  1. Yes, thanks-- So that goes all the way back to Friday. I haven't seen that movie in ages.
  2. 1. During the WU Omarosa bit, in the clip with the 2nd woman , what did she say and why did it get such a good laugh? 2. For a top-tier comedian, Hart's monologue was awful for reasons stated plus waaaay too much gratuitous applause-seeking. 3. Office Meeting sketch: I really liked how they took a scatological premise and took it up a notch or two, what with the sympathetic co-workers and the progressively non-phone fake phone calls. This leads me to what is probably the SNL NITPICK OF THE DECADE: The characters kept telling Hart to go to the 5th-floor restroom, but the building shown in the little pre-and-post-sketch bumper only had four stories.
  3. Regarding blood in humor, I find some of these bits hilarious. To me the Black Knight scene in Holy Grail is one of the funniest bits ever written. Similarly, I loved the Julia Childs sketch in the early SNL years and the Dead Poets Society spoof of a year or two ago. However, I'm totally not into Schadenfreude generally, and bloody dismemberment has to be one of its most extreme examples. Go figure.
  4. They could run a massive marathon of The Apprentice!
  5. It's never good when one person is over-exposed on this show so we can hope that doesn't happen with Kate. It's nice to see others share my disdain for Kristen Wiig and for apparently the same reason. At least Kate has talent.
  6. I've heard of Lady Bird but not Saoirse Ronan. At least I know how to pronounce "Saoirse" now. (I wasn't even close)
  7. Yay for Chance and for Skyler Grey. I'm sorry but eminem reminds me a of a meerkat. Chance can act and sell a bit, and he's probably been in productions at some level. If not, what a natural! Just when I was getting over my Jeff-Sessions-as-opossum nightmares there's Kate McKinnon doing a whiskered, opossumesque (new word?!) Julian Assange.
  8. The REAL Expanse
  9. This is so confusing-- you mean you have a life?
  10. Yeah, and the black guys had told Lorne they were henceforth refusing to dress in drag to do female black characters. Lorne hired Sasheer a month or two later. I somehow missed the cat sketch-- back to the DVR . . .
  11. Tracy Morgan has a new show on TBS called The Last O.G. where he plays a newly-released ex-con. I had not heard of this before. Apparently Ms. Haddish also stars in it as his ex-girlfriend who is raising twins he did not know he'd fathered. Cedric the Entertainer also stars. It seems the first few eps have already aired but this might be worth checking out.
  12. Oh wow, I had no idea . . . He tweets about as well as he plays bass guitar.
  13. This was the highest rated episode of the season, which surprised me a little. IMHO, this one was below average. I agree that LD's monologue mostly fell flat, and to people who are "offended" by the concentration camp bit, there's a whole area of humor called gallow's humor, which was employed extensively by concentration camp prisoners themselves. This has been well-documented and even studied scientifically. While we're on the subject of what's offensive, I'll just throw this out there-- was the Sarah Huckabee sketch demeaning to women? P!nk, Miley Cyrus, and Taylor Swift musical guesting three weeks in a row. What a joke.
  14. What's Miley been up to lately? It seems like the rest of the world sorta caught up to her wackiness. The last time I saw her she was hanging out with the Flaming Lips.
  15. What do you get when you divide a pumpkin's circumference by its diameter?
  16. OIC, its referenced in the Oral History story. Followed by SNL Halloween clips. I think the YouTube vid might be new.
  17. So there's a David S. Pumpkins animated Halloween special this week instead of the show . . . (Is this a known thing?)
  18. If you like The Expanse you'll probably appreciate these prints, the "Space That Never Was."
  19. 1. Yes, she would have totally boned her TI boss on a business trip but he shut it down. I liked Donna but she was no angel. She screwed over Cameron, became a corporate wank, and almost literally caused Boz to have a heart attack. 2. We can only assume that Cameron would have talked her out of it. 3. At first I did not like this but on second thought it was a good idea, and Donna ended up being the true visionary.
  20. OMG, that's hilarious-- However, if Jon dies they'll just bring him back to life again in a sequel.
  21. True, but there's college and semi-pro ball (but those probably wouldn't be going in September would they?) IIRC that was a taped message to himself that he played to calm himself in times of stress. Me too, since she gave that cash register a good gawk. That reminded me they played another Gabriel tune, Mercy Street, in an earlier episode. I don't think either of these were 90's hits, though they both hold up even today. I'm not sure what to think of this one. These series finales are always so bittersweet. I'm old enough that planned, thought-out series finales are a relatively new thing to me. It's great that they do them now, but sometimes they feel hollow. Case-in-point, to me, Joe is too big a dreamer and bs artist to end up in a college humanities classroom, but like someone said, maybe he needed to step off the treadmill.
  22. I apologize to the people who like P!nk but I can't figure how anyone over the age of 14 could think she has any talent, but then again, I thought last year's Swish, swish by Katie Perry (and the backpack boy) was incredible. Rock/alt/indie music continues to be dead in the eyes of SNL so far this year. I'm beginning to tire of Baldwin's Trump every week but that's a big part of what got SNL high ratings last year, so it'll be a while until that tapers off. And then WU was bogged down by more Trump (the Ivana bit sucked though kudos to Cecily for her Balkan stage laugh) and then another Trump sketch at the end was, at least, better. Maybe a Trump v. Tillerson v. Kim Jong Un Jeopardy match would have been good.
  23. I hope this is appropriate here, but to anyone who has not yet seen The Big Sick, it's probably one of the best movies of the year-- and now it's out on DVD!
  24. It's too bad we can't do a "breaking/corpsing" poll on here. Maybe I'm somewhere in the middle. As a kid I'd love it when Tim Conway made Harvery Korman crack up. Apparently, Lorne Michaels watched the exact same thing and hated it. I don't mind it so much when a host does it. When a castmember like Fallon did it, it just seemed off. Gosling did it too much, but who could blame him for at least cracking a smile in the alien sketch.
  25. Pete Davidson was on a recent WTF (#849). I'd forgotten his dad was a firefighter who died on 9/11 when Pete was only seven. http://wtfpod.libsyn.com/episode-849-pete-davidson
