Same. Does it seem that this season's cast is extra douchey? I can't remember disliking so many people at once. Even a lot of the supporting cast members are assholes.
-
I liked the beach house. Of course I also like the occult and true crime, so there's that.

I absolutely despise Dr. Phil. Hate him. I'd LOVE to see him host this shit. This is the first time I've ever found Taylor hot.

S01.E01: Happy Birthday, Jeanette Turner
mamadrama replied to peachmangosteen's topic in Cruel Summer
Same. I was 13 in 1995. They've done a great job with the pop culture references (loved the nod to Untamed Heart) and clothing. I had that slip dress Kate was wearing in the mall. -
I thought that too at first but then I realized that in the 94 timeline she'd only been back home for a day or so. She was probably still extremely traumatized and he was a familiar face. We didn't see who was in the truck when she was dancing, did we? We know Jamie has a car.

Things I noticed: "Call me Mr. Harris," to Jeanette vs "I'm Martin" to Kate. Grooming? The news said that Martin was shot by the police and video footage showed them walking Kate out in the daylight. However, the gunshot Jeanette and Jamie heard was the night before. The mirrors in the basement. Could they be two way? Maybe Kate saw Jeanette and assumed she saw her back. My 9yo noticed that when Jeanette ran to Jamie's house she seemed genuinely perplexed as to why he hit her. She didn't scream "I'm sorry" or "I can explain", she cried "why are you doing this to me." Theories: Kate saw Jeanette but Jeanette didn't see Kate. Kate saw Mallory (who'd taken the necklace back) and thought it was Jeanette. Mallory is somehow involved. General ideas: Jeanette's mom is no different than Jeanette. She also wanted to be like someone else and cared about how things looked (ie, cheap necklace). I wonder if Jeanette is somehow jealous (NOT the right word) of Kate even more now that she's been rescued? Jeanette seemed to think that Kate had everything that she didnt: the cool friends, hot guy, pretty hair, big house...And when it came time for Martin to kidnap someone even HE chose Kate (even though he'd been "alone" in the house with Jeanette and had met her first). All teen girls are a little sociopathic. I wouldn't return to 15 for anything. A lot of what's going on looks suspicious in context but out of? Not that unusual for a teen girl to "blossom" in a year. Or to lose interest in old activities or grow apart from old friends. Or to idolize another girl and develop a crush on her boyfriend. All these things are fairly normal. But in context of this story? Yikes.

My mother teaches ESL. She also teaches GED classes in our detention center. There are far more fights between partners "correcting" each other in the language class than between inmates in the prison. As others have pointed out in this conversation, there are other ways of sharpening your language skills. This is BRANDON. His grammar hasn't been great, either. The only advice I'd take from him is how to remain a weasly manchild into my 30's.

Yep! I've seen that happen as well. My husband got detained for 24 hours once when he was entering the country. His passport name didn't have a hyphen in it but his ticket did. Nobody else had noticed that. It IS like jail. And I could imagine how much worse it would've been if he didn't speak the language.

Even if Amira is totally unreliable, Andrew is still a turd. His behavior has been abysmal.
-
Um...say what? Who is Amanda? We're talking about the person who had a cold reading done by the medium, John Edward.

Microgeneration. I dig it. Do I get to microdose with that? -
I'm actually gotten a little upset by the "Amira is lying" comments. Not here mind you, you're my homies, but FB, Reddit, etc. Maybe she is, I don't know. Hell, half the storylines are exaggerated. But if someone says they feel uncomfortable around someone else then that should be the end of it. We are not a jury, nor is the rest of her castmates. We don't get to decide what she, or anyone else, can handle or should be able to. It's not about how fake their storyline may be, it's about someone saying they're uncomfortable and others pressuring her. Natalie can take a few seats-she refused to answer questions herself. Andrew had the chance to tell his side and he refused. That's on him, not on her. I think it's telling that Sharp chose to honor Amira's wishes. They could've canceled her interview when she made demands, they DID pay to fly Andrew out and board him, but they didn't. We did see her in Serbia. There was also some stuff on Bares All. And he's been working to control the narrative overtime online since the season started airing.

Regarding the argument at the Tell All about Andrew and the texts that he did/didn't send while she was detained:

I'd totally watch that.

Yikes on the Greta caricature, giggle at the "von Trapp children but hangry" line. I don't know where I fit in. I was born in 1980 to parents born in the 40s and grandparents in the late 1800s. Our first car had an 8 track player, as a kid I bought the Dirty Dancing soundtrack on a 45, only a few friends had cable, PCs were almost unheard of until we were in our teens, I owned an Atari and the first Nintendo, Saturday morning cartoons were a thing, we had to rent VHSes AND VCRs from the video store, and I didn't access the internet (or have a computer in my home) until my freshman year of college. I'm too old to be a Millennial but too young for X. My 14yo and I have been binging the show. I spent 30 minutes explaining to him that Liza, Diana, and Quinn are all Broadway stars; Kelsey had her own show as a kid; and that the 'M" in MTV used to stand for music. -
If I were married to Brandon and he went around "correcting" me all the time then I'd nip that in the bud and only speak Russian. She can hold entire conversations in his language, he had to use Google translate for his vows and still mispronounced every other word.

While she and Andrew may very well have cooked this up between themselves, she was definitely in the Belgrade airport. I've slept in it. Twice. I know every corner of that fucker. Also I'm honestly perplexed as to why people seem to think her detainment story is impossible. In an attempt to play the system she, of Middle Eastern origin, flew to Mexico with a one-way ticket during a pandemic and gave shady answers when questioned. She wasn't thrown into a Mexican prison, she was placed in a detainment center for 3 days (72 hours is pretty much standard for these situations) and then deported to her country of origin. It happens. A lot.

My 74yo diabetic mom had it and she's doing fine. The clinic didn't mention an age min.
