Supernatural Bitterness & Unpopular Opinions: You All Suck
Aeryn13 replied to mstaken's topic in Supernatural
The speech could have been written in a manner that wasn't like Dean going "yup, I always was weak and pathetic and crawled to you but you are so awesome and wonderful and so much better than me in every way, live your life, Sam" to which Sam replied...nothing aka agreement in the way it was played. If the intent was just to get Sam to let go, other words could gave been found. Maybe something to acknowledge Dean had a legacy, though they woud have needed to give him one first and not kill him the day after Chuck's protection vanished. Was he supposed to look like the most incompetent hunter in his own? -
If the CW is bought and the owner has no interest in scripted shows in general or at least the shows the CW airs, then either the studio's respective streaming services pick up the shows or they will all come to an end. No way any of the big networks would take them and wild card Netflix can't spend anymore like they did before. A lot of ifs for the future. But that is the buisness.

I don`t think that would have been the case because either one still treats Dean like the pathetic hanger-on. I truly do envision both brothers hosting their respective archangels and both overcoming the possession because of each other. Together. Not Dean jumping after Sam pathetically after the fact and after his role usurped by Adam.

To this day I think if Season 5 had been the end, Dean would have not been thrown out of the story and both would have jumped into the cage with their respective archangels. I would have been fine with that ending. And if I were a Sam-fan, I would have been thrilled that my guy got the heroic world save and the big martyrdom. What is not to love about that? My beef with the Series Finale is not at all that Dean died but how he died. Randomely taken out as soon as Chuck was gone - we all know what that impies, in the most humiliating manner possible, with no acknowledgment and no legacy and his final words were once again denigrating himself as a weak loser while Sam was the end all, be all. And Jared`s comment about Dean`s "success story" later hammered exactly that home. He liked the ending in a "meeeeee"-centric way. Which, fine, but I don`t have to care about "hiiiiiimmmm" and his fee-fees either. If it`s everyone out for themselves, okay. I don`t think the spin-off, sadly, will change anything about the ending. Just because seriously how would it? I just don`t care if it tramples over Badd`s stupid show either. There are some things it could do. Maybe present a likeable Mary? Maybe the prequel will succeed, maybe it will fail. I don`t even know if I will like it. It`s insanely hard for a show to even get greenlit, get one Season and possibly go beyond that. What pleases me in an admittedly petty way is that Badd`s attempts all crashed and the network greenlit this one. Or maybe the idea is indeed to do limited-run Seasons of various characters/stories. Who knows.

Yeah sure, add salt to the wound by making a show about Sam's son and legacy ONLY. Added bonus in having a Dean Winchester that now has bubkis to do with Dean Winchester. You seriously think Dean fans would be the ones that brings joy to? Have another Sam 2.0 show? That would be the single worst project I could imagine.

Disagree on what Walker is and absolutely on the respective generousness of fan groups, not remotely has that support been there. Which frankly would be fine by me if everyone would just ignore the respective other and their projects. JP got Sam fanfic filmed when all is said and done with SPN. If that is still not enough, I can't help it. I honestly wouldn’t need Jensen or Dean's participation either in the spin-off as it will sink or swim on its own premise. Though I can understand the buisness decision to do otherwise. Likely just for the Pilot, I reckon.
-
Jensen aquired the necessary rights and made it into a project. JP has no claim on that project. If he wanted one he could have made one himself. Instead he made his own vanity vehicle which is doing fine for the CW. I don't see why the two of them can't go their separate ways. And everyone can ignore the show they have no interest in. Never watched a second of Walker and if I don't like the Winchesters after 1 or 2 eps, I wouldn't keep watching it either. Unlikely I'll touch SPN itself ever again either after its dreadful ending.

Campea often has pretty cringy takes on things and questionable taste. Which is not to say people can't dislike the trailer. I myself am mixed about the trailer but at this point this is a show that has not aired yet, meaning it's a project I'm wishing well for Jensen but I have no emotional investment as of yet so right now I honestly feel content to simply watch it and either it is for me or it is not. Either it will find an audience or it won't. I'm going into it with pretty much no expectations - and I don't mean that at all in a negative way, as in I expect nothing good. Not at all, I just mean I neither expect it to be SPN 2.0 and have the exact same vibe and feel - which was evidently Campea's problem - nor do I expect it to be 100 % different. Every spin-off show I ever liked both had familiär elements but also a different identity than the mothership. Angel wasn't exactly like Buffy, Originals not exactly like TVD, Atlantis not exactly like Stargate. If the Winchesters can entertain me and bring me an hour of fun each week, I'll happily watch it. Honestly, SPN even only managed that for 3 of its 15 Seasons.

So, the Winchesters got a place in the new fall Season. The show it is paired with doesn't fit thematically but in all fairness, the CW cancelled just about everything that would have fit. From the trailer I really like Carlos. He seems like a fun dude. And I was surprised to see Dean instead of just narration. Maybe it's just a framing and transitional device for the Pilot episode, maybe it's ongoing. I'm kinda rooting for it to trample all over Badd's story.
-
Yes, Pedowitz definitely is still there. But no longer in charge to the degree he was. The CW presumably wanted to renew some of the now cancelled shows but the studios said no. A big question mark is still the pending sale. If Nexstar aquires the CW and doesn't want to air any scripted shows going forward, just cheap reality shows or maybe just news/commentary stuff, the avenue left would just be HBO Max. I think maybe that's how the Pilots got picked up. See how the shows are performing and if possibly they could be something for their Streamer. As in not just air there but be produced for it. We'll have to see.

How does he even know the premise? Is he in the Pilot? If so, I conpletely missed that. New Orleans is a cool location, though. Makes me a bit wistful for the Originals, especially as the TVD-verse has ended now. It is true that the days of the CW being a reliable comfort zone for shows to not be cancelled is now over. I mean they just cancelled 5 shows I was still watching but I'm not really upset about any, bar if they have unsatisfying Finales. So, that doesn't speak for the quality of the CW in the last few years. I hope the Winchesters can succeed in the harsh competition of TV land and it gets a fair chance to do so. If the CW should fix one thing, it is their god-awful scheduling.
-
So CW both went on a cancellation spree today but also picked up its three Pilots to series. I was most worried about the prospects of the show in terms of the CW's situation. Kudos to the Winchesters, first SPN spin-off project to go to series.

No, that seems like too short a time frame. Honestly, I don't think there will be a revival, period.

Tomorrow Today: Media & Behind The Scenes Of LOT
Aeryn13 replied to Trini's topic in Legends Of Tomorrow
That was stupid then. And it's the one thing that actually makes me upset. 7 Seasons is a good run for a show and I'm not bothered it ends on principle but that it ends on a stupid Cliffhanger. At best they can get a "conclusion" on Flash, with what I'm guessing would be a few throwaway lines on the side If the CW was still operating normally, ir would have gotten a final Season easy but not only is the network up for sale but Warner Bros itself has been just undergone a merger. Which I think is the reason for this particular decision and not New CW owners. Zaslav is cleaning house. And the writing was on the wall for CW not being in a normal state anymore since the sale got announced. It was not the time to think you can beat the system Oh well, it was a fun show overall and one that I thought was pretty great during Seasons 2 and 3 with some highpoints and great characters afterwards as well. Fare thee well, Legends. -
If it was just a question of the show itself, I think it would be readily picked up by the CW. They would have loved to somehow keep both actors of SPN tied to them. Two years ago or even one year ago, they would have. And just because the earliest concept idea of "John and Mary prequel" sounded lackluster, since then stuff has come out that makes it seem like it could be really neat. We're way beyond the early logline. But now the CW itself is in unsure waters but Warner Bros also just went to a major upheaval. The network now will be very very careful with both renewals and series commitments. They already have shown it. I wish the project the best of luck and would certainly give it a go but if it doesn't come to fruition, I wouldn't consider it a statement against the show either.

The Flash and Superman & Lois have some kind of confirmation as far as I know. At least they seem to be actively working on new Seasons. And Penn & Teller as well as 2 other reality shows have been renewed. But yeah, they would have long done their usual renewal shtick in January, if not for the sale. On the other hand they have to make decisions sometime in May or so on shows, sale or not.

I think "fans of SPN" are pretty much the divided stan groups. Casual watchers is probably the much larger group. And those may or may not check out a spin-off depending on if it strikes their fancy. Overall I'd say if the Winchesters goes forward, it might find its own audience, apart from SPN. I mean the premise wouldn't require a watch of the mothership.

But it's all just bad fanfiction by Chuck anyway till the bestest little Jackie Stu takes over.
