Anyone else psyched to see Simone’s return this weekend? Because I TOTALLY am!

First off, glad that you gave her the honorific “Great.” Well deserved. She’s always been one of my favorite players to watch. A true tribute to her gifts and work ethic that this wisp of a woman was able to compete successfully at such a high level against a battalion of Amazons.

I can’t bear to watch. I know the lopsided score, but what’s going on? Is Carlos collapsing?

Yay, Ons! Boy, that match was looking like she had no chance. Sorry Svitolina didn’t win. I didn’t watch that one. What happened? I really hope this is a sustainable level for Eubanks. I love his game, and he’s incredibly likable. And because it can’t be said often enough: ANYBODY BUT FUCKFACE ... er ... DJOKOVIC! And in case we need a reminder of the biggest reason many of us despise Djokovic: ND Pictured with Ex-Commander of Paramilitary Unit linked to Srebrenica genocide

Also, their analytics team is not as good as they think it is. They have how many great players? Judge How many good players? Rizzo, Bader Okay for their positions? Trevino, Volpe (who could end up being really good someday.) Mediocre to deeply mediocre: Torres, LeMahieu, Stanton, Horrible/career substitute/minor leaguer: Donaldson, Cabrera, Bauers, McKinney Starting pitching: okay Bullpen: pretty good Who honestly thinks that adds up to a winning team? Who thinks that adds up to a WATCHABLE team? Without Judge they are so depressing.

It makes it tough for this Yankees fan to root for the team. I REALLY blame them for acquiring Chapman, but damn I wish they had jettisoned German. I cannot watch the games he pitches. Not even a little happy about the perfect game. That said, none of these three have been tried, so I don’t feel comfortable wholeheartedly condemning them. But I really wish they weren’t on my team. Real life sucks.

Yay, Petra!!!! Fingers crossed for a great Wimbledon!
  9. My vote goes to Kristen Kish. She is enchanting, intelligent, warm, funny and articulate about food in a witty and charming way. (Can you tell she was my favorite TC cheftestant?)

Guardian Article on Djokovic written comment So apparently Djokovic waded into nationalist controversy by writing (on the camera lens after his first round match) something anti the current independent government in Kosovo. I know NOTHING about the current situation, so don’t know if this is reasonable, egregious, something else. Can anyone here fill us in?
  11. I totally enjoyed seeing Sara and Nicole just KICK ASS in the mise-en-place. I especially enjoyed seeing Nicole handling the pears wrong and responding so well (and so FAST) to Buddha’s instruction.
  12. I’ve been wondering if this show has prompted discussions, formal and informal, in the industry about discrimination against women chefs. I mean, the results are incontestable, and it’s not like the male chefs were weaklings.

MLB is just so pathetically thirsty these days. Sigh.
  16. Two thoughts: where was Padma most of the episode? Not that Gail didn’t do a great job, but it was a bit odd that there was no explanation (unless I missed it? Did I?) Second thought: I don’t believe I’ve ever seen TC cheftestants be so openly contemptuous of the local cuisine before. It’s usually “oohs” and “ahs,’ and excitement about learning something new.

    All Episodes Talk

It was UNBELIEVABLE! This show blows me away with the sheer volume of classic, enduring, incredibly hilarious scenes. Honestly, no other show could touch it.

Man, Rybakina has Swiatek’s number. Who’da thunk it?
  19. Just getting in under the wire before the next episode to say that I found last Sunday’s episode remarkably exciting. Always happy to see Darnell win, although I found that ridiculous mask off-putting, the first off-putting thing I’ve found about this delightful, gorgeous, talented man. (I read recently that he actually spent time in prison! That makes what he’s accomplished triply impressive.) I really admire ballsiness and competitiveness in women (Antonia, Tiffani, Tiffany, Brooke, Mei, Alex, etc.), for one thing because I, a woman, don’t have it. But there’s a point where it becomes childish and annoying. Crista L blew right past that point last Sunday. I will actually be surprised if she stays on Guy’s short list. Yay Mei!!!! I actually would have preferred Chef Viet, but like Tiffany a lot. Finally, I am INCREDIBLY impressed with Britt’s win over Tiffani. Yes, Tiffani might have felt the pressure of being a returning champion, but she is still a top level chef at the height of her powers, whose dish blew Scott C (ew!!) away. And to cook eggs and LIMA BEANS and take the win over a masterful dish from Tiffani is amazingly impressive. See? Exciting!
  20. I’m a little surprised by just how much I enjoy this show. I’m one of those who found the Guy who appeared in the ads for DDD all those years UNBEARABLE, and couldn’t imagine under what circumstances I would ever watch a show he was in. Then Covid hit, someone on this board mentioned that he was a much better guy than he seemed, and I tried GGG, which I mostly really enjoy. They key, IMO, to why TOC is so enjoyable is that blind tasting. It makes it so interesting. I LOVE that there have only been women finalists to this point. I feel confident that would not have been the case with non-blind judging. The line-up of contestants this year is pretty fascinating. I was so surprised that Eric beat Graham. Outside of Top Chef, I’ve not seen Graham as a TV personality, but you can’t deny that is one heck of an impressive resume. I really like Eric as a person and as a TV personality but have wondered if he might not be quite at the very top level as a chef. Thank goodness Jet took out that annoying Malarky protege. Same for LeAnn (sp?) taking out the Actual Malarky. I hope Garcas can demonstrate why he became an Iron Chef. I really enjoy when the food blows the judges away. A few of the match-ups bum me out. I’m sad that Shota and Antonia have to face each other. I really like both of them. I was SO looking forward to seeing Stephanie kiss ass and take names, but Madison these days is cannon fodder, and that could be kind of sad. He really hasn’t been able to build on that amazing Chopped run, when it seemed like he was something extraordinary. Then again, maybe he’s living the life he wants.

And wrist injuries are well-known career-killers, see Juan Martin del Potro and Dominic Thiem (hopefully his career isn’t over, but it’s not going great).
