Daughter is really busy, what with a job, two kids, and also being the asst. volleyball coach at the local JuCo. She just responded to my text about it and told me she hoped it would be on Netflix soon. My wife has now watched all but the last two eps and says she really likes it, that she thought it got better as it went along. It's probably the nature of the show but there isn't much in the way of clear-cut "bad guys." The new owner is a bit of a dink but not horrible. Duarte is an egotistical jerk but he might come around. So I can see the brother being a bit of a foil.

His counter-tweet today was along the lines of, "Show us your tax returns and I'll stop!" It's not exactly the kind of role where you can tell whether the actor is having fun, is it, being so dour and all?

I know those bumper pictures are touched up a lot, but Emma Stone sure is pretty. That said, her monologue dress made me cringe, which says something since I'm a middle-aged guy who usually doesn't care about that stuff. It's interesting to see how the show is going to treat Trump, but it looks like the gloves are off, as they should be. Unlike Obama, Trump is a comedic geyser. When will it get to the point that conservative businesses start threatening to pull advertising? I didn't care much for Che's police joke but the the tenant joke with the little phonetic "coke" twist at the end was hilarious. I thought the audience laughed. I'll have to go back and see.

Yeah, I see it's not doing so great in the 18-49 demo but it's overall viewership isn't too bad. I wonder if it isn't catching on with females in that demo as well as they expected. My stepdaughter is in her early 30's and is into sports and loves baseball, but she hasn't been watching. My wife is about my age and also loves baseball, but she only recently binge-watched most of the season on DVR, and was sort of lukewarm about it. http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/pitch-season-one-ratings/ Duh, I spaced the no-trade clause. Danka.

Yeah, but wouldn't Mike be prime waiver-trade bait? The part where Mike gets to pick the Cubs is the inaccurate part, correct? The show hasn't been cancelled has it?

SNL Classic: Re-Airings, Past Casts, Past Sketches, Past Hosts, the Past
JZL replied to vb68's topic in Saturday Night Live
So does murder. Hartman was shot three times in his sleep by his crazy, drunk, and coked-up wife in 1998. He was still in the cast of NewsRadio at the time (one of the best sitcoms ever, imho) and was replaced by his good friend Jon Lovitz for what turned out to be its fifth and final season. Hartman trivia: he was also an artist and before he became famous, he designed album covers and logos for bands such as Poco, America, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash. (And total concurrence re Jan Hooks) -

Meta pumpkins, man! (From one of the SNL subreddits . . . )

That sketch wound up as just a vehicle for more Kristen Wiig "I'm-so-dumb-I'm-so-stupid" mugging. Go far far away and give Zamata and Villasenor a shot! That sketch could have been something but they yet again go to the mugging instead of actual creative and funny writing. I can't believe she once reminded me of Carol Burnett. What a hack. I don't see what Lorne sees in her.
-
Just being reminded about some of these characters and sketches makes me appreciate how good the show is RIGHT NOW!

Concur. I plan to change the channel for the whole show. Let's see if the ratings tank.

Huh, wha? I hope it never gets that bad. Ohhhh, you're meaning she's back too often? [nods] This probably depends on who's in NY. Armisen is a lock. Maya is a lock. Jsuds, Hader, and Forte prolly not but maaaaybe. Perhaps one of those. She was never real close to Tina or Amy was she? Fallon maaaybe. Hate to be redundant, but four sounds about right. And a Jon Hamm sighting is very likely. He should host again. Hasn't it been a while or am I missing one?

S42.E06: Dave Chappelle / A Tribe Called Quest

The usage of some words hinges on the context. He also said "goddamnit" a couple times. Personally, at that hour I don't give a f--k. -

As a blue boomer in a red state, I sort of needed this show, too. My stepson is a gay fireman who voted for Obama in '08. He voted for Trump on Tuesday, despite Pence's views. A couple hours before the show, we had our first discussion since the election, and it was unsettling and depressing. I've been watching SNL since the show started my freshman year in high school. I've knocked SNL over the last few years for falling behind the likes of the Daily Show, et al, regarding political satire. Last night's show was probably one of the sharpest and most relevant in its history, and thank gawd, it was funny as hell. Anyone else catch Chapelle's quick apology to Lorne during the monologue? -
Not thrilled about this. She and Seth Myers were too of the worst things that ever happened to SNL, imho. I liked her at first, but she's a prima donna. I also liked Bridesmaids, but almost everything I've seen her in since than has been meh. (Have not seen Ghostbusters or Welcome to Me) OMG a decent rock band on SNL? I think I'm getting the vapors . . .

S42.E05: Benedict Cumberbatch / Solange

Heh, after reading all these posts that BC is attractive for other reasons more than his looks, maybe there's hope for some of us guys yet. Not me, but some of us. -

Not that I saw. That reminds me that they had Cecily and Vanessa in some of the smaller roles they could have easily given to the newer female cast. FFS, Sasheer is a full member now and hardly gets on. -

WTF, no Ben Zobrist, the MVP (and former Royal)! It was nice to see Murray, but a shame that's all we got. I'm disappointed about the product placement sketches, but interested to see what they can come up with. I'd rather see the SNL peeps come up with something funny and artistic than see a bunch of lame ads like McConaughey waxing philosophical about his Mercury Bobcat or whatever. This particular one was lame, even with its high production values. It was a duel rip-off of both the '84 Apple commercial, obviously, and the Southpark episode from a couple years ago entitled "Reverse Cowgirl" (one of my faves). Lollers on the booty-shaking in Aidy's face. Part of the reason she wore the dark sunglasses was so she could leave her eyes open and watch? -

And they could have Sara Paulson do a cameo for a Studio 60 spoof (but only five or so of us would get it). : ) -

Then that is one super-weak joke. Sure, not every sketch is for everyone. If you don't watch Transparent you won't get it. If you don't keep track of Emmy rules you won't get it, either, and if you don't care about the Emmy rules you have even less chance of getting it. So this is targeted to a pretty small audience, which, as you may have now surmised, did not include yours truly. At least I knew Allison Janney won Emmys for Mom on CBS, eh?

Uneven show. There were some total duds in this one. The CO, monologue, Black Jeopardy, and Jones' WU bit were nearly classic-level high spots. But the Ron Howard thing with-- dare I say it-- internet animal videos-- was horrid. Same for Broken, the faux CBS trailer. Depression-- yeah, hilarious. [shrugs] I understand the idea of trying to make depression funny. Nothing is off limits. But it isn't enough just to do a sketch about depression, you have to remember the funny part. Like others above, I was left more confused than amused. However, I bet Allison Janney was laughing her ass off at that one.

The show seems to be on a roll, which itself should attract a higher caliber of hosts. You have to wonder if in some of the not-so-hot seasons, potential hosts are contacted but say, "Thanks, but no thanks." It probably never gets that bad . . . does it?
-
Awesome. I agree the host selection has been better the last few years. Remember when they had Megan Fox, January Jones, and Charles Barkley all in the same season?
