In general this show seemed mediocre, stilted perhaps? There were some good ideas that just didn't land. The CO was one of the worst in recent memory and it appeared they knew it. The gong-bowl bit fell totally flat and that's when you could see the reaction. I was pleasantly surprised by Schumer's monologue and not surprised that a pro comic could deliver. In fact, why don't they just ditch the ever-more tired idea of a host monologue* and just have some promising new comic do five or six? I won't be buying any Steve Lacy music but I liked him. Chris Redd's new comedy special dropped on HBOmax; it's awesome!

Hmmm. May be a soft pass this time. Amy used to be so funny, like when she would appear on the Professor Blastoff podcast with her pals David Huntsberger, Kyle Dunnegan, and Tig Nataro, and in the first run of Inside Amy Schumer, for which Dunnegan and Nataro wrote. Hmmm x2. The video-clip wasn't bad.

I think he's talented and has differentiated himself. The showrunners need to start reigning him in if he's the one pushing the camp. "I'm here, I'm queer, get used to it" is OK for a while, or once in a while, but I'd rather see, "I'm here, I'm funny as hell, laugh your asses off." No argument there. They are just that good at it. They use the commercial breaks, pre-tapes, the musical acts, and WU to strategically break-up the live stuff. However, sometimes it's just a mad dash from live to live. In live theater generally, there are also highly-skilled stage assistants called "dressers" who literally help actors do quick costume changes, often just off-stage in the wings. It wouldn't be surprising if SNL has the best of the best of those. I was also pleasantly surprised by Harlowe, and the episode in general. However, the gay mixologist sketch (or whatever) was just flat stupid. Bowen Yang is too talented to be pigeon-holed into the show's weekly campy gay character showcase. They didn't do that kind of thing with Kate and they don't do it now with Punky. They're turning him into the Charles Nelson Reilly of the 2020's.

Ouch, that wasn't funny. I guess we'll see.

MG and host? Never heard of the guy. To those who know him, why would he be hosting?

I like MTS but was also annoyed by the full-frontal-nail-flashing. At least at the start, she talked way too fast and was hard to understand. I thought maybe she was on blow. I also agree the show is still finding its way and has been mediocre. And I also agree the new cast and the use thereof is promising.

No, it resolves. Lol, did you watch it, brendanxx?

I just meant for a cameo or two. AFAIK, SNL has said little to nothing about Putin's invasion of Ukraine. Shameful.

Loved s1 of Russian Doll; s2 looks like a trainwreck. This could be interesting.

Selena looked good. Good show. Sarah knocked it out of the park, especially when she dropped whatever-the-thing-was and decided not to go after it and ad lib instead.

It was worth having Cumberbatch host if nothing else so they could do the "beaten by Will Smith" joke. The abortion stuff was funny. I was afraid they would over-do it but they didn't. It was also nice to see Kate play some characters that weren't 80+ years old. The Understudy sketch was progressively funnier as it went on. Finally a little knock on Putin, too.

I also loved Lizzo. I'd never buy her music (not my thing) but I'd watch her in a comedy movie for sure (definitely my thing). I thought the writing was pretty good. E.g, the game show sketch was not the usual dumb contestant re-hash, but instead an obstinate, defiant, contestant twist. And when they had Keenan's "score" go to -150, it was hilarious. Even a lot of the throwaway lines were funny. I also have to admit that in the orchestra sketch, when Aidy piped up about all the players tweaking (and then they all did), I did not see it coming and it was delightful. WU continues to crush, even if a little short(?)

Kate playing old biddies, including RGB = yawn. She's beaten it to death. I used to love her but she's been JV now for years. At least she has a bright future doing TV commercials. "Turkey?" My term for this episode was "hack, bitch." I noticed that sort of mugging and vamping especially in the trainwreck that was the Cabaret sketch. OMG. I like Gyllenhaal-- but funny? Hells no. Quick-- name a comedy he's done . . . yeah, thought so.

[scratches head]I re-watched the last two episodes and it didn't dawn on me until now that part of the reason for the belters' tattoos on the face and particularly near the eyes is because in space, depending on your helmet and faceplate, your face is the only skin that's visible to others. I thought I saw a belter's tattoo, a sword down the right side of his face, briefly through his faceplate.[/scratches head]

Notes to SNL musical guest producer: Please resign. Please take the MG segment sound engineer with you. If you won't resign, please stop booking "acts" that consist merely of a singer with back-up dancers. Stop booking acts where the singer's costume is a comforter. Help needed-- I didn't get the Women's Day joke; something about needing to smile. It got a pretty good laugh but it went over my head. Great throw-away line: Zoe and Dismukes in the Amazon Go sketch, when she wants him to get her the kombucha, he finally does and mumbles. "I'm learning." Overall good show. Unfortunately, they need to be flaying Putin but they keep doing Biden. Can't they get Beck Bennett to come back for that? I was always a little unclear why he isn't with the show and Mooney still is.

Love Zoe. High Fidelity is one of my favorite shows and its single-season cancellation was a shock.

I've never been as big a Mulaney fan as many SNL-ers but this was just a great show. The no-guest WU caught me off guard ("Did they just do that?") but then they went into the musical. LCD Soundsystem: I generally like that genre so I'm sorta-kinda glad they were on the show, but they are annoying to me for some reason.

I was looking for something to watch after the Expanse recently ended. The first episode was great. Then in this episode Kirsten turns out to be McKenzie Davis. I was really worried because to my mind her face seems to be stuck in "worry mode." Google pictures of her. Nor does she smile much. Oh my gawd she is soooo good in this. This show is great so far.
