LOVE Aneesa's character, especially because she's Muslim. I like that we get to see Devi identify with her and also recognize some cultural difference, whereas in the past Devi made it seem like Indian=Hindu. Interesting to hear about Mindy Kaling. People experience their own cultures in different ways and I welcome seeing that addressed on this show.
  7. Why did Chrissy Tiegen cancel herself? I know of her but not the person Gigi who became the narrator. I thought she did an OK job for Paxton's character. I was confused about Paxton's family tree I would love to see Devi have crushes/date but not be in a relationship. She's not even a good friend so she's clearly not ready to have a steady boyfriend. I feel like I'm alone in this but I don't think Paxton has his looks even now. If the show didn't tell me he was supposed to be hot, I wouldn't have known. I like the guy but I don't think he's handsome and he looks older than he is in real life. It's less about him being 30ish and more about him having wrinkles. And money aside, Ben is handsomer to me. And he looks way closer to the age he's portraying. I don't know who Gigi is either but her narration worked for me for Paxton. I can't get anyone in my house to watch this with me because they think Devi's narrator is off-putting but I've gotten used to it.
  8. I think that was Nalini's intention but so much has changed. My good friend is from India and moved to England and then to the US 20+ years ago. She describes things much differently from my daughter's friend, who came to the US 2 years ago.
  9. She brings A LOT of things on herself lol. I also think she could have dated both boys to get to know them but she opted to turn both relationships into something major. Yea, I'm not really worried about that. The house has at least 3 bedrooms. I have lived in some smaller spaces with family and you just make it work - especially in a nice house like that where rooms can be repurposed. I think Devi is probably the first to challenge Paxton's idea of dating. He seemed genuinely unaware that your friends don't attend your dates lol. I kinda liked this part. Nalini experienced a major loss/change in her life and assumed her parents would be the same as when she left home. But her parents were used to not having to worry about her and they had their own life. Actually, some of what Nalini and Devi consider to be Indian culture is actually Nalini's personal experience in India a couple of decades ago - with her specific family. Up until a year ago, she was a successful, happily married doctor with only one child and a wonderful husband. Her parents became invested in other activities. I don't think Nalini has needed her parents' support until she became widowed. This happens a lot in many different cultures. People are living longer and there is a whole world that exists for seniors and not-quite-seniors. Also, it seems like Nalini's mother-in-law lived alone whereas her parents were still alive and together so it makes sense their lifestyles/activities would be different. I don't know if Mohan was an only child, but that would further explain how his mom is so available.
  10. I think Eleanor, Ben, and Fabiola are still believable for TV high school students. Wrinkled Paxton kissing Devi is uncomfortable. And I'm also uncomfortable that they're trying to make an alleged teenager a sex symbol. He's not lol.
  11. I think it's totally fine but it doesn't seem like these teenagers are just casually dating. And, as you mentioned, Devi hasn't been honest. It's not like she went with one dance with one guy and then went on a date with someone else. They are sitting on either side of her in class and they went to her party thinking they were her date and boyfriend. That's the part that's not cool. I don't think Devi is mature enough to be in a relationship and I would love to see her work on her issues while dating - not being a relationship, just dating. But Devi seems to have a lot of trouble regulating her emotions - even more so than the average teen and I think it's an interesting thing that the show is exploring. Yes, I thought that was funny. Not only does Paxton not look like a teenager, but he has premature wrinkles that make his scenes with Devi more difficult to watch. Also, am I the only one who doesn't think he's handsome and wishes he would keep his shirt on?
  12. I think it's more problematic here because Paxton looks soooooo much older than Devi. Also, what does Common's character mean/refer to? They're literally sitting on either side of Devi in class. It's not cool IMO lol. I think Devi may be the only one who's an actual teen in real life. Her friends look much older and so does Ben. I think it's Paxton's wrinkles that feel uncomfortable when he's dating/kissing teenage Devi.
  13. This is usually the case with teen shows/movies. This is usually the case with teen shows/movies. I don't understand how was the grandfather treated them except to call them out on their behavior. What would the parents have said? Lots of folks don't have "typical" family setups. It seemed that her dad hadn't had a full-time job and landed one in Fiji that he needed to start at the beginning of the year. There was no mention of the mom's profession. Lily is a teenager but is 17 years old and her brother is a young adult. I see that the parents and grandfather leaving was for the sake of the plot but It's definitely the norm for 17-year old teens to travel throughout Manhattan. It's not that big and the entire island can be reached via public transportation - or ride share, if needed. I found this scenario to be more realistic than shows where 16-year old teens drive wherever, whenever, in fancy cars. Many of us drive at early ages but there are restrictions.
  14. I don't get Charmaine's pregnancy at all. She's apparently well enough to galivant and show off her new man. Time passes quite slowly when it comes to things like Charmaine's pregnancy and Lilly's baby Chloe, who's not a toddler yet though she was born in Season 1. Charmaine and her fiancé have been together for 3 weeks - ridiculous. Lizzie and Ricky are OK but I don't know why there's so much of them. All the candles make me nervous, especially after that first episode. Doesn't that trigger anyone on the show? I think Christopher knows his father is abusive but not that it's connected to his mom's leaving. If he talks to anyone else about that, they'll start figuring out that she's not off taking care of a sick relative. Her cover would be blown. The most realistic part of this is that Connie is sympathetic and empathetic about this so she's helping. Otherwise, she'd be digging around and blow the whole thing.
  15. No but it's pretty ignorant of Charmaine to assume a woman has never been pregnant because she doesn't have living children. I wonder if the OP meant it was difficult for Mel to deal with Charmaine's pregnancy since she and Jack were now a thing. I don't remember the timeline so not sure if that makes sense.
  16. Gotcha! I am about to start Season 3 so I decided to revisit this forum to remind me where we left off and I'm just seeing this. I 100% agree Mel shouldn't have been treating Charmain - as you said, because it's inappropriate and could lead to malpractice claims. There's so much conflict of interest and sharing of confidential information going on that I wonder how they haven't been sued already. Also, despite Mel being a nurse practictioner, I do think it's unrealistic that she has so many specialties!
  17. I guess I mean I don't consider contributing to the place you live as having money taken from you. I wish it was framed that way and Dan could see how he's helping his children and granddaughter assume responsibility and make better decisions than he has in the past.
  18. Yes, definitely odd to me. I've never been in the military but I've been a NYer. When you live in a NYC neighborhood like Robyn, you notice your neighbors a whole lot more. But I understand this was for the sake of the plot.
  19. At least the people on the case aren't all related like on Blue Bloods lol. I did think it was odd that Robyn didn't notice her daughter sneaking out behind her. Same in the episode where they was someone sitting in a car behind them. In a residential NYC neighborhood where people are parked in a mixture of driveway/in front of their house, you notice a car you've never seen before when you leave the house in the morning. Even if it's nothing, you notice. Especially if you're Robyn. But we have to hand wave a lot so we can enjoy a show like this. And I do so gladly. I assumed it would be corny and it has its moments but it's way better than I expected. There are some good actors on this show and it helps that the lead has a LOT of chemistry with a LOT of people. That's why she's the Queen. I'll watch Season 2. I was thinking the same thing. But I guess it wouldn't have made sense with her childhood bestie. And her friend Nicki (I think that's her name) from community service is great and I wouldn't want to see her gone.
  20. I don't know anything about the actress but I was just thinking in terms of physical appearance. A lot of actors would work, I guess, because genetics are funny that way.
  21. I would think they'd cast a Blasian actor for her ex-husband.
  22. Ah OK, never heard that joke. I'm used to thinking about it the opposite way - so personal and intimate that you'd only want to do it with someone you're really connected to. But I think I get it - especially knowing it was a Joan Rivers bit lol.
  23. I loved the intention of the hot dog mic. I just wish she tried to nibble at it or something. Figured no one noticed because folks like Richard and his crew don't pay attention to homeless people. Lot of people don't. Not surprised at Richie crying. I predicted his sister was going to tell him not to talk without his lawyer. As if he wouldn't already know that. Gotta ask though, why would that act stop after marriage? I'd think it was the opposite but maybe I'm missing something.
  24. I could never figure out why stimulus checks, food stamps, Medicaid, etc. don't exist in this show. None of those things would make them rich but their plots would be more realistic of working class folks trying to make it. No, stimulus checks were based on the individual's tax returns. If you had a bank account on file with the IRS, your stimulus was deposited into it. Nope, home addresses don't matter either. There are plenty of people who have the same home address (roommates, extended family, etc.) who have totally separate finances and got their own stimulus checks. I know Ben was the editor/Darlene's manager - was he also the big boss? I thought there was corporate overhead, which is how he ended up getting laid off. In any case, she was definitely an employee and would have had a tax return. It was awful. I want this family to win but they make big financial decisions so quickly. As soon as something goes well for a short amount of time, they are ready to start leaning on that. However, I do think that's realistic. At least Darlene offered to fire Becky so she could get unemployment, though we won't discuss how Supervisor Darlene is in a position to make that call. Dan is so irresponsible and gets angry when others have what he thinks he should have - boat, successful hardware store, retirement. But I don't see where he's taking his kids' money. I think Darlene contributed to the household and $500 was left over. And yes, Ben's issue was wanting to have a place for themselves and not be person #853 in the house. I think Darlene proposed because she's not self-aware and she missed the plot altogether. She was so cocky about it, too - saying she was getting married, not that she was going to ask Ben. That relationship was no good. I also get irritated when Darlene acts like she's contributing to Dan's GoFundMe page for his mortgage while paying bills elsewhere. The reality is, she moved 3 people into the house and paid nothing for a couple of years. And it doesn't seem like she brought anything with her either. I know they like to keep the set close to the original but I find it hard to believe Darlene didn't bring anything new(ish) from her Chicago apartment. Becky doesn't irritate as much but she does make some rushed decisions.
  25. Oh wait, I think Dana Wheatley is his daughter. I didn't remember her name and I got confused for a second. Also, I doubt Richard's current wife would be a Wheatley since that's his first wife's surname. I can't remember her name at all right now. And I just remembered he has another son.
