Not only did he call out Tsitsipas The Elder, but ... (from The NY Times article today): "Medvedev said he could not be certain that Apostolos Tsitsipas was coaching his son. He said all he could hear was his commentary during the match in Greek, which Medvedev does not speak. Part of Medvedev’s frustration with Campistol was that he did not speak Greek either. But tournament officials soon stationed the Greek umpire Eva Asderaki-Moore in a tunnel within earshot of the player box. After Tsitsipas received a warning for coaching early in the fourth set, he did not win another game, and Medvedev accelerated to the finish." I didn’t see the match. Were the commentators aware of the stealth Asderaki-Moore move?

The Mary Tyler Moore Show - General Discussion
Harry24 replied to vb68's topic in The Mary Tyler Moore Show
Li Chin. He was so handsome and charming. Supposedly from Vietnam.* I think we only “met” one of Murray’s kids, the daughter Bonnie who was such a fuck-up as an intern at the office. Li Chin was mentioned in the episode where Murray thinks he’s finally going to win a Teddy, and at the awards ceremony he’s so nervous he can’t remember his kids’ names, including “that one we adopted.” Then when he loses, he congratulates the winner as he passes, turns his head to the camera and says hi to all the kids as he’s shaking the winner’s hand. PLEASE don’t ask me how I remember all this. I have no idea. *I remember how charmed/moved Mary was when Li Chin said hello and bowed to her. I always felt MTM had a real soft spot for kids, and at that moment it looked like MTM peeked through the character. I remember a couple of spots in the Dick Van Dyke Show where Laura laughed really hard at something Ritchie did, and it was a smile and laugh we never saw from her before. Again, I had the feeling MTM was showing through. Sweet. -

Thanks for bringing this up, blackwing. They mentioned this propensity in the match against Keys (or perhaps an earlier one?), and now Krejcikova has jumped from my favored list all the way to my shit list. I HATE that shit. It’s one of the reasons I disliked Djokovic from the first time I saw him play Monfils at the US Open when they were both fresh out of juniors. He was pulling crap like that all over the place. Repulsive.

I can’t quote the exact guidelines, but the AO has certain levels where they put special rules into play regarding extreme heat, including stopping play. It’s a combination of heat, humidity and other factors. Maybe they call it the Heat Index?

It's remarkable that he dealt with that as effectively as he did. In fact, it might be one of the more amazing things about him. I don’t believe there are a lot of top level players who really make dramatic headway with those issues. Martina N might be one of them. Those issues are rough. Also ... I’ve been WONDERING why there’s been no mention of Peng anywhere recently

I always laugh remembering that Darren Cahill’s wife always refers to MS as the “big, sexy Russian."

I've become a Krejcikova fan, however charisma-free she may be. So proud of Madison for taking out Badosa (who I thought was the second favorite after Barty.). I wish I could have seen the match.

I've often wondered whether the seemingly modest support and respect accorded to H/D might have had a class element to it, not dissimilar to what Harding faced. H/D don’t seem like they’re from backgrounds as modest as Harding, but they also don’t seem to carry themselves with a confident sense of belonging. I could be totally wrong, of course.

Boy, that is a non-glamorous line-up in Rod Laver today. All fine players, of course, but mostly not-headliners.

Thanks, Cambridgeguy. I was having trouble finding articles that weren’t written by Djokovic worshipers. Boy, this situation is so complicated. Having not traveled by air personally during Covid, I have no idea: whose responsibility is it to check passengers’ covid status before and after they fly? And why aren’t the players being tested during the tournament FFS?
-
I’ve been searching around trying to find a good story from a major publication on Rublev’s Covid situation. Has anyone seen one?

Seb Korda looked great demolishing Cam Norrie. Norrie was not at his best. At one point he seemed to really get the yips on his forehand. But Korda looked great, especially since it’s his first match of the year. I really enjoy his silky game.

Thanks, Rose! Is ESPN+ only a streaming service?

Okay, moving on to the tennis, or at least me watching the tennis: WTF with the limited coverage this year? It looks as though ESPN/ESPN2 only has live coverage in the 7pm/9pm-11:30pm (EST) range and recorded coverage in the 2/3pm-6pm range. They used to go overnight and give us full coverage. And Tennis Channel doesn’t appear to be picking up the slack. I’m hoping there’s some coverage option I’m missing. Can anyone advise? TIA.

Yes, and I don’t believe it was mentioned on this board (and haven’t seen the broadcast yet), but Jason’s coach, Tracy Wilson, tested positive today. And they were cheek by jowl for their marathon trip from Toronto to Nashville. So Ilia may be in luck.

He'll probably be safer from C by driving. I just hope it doesn’t exhaust him.

Nooo! Well, it’s not like the scheduling would be an issue. But losing Kenny S and now Coney. Not okay, Yes! We’ll be stuck with Michael Kaye (who is overbearing and boring) and Paul O’Neill (who is charming but not interesting or insightful). Sigh.

Couldn't they have foreseen the shit storm that would rain down on them?
-
And I’ll bet there will be nary a peep of criticism from the on-air tennis folk at ESPN and Tennis Channel. Gah!

What I read was that he simply chose the programs he had scored the highest with. Interested to see how Hanyu looks at Japanese nationals. Also, TOTALLY rooting for Muramoto-Takahashi. They are such an exciting team with two fantastic programs. Daisuke is still a master artist (even as he finds his way to becoming a good ice dancer from being an all-time great singles skater.)

I hear this latest strain is a touch contagious. Sigh. From the article I saw it sounded as though he’s experiencing some symptoms. Get better, Rafa!

I believe it was Shcherbakova.
