  1. Is there some reason why Charles Barkley is hosting again? That seems to have come outta nowhere.
  2. Yes I saw that, and also she's maybe playing a powerful governmental official. There's just something about this show . . . can't wait!
  3. Is Season 2 due anytime soon?
  4. There's that but in '08 an Iraqi literally threw his shoes at geedubbya.
  5. It just occurred to me that the son of Mad Men's Don Draper had himself frozen for a couple hundred years, had a sex-change operation, and then became a Gunnery Sergeant in the Martian Marines.
  6. ^^^ This.
  7. I maybe need to watch that one again because I don't remember him or his character, but he would have been a total unknown then. Maybe I didn't watch it all the way through. Tim Allen usually sucks, imho, but this was an ensemble. BTW, Three Billboards finally came to my (Missouri) town. Very good and Rockwell deserves the awards he's getting.
  8. This was an uneven show and my personal take was that the big laughs were coming out of left field, examples being Bridgette Bardot's neck, Luke's brain-bleed, and the child support joke. I loved the alien ass-face sketch. (Did anyone else notice the wet stain on Beck's cheek?) The out-of-left-field business in that one wasn't the kiss at the end but right before that when Portman held up her finger to shush Beck's buttocks. They should have cut the last three sketches and second musical number and just let Pete do a 15 minute stand-up set instead.
  9. I agree that Wiig-ness is a bad thing and hope that doesn't happen to Kate. The primary antidote for that is Cecily Strong. They are both formidable talents. The rest of the female cast ain't too shabby either these days.
  10. I thought the exact same thing at the time. Interesting criteria for judging musical talent, but to each their own, I guess. I did enjoy the second song (and the shirt he wore during the goodnights) This was one of the worst shows of the season, and one of the rare ones where the second half was better than the first. IMHO, the What Even Matters sketch evinces that the writers have either gotten lazy or burned out by Trump sketch humor. The structure was basically a repetition of [Set-up] --> [Oh well, fuck it] and wasn't even really joke-writing. I agree with all the sentiment, but it was lame and not funny*. The WU bits on Trump continue to land, mostly, so go figure. *Unless it's a matter of, "I can't cry, so I have to laugh." (??)
  11. ^^^ Super! Getting my hopes up . . . [biting tongue re the MG :rolleyes]
  12. Regarding Aidy's WU bit, I see her point but it wasn't funny. Chantix: Faux commercial with Cecily playing a "real person not an actress" but she's done community theater and Chantix may have the side-effect of causing the over-estimation of one's own talent and in the end she's puffing on a cig. A sample of the Gong Show (and yes, it really was horrible) really should include The Unknown Comic.
  13. It may be important to add that he played Barris whose "real" identity was a Cold War CIA assasin (What do you think Barris was really doing on all those funky Dating Game trips? Hmm?) I loooove this movie and strongly recommend it. Co-stars Drew Berrymore, George Clooney, and Julia Roberts yada yada.
  14. Sam Rockwell is not known for his comedic prowess, but I thought he did well. Sometimes dramatic actors pleasantly surprise. It's probably very hard to get to that level without having done some significant comedy somewhere along the way. And . . . now that Rockwell has hosted, does that mean we can't have Frances McDormand, too? I reckon she'd be awesome.
  15. I don't think an accidental f-bomb is an automatic SNL perma-ban. The cast has dropped as many as anyone else. I thought the show was pretty good, top to bottom. The weakest parts of the show, imo, were the three guest parts on an otherwise solid WU, and the ATM sketch. I even liked Halsey. There may have been an over-reliance on pre-taped, but the Chantix thing, which was good, was prolly thrown in for time. I love my fucking country! Halsey parading around in her unders for four minutes in her first song, and suggestively making out with a guy in her second song, with suggestive lyrics, is completely not a even close to being a thing, but everyone's all a-titter when the host drops an f-bomb that lasts a half second.
  16. I like her, but has Jessica Chastain ever been funny in anything? (Has Will Ferrell?)
  17. For me it was his Moon.
  18. I read the first one and had intended on waiting for the TV episodes, but that could take years. Has anyone regretted not waiting and forging ahead with the books?
  19. Hallmark presents . . . "A Cookie-Cutter Christmas." (Starring Chris Bearstick)
  20. Good gawd this means four heads and two supervisors. What a mess. They have over 30 writers now it looks like.
  21. Yeah that was a great hook! I paused and laughed out loud.
  22. Reminds me of our DVR this time of year . . .
  23. Wait, wut? For the whole show? My take from my very limited ice skating experiences in college was that the skating part wasn't so tough but the STOPPING was a total bitch.
  24. Trump picked Pai as chairman of the FCC and if not for Trump's backing for a fresh term he would have been gone a couple months ago.
