That sucks. I feel your pain. I was on dial-up until 2004 and only then got 768kb radio. Yeah, probably the big fear now is a so-called "rights-spiderweb."

Kenan jokes that he can't quit because he has kids in private school now.

Hollywood Reporter has a click-bait headline saying it's been revived by Amazon for s4, only to say in the first sentence they are "in talks" and "near" a deal. Fuckin' media ho's . . .

That Soul Train meme was 10x funnier than anything on the show.

Yeah, my apologies. My understanding it was cancelled at the same time Lost in Space was renewed. Live stream with Cas Anvar, Wes Chatham, and showrunner Naren Shankar over on Afterbuzz TV at 6-7pm PDT. https://countle.com/RI196060jF https://www.youtube.com/afterbuzztv

Early reports were that Netflix had rejected it almost immediately, though all news is sketchy at best and the most ostensibly reliable was coming from the Propmaster Jim Murray. There's been nothing from him in days. I also think that between now and then, Netflix cancelled Altered Carbon so who knows. Netflix also renewed Lost in Space, which imho is flawed but a personal guilty pleasure. The nut being that Netflix's current situation on sci-fi is unclear. Amazon seemed a natural fit to me because they were already streaming s1&2 in the US plus they're selling all the books. With shows like Electric Dreams and The Man in the High Castle, they seem committed to quality sci-fi.

That reminds me, Amazon Prime Video has a fan-favorite Star Trek TOS collection, 10 eps. I mostly agree with the choices. Anyhow, something to watch in between Expanse episodes?

Petition now over 100,000.

Oh yeah, Cas Anvar in his live tweet said to keep watching-- if possible, LIVE and w/ DVR viewing within three days. Both count. Watch it on Prime and iTunes, too, if possible.

Dave Chappelle and Jon Stewart are teaming up for a small comedy tour this summer. So far it's only Boston, Houston, and El Paso, which is weird.

Click on raven's reddit [renewal megathread] link above and there's a panoply of places to make your voice heard. Specifically, the petition link is ~ 3/4ths down the page. No reddit acct. required, afiak.

Gadzooks! The Expanse petition went from 23K to 49K overnight.

Yes, but isn't this an unusual case, where the producers, Alcon, retained a relatively high amount of control of the show's distribution? I'm not aware of any other shows whose distribution is so fragmented (Sci-Fi, Netflix, and Amazon). This was part of Sci-Fi's problem with retaining the show, right? @ raven: Done and done. Thx for the link.

S43.E20: Amy Schumer / Kacey Musgraves

Kristen Wiig probably wrote it. [evil laugh] -

Why would Schumer think that was funny? Any talentless baffoon can be an asshole for two minutes. She's got plenty of talent, which sorta makes it worse. -
FWIW, concur regarding SGU. It was the only one of the franchise I really liked, including the original movie. As Danny said, we did get Battlestar Galactica. All things considered, it was a miracle it had the run it had, including an ending. Just for comparison purposes, let me pivot from sci-fi to baseball-- yes baseball. There was Fox with Pitch, about the first woman big-leaguer-- great show, unceremoniously axed after S1. About a year later there was IFC with Brockmire, a nutty comedy with Hank Azarea and Amanda Peet about a has-been announcer and a lousy minor league team. After its first season, IFC not only renews it for a second season-- but also for a third and fourth! This has never happened, afaik. So lightning sometimes does strike in TV-land . . . [crosses fingers and sacrifices the goat for The Expanse]

Expanse to be shopped elsewhere The Deadline Hollywood story There's hope: The show is critically acclaimed and one of the channel's top ratings-grabbers. "The cancellation decision by Syfy is said to be linked to the nature of its agreement for the series, which only gives the cable network first-run linear rights in the U.S. That puts an extraordinary amount of emphasis on live, linear viewing, which is inherently challenging for sci-fi/genre series that tend to draw the lion’s share of their audiences from digital/streaming." Let's hope Bezos or the Netflix peeps are fans.

17-minute clip of the mutiny + space battle . . .

One of the best eps of one of the best shows ever, and it's only mid-season. Questions upon questions . . . What happens with the war now that Earth's fleet has decimated itself? Hybrids fired off like bottle-rockets-- to where? On what, or whom, is the proto-molecule "working?" And what the hell is it doing on (or to) Venus? The biomass is hitting the air-circulators.

Once you add bacon to a food, it can no longer legally be called "kibble."

I'm becoming more and more impressed with Frankie Adams as an actor. She can be so over the top as the elite gunny marine, but she does have people skills. I'm enjoying that they're now writing lil strategy-busllshit-session scenes between Draper and Avasarala. But what kills me is the occasional poignant subtlety of her facial expressions. In her first scene with Theo when he asks her to rough him up a little before stuffing him into the storage pod, she just gives this tiny little, "Sure, why not I'm into it" shrug before they cut away. And even more subtle was the nearly blank expression of disdain and disgust upon her first forkfull of red kibble., as if her face had been frozen in place by the stuff. I died laughing.

I also tend to forget, which asterank shows, that the solar system is canted ~ 60° from the galactic plane, which was not what was taught when I was a kid.

You might like THIS, then, the 3D version of the interactive asterank link above, The colored rings are the orbits of the planets, this shows out to Jupiter.

Yepper-- this was the lowest rated show of the season by a fair chunk, the only one under 4.0. A lot of folks missed a superior show. I love Jack White but this was not his best. Being over-produced on SNL's crappy sound system is not good. I never thought I'd accuse Jack White of being over-produced.
