  1. Yeah, I've posted about that (as others have, I assume), but still wow. Even if it's not cosmetic surgery level, you'd think you'd want to do a decent basic job so that the plastic surgeon could trim and sculpt, not rebuild.
  2. I've seen the tire flipping on TV. Can you tell me what their purpose is?
  3. Thanks for posting. I followed her for a bit earlier this year (I think I must have been a mortician in a past life. I find this to be interesting and it doesn't bother me at all.).
  4. OMGoodness. I love Dr Now, but wow. Frankenstein. And what is that - fat or pus between the top and vertical stitches? I've had breast reduction surgery. If my stitches looked like that I would have sued the doctor. I realize Dr Now isn't a cosmetic or reconstruction surgeon, but jeez Louise.
  5. Interesting. I wish I could find the resource now, but I have posted before that I'd read one reason some of the super obese get that way is that they never get the 'wake up call' from diabetes that other people get. You have someone one who is a bit plump, maybe overdoes it on the carbs, maybe has a family history of diabetes, and they get diabetes. They change their diet, take their meds if necessary, and never get to super obesity. Without a wake up call like that, some people just keep eating. And yes, I know there have been diabetics on the show, but not all of them are diabetic.
  6. Yup. I agree with the assessment re outside food, but I believe there were legal issues with letting them do what they were doing. That said, I think it would be fair to say, "I can't stop you from bringing in food, but if we find out you consistently bring in food, you have to go. The program is for people who want to make a change."
  7. Same here. I have a 3 bed townhouse with a finished basement, I think close to 2000 sq ft. As I head into retirement, I'm thinking I don't really need a full basement (aliya jr still lived w/me when I bought it and we needed space away from each other) and could do w/o one of the bedrooms. I'd like to see what that looks like w/furniture, tho, and would watch smaller, but not tiny, houses. I'd also like to see more single retirees. Not everyone is moving w/hubby to Scottsdale.
  8. That show was one of my favorite addictions. However, I didn't agree with the food I saw; it looked so unappetizing, no wonder the patients cheated. There was another show about folks in a facility in Ohio, I think. The environment seemed more human focused. I became FB friends with one of the show's subjects, tho sadly he died a few years ago. Sean could use something like the Ohio facility, but it would have to be structured - here are cooking lessons, here is how we clean the house, here's how you talk to people who are helping you, here's how you manage your finances, get the electric & gas turned on, etc. I don't think he has a low IQ. He might benefit from an online community college class that's done in real time so that he actually has other people to talk to. I just see him as a sad case, but not beyond redemption.
  9. As a female, non-medical person, I rarely have the opportunity to say "scrotal sac," especially in reference to someone's face. So, when I saw it, I laughed like a 12 year old.
  10. Good night. I'm gonna go make myself lunch. No pizza will be involved.
  11. Was Sean wrapped in a sheet because (please) he didn't have air conditioning? Is that even allowed in Houston? Dottie's smoking. Jeez. I have no sympathy. My step-father died from lung cancer. Dottie, you've got a baby, you've had surgery, and you're smoking. Behavior like this is why you got to 600 lbs (taking care of Daniel had nothing to do with it). No canonization for Dottie from me.
  12. While I had traveled back to my parents to show them the new baby, there was an apartment fire in our building. My husband was in the hospital briefly. He only had his hospital gown and a voucher for clothes (we were living on VA benefits, so no car, no money, no nothing but a new baby). He had to get on the bus in the hospital gown to get to the store. He told the guy, "I need some clothes" and the salesperson looked at him and said, "I guess you do!" Just a year ago, I found a newspaper picture of him online showing a fireman giving him oxygen.
  13. Is that what happens after this surgery? Someone just told me today they were going to get the surgery soon. I wonder if he's been told that. : )
  14. I was thinking the same thing, but wasn't sure how a church suggestion would go over. I think they had church members help them with the move to Houston. In my church, you can call up from wherever, tell the bishop you are moving to town, and there will be a bunch of men at the new place, ready to unload your stuff. If you just had a baby, there will be frozen meals for you when you get out of the hospital. I need to get a dilated eye exam soon and can't drive. Someone from church will pick me up and take me home. It has been wonderful to have this community and when I see people like Sean, I feel for them, because we all need somebody sometime.
  15. I can't believe they let that baby walk behind them instead of in front of them. /rant Dang, how big was that drink Landon just had? Looked like 20 oz.
  16. Smile. Dealing with your spouse's death with a 14 yr old will make you reasonable or crazy real fast. Dealing with students will just make you crazy. I try to find a balance. : )
  17. I'm gonna have to turn to MasterChef if this keeps up w/Sean and his mom. I'm sure he misses her. Also, it can be very guilt-inducing to realize you haven't thought of your loved one (he said he was busy and realized he hadn't thought about her). My son and I used to remember every anniversary of his father's death, now, there are some years when I don't think about it until after the fact. And at least my son and I had each other. This has got to be really tough for Sean. I hope he realizes that all that moving and clean up is 1. probably taking his mind off of food and 2. using up calories. Clean your apartment, lose weight! Win/win!
  18. Yup. As an academic who is around various iterations of college students, I'm gonna say he's similar to a lot of young adults away from home for the first time. Yeah, most of them have someone to help them out of the door (look over a lease, give them a grocery store gift card to get started), but eventually they have to start taking care of themselves. Sometimes it ain't pretty. I've moved a lot. I know to pack weeks ahead; Sean didn't realize that and he was left with a mess to move. He'll learn. And I don't know about you guys, but I've a few times when I could have said, "The only luck I have is bad luck." He's entitled to feeling overwhelmed. He has no guidance. But at least he actually found a place and found movers. I guarantee you that there are other people who would have sat right there moaning "Woe is me" and not doing anything.
  19. Someone brought in a box like this of Michigan blueberries to work today (they were on vacation). I packed up some for aliya jr., then promptly left them in the office fridge. : ) Mom failure.
  20. I thought it was just me, since I don't have little kids around. But yeah, that was my first thought.
  21. He is helping him pack, which Sean probably couldn't do on his own. Actually, I'm surprised, based on Sean's previous statements about him, that the dad even showed up. I've got 2 issues and a comment: 1. I have almost everything my little pumpkin made or bought for me and my pumpkin is 41. If Sean wants to keep stuff he made for his mother, good grief, let him keep it, Dad. 2. I understand not being able to care for Sean, but I would have tried to place him in a facility near me rather than leave him alone after his mother's death. Comment - Sean can be very snarkable. I'm gonna try and act like a mature adult and a mom and not make too much fun of a person who just lost his mother. That said, Sean has to earn my restraint. I could go just as easily go nuts on him. We'll see.
  22. Thank goodness! I thought the thread wasn't going to open, tonight of all nights! How's everybody's eating habit tonight? I had home made vegan chili and some watermelon.
