  1. I'd give odds that Remi Malick hosts. TBH, I was surprised that Oh hosted the Golden Globes.
  2. OMG, a rock band on SNL??????????????????? No one will watch!
  3. Hulu canceled Sarah Silverman's show earlier this week.
  4. VULTURE comedy's 10 best-of-2018 SNL
  5. Astronomers at Cal Tech have now calculated the exact distance between each of Miley Cyrus' boobs by employing the parallax method.
  6. Geek's Guide to the Galaxy podcast . . . #329 [Scroll down to find the episode and for listening/downloading options] "Hallie Lambert [former exec asst. and current writer] joins us to discuss working on The Expanse and co-writing the graphic novel The Expanse: Origins." Nice discussion of her role on the series and about the Save the Expanse movement. She was there.
  7. Jason Momoa, wow. Ronson + Cyrus, wow Pt 2. Maybe we'll see Kevin Parker backing up less-talented people again. So the 15th is the Christmas episode? Is it known when the hiatus ends?
  8. IMHO B99 doesn't have enough throw-weight with the general masses to yield a xmas show host. (Be nice to be wrong, though)
  9. Who else among you saw that Ella Mai was slated as musical guest and immediately thought, "Clampett!!"? I guess I'll keep ragging the MG's until SNL gets a clue. Ella Mai was just so average. I'm thinking they could have gone to five or six clubs within 10 blocks of the studio and found a more talented and interesting performer than her. I agree with the sentiment that the whole ep seemed like a collection of 10-to-1 sketches. This may've been the most bizarre episode ever. Sentient curn? Vegans were twitching all over TV-land. I also agree it was too soon for another Laura Ingraham, but after they did Baldwin/Trump so many times in a row, they probably don't care about repeating CO's. They should. This was maybe the weakest WU of the season. The LaVar Ball bit isn't funny. Plus please stop laughing at your own jokes; it's amateur grade school BS. ETA: Claire F*y also plays Janet Armstrong in First Man. It's all I've seen her in, but she was great.
  10. Is there a video anywhere of Sissy Spacek's SNL baton-twirling performance to David Bowie's "Fame"? My Youtube/Vimeo searching skills must be off.
  11. Did anyone notice that Lil Wayne has a little tattoo of a pair of eyeglasses on his right forehead just above his real glasses? I'm not a fan of the genre but both his songs were good. Were his sidekicks anyone of note?
  12. Wow. This was a good show with a newbie guest. They turned Schreiber's strong serious bent from a liability into an asset. I can't think of any sketches I didn't like and the Crenshaw bit was both appropriate and funny. There were some original sketches, too. I just about shat myself when they trotted faux Marc Maron out for the Poddy sketch. Best show so far this year?
  13. Yes. She'll do Sessions as a heartbroken, betrayed minion. Shouldn't be much of a stretch. Has anyone ever done "there-will-be-hell-to-pay" Lindsey Graham? It'd be cool if they can work something in with him. The writers need to step up their game tonight. I'm more concerned with them than with Shreiber.
  14. Nice catch! 1) Yeah, I now remember thinking that while watching. It isn't just the writing. "We don't go on because we're ready, we go on because it's 11:30." So true this year. They're like a poorly coached sports team. 2) Maybe some day coastal types will get over this. Remarkably, Bill Maher finally has to a degree (See: Live from Oklahoma). There are smart people all over. There are liberals and moderates all over. 3) "What-- me worry?" Lying to The Enemies of the People to get Fox News soundbites is probably her dream job. 4) Lorne to his producers: "The show's in a bit of a tailspin. Who can we get to pull us out of it?" Her Youtube vids are decent if you're into that, so this was a surprise. I almost went and got the wife. "Is it me, or is she singing off-key or flat or what?"
  15. Yes, and it shouldn't be. If a bit fits with current events or culture, that's fine. But as a place to tuck weak or undeveloped bits and characters, it sucks. Even Bill Hader has said so. At least at first, he didn't think Stefon was all that good, was too weak for its own sketch, and was surprised it took off like it did. I never cared for Stefon that much, especially after the first 10 times they did it, but arguably it was about current events and culture (even if fictional), and in the end they did develop the bit into this thing between Seth and Stefon. It may be "the exception that justifies the rule." Conversely, I love Cathy Ann, and in her own weird sideways way, she's usually talking about something current. The Law & Order bit was just something they shoved into WU because they had no where else to put it. It was lazy writing.
  16. Candice Bergen was awful. She wasn't ready and boffed some good lines. Barrymore started glancing over at her just to see if Bergen was going to say the next line. I got the impression she was the one who didn't want to be there. Maybe that's why no one hugged her at the end. The show was mixed, and when it was bad it was pretty bad. The fallen teacher sketch-- nice try? It was confusing, not funny. The CO was great and so was the Dem midterm sketch. The weather proposal sketch was meh. WU was generally good. I think (and hope) Pete was graciously closing the door on the Ariana Grande stuff. The Law & Order bit had no business being on WU. They were probably just too lazy to develop the bit into an actual sketch, which is a shame because it had promise. This is shaping up to be the worst season in five years. They had two weeks off and the ep was at best slightly above average.
  17. Emma Stone? Does it have to be a Five-Timer? (You'd think so) Is she? Where does look up such things? " . . . petty children." Concur. The "first engagement" is a reference to Cassie David or whatever Larry David's daughter's name is. They were a thing for a fair amount of time, but I'm not sure if they were engaged per se.
  18. Maybe Ariana just didn't like how he "stocked her fridge."
  19. I'm sympathetic to anyone who goes through a tough break-up, but I hope this helps Pete grow up a little bit. He needs to. His humor does, too, imho.
  20. I loved this. Will probably re-watch in a few months. It's a drama with comedic elements, a serious work that's missed if taken too seriously. Dr. Strangelove comes to mind.
  21. Isn't that only two Saturdays, though? They're "missing" 10/20 and 10/27. I, too, am loving Maniac on Netflix and Jonah Hill's understated-but-compelling performance as Owen. Plus a shout-out to the "youngster" Julia Garner of Ozark and The Americans fame. She plays Anna's (Emma Stone's) little sister Ellie. I wonder how she'd do as host-- there'd be an almost guaranteed Emma Stone appearance.
  22. I wasn't a fan of Seth, Kristen, and Fred and were glad when they left. Seth is much more suited to be a late night talk show host then the smirk-faced, jokes-dropping-to-silence host of WU he was. He was OK last night and the Really!? bit was maybe the best thing Seth ever did on SNL, so that was nice. The show was so-so apart from that and Paul Simon & Ymusic (A Bandcamp act finally makes it to SNL!). I'm beginning to worry a little bit about the writing this season. We've enjoyed a strong show since the departure of the above-mentioned threesome. The cast is there, but we're only three shows into the season and the writing is flat. They're already getting a break next week. ETA: Are there too many writers, a diffusion of responsibility? To me it's also interesting that in the political humor area, we have gone from a president who was so even-keeled he was hard to write about, to a president who's so whackadoodle that the reality is more absurd than the written comedy. They need to start going back to writing about the underlings more.
