  1. That's the only thing that makes sense to me. Mo gave Eddie a key, which is a big step. Then Eddie is excited about being away for 8 months, leaving Mo behind. Mo isn't having it. So Mo burns it down. Because if that's not the motive, it doesn't make sense to break up before you know if it's even necessary. Eddie hadn't gotten the part yet. But Mo doesn't care -- Eddie's willingness to go is the break-up-worthy sin. Bringing the stuff to end it AT the audition? That was beyond bitchy. It could have thrown Eddie off and tanked his chances. Mo made sure to burn it good.
  2. This completely flummoxes me! I am from Ohio, my family goes back countless generations there, and I've never heard of it being considered anything but the Midwest! As an adult I've gone on to live in 4 other states (Midwest and West) and same in all those places. The only other label is "back East", but that's not a region, it's just "anything east of here". What do you consider Ohio, then? A state I consider to be hard to classify is Pennsylvania. It straddles regions -- Philadelphia fits best with east coast, Pittsburgh is more midwestern/rust belt. It's its own thing. Maybe West Virginia, too.
  3. For sure, there are always some teams with a leg up when they bring in family members. This time it didn't seem like anyone was stuck with a *bad* partner at least! I thought the playing field seemed more even than usual. (Except mistaking fish for chicken...) My partner agreed if I'm ever on Top Chef he'll make sure the show recruits my mom or brother instead of him, because he would be terrible.
  4. Their stash didn't blow up. The police had already impounded everything -- in an earlier conversation they said the house was empty when it blew up. Well, he does have black ears. Which are super gross.
  5. Lots of people would choose the baby, though, just like Grace did. (I would not, just saying.) I definitely see why Ben felt guilty and torn up. Grace told him explicitly to save the baby over her, and he went against her wishes. If she'd lived and the baby had died, Grace may have found that unforgivable.
  6. When Tookie overheard him on the phone, Ansel was saying "When can I see you again?" So, sounds like it. I've had a hard time with her lately, starting when she originally came to Miles about getting the DoD file. I was like, how is he supposed to help with that?! She asks SO MUCH of Grey and Miles, it really is insane what she's willing to ask and how oblivious she is to the risk to them. She is so self-focused she can't even see around her. And then went off alone, when she desperately needed backup and a witness. What in the world was Miles thinking, confiding in the partner? I was hoping he had a plan and was planting something there, not just confessing.
  7. Question: Why was everyone taken to the police station, including Tookie's wife and the DOD guy? Was the sex being paid for? The pixie-cut woman was drugging and robbing dudes, that much is clear. It wasn't clear if there was a larger ring of thieves or just her. And I have no idea if a sex club is strictly legal but it should be as long as money isn't changing hands.
  8. That's what I heard, but that idea seemed to vanish later. I know TV shows don't generally deal in realism, especially financial realism, but for me what's been missing from this whole plotline is how can they afford to live independently in one of the most expensive areas of the country. (PDX is steep, even by California standards.) He likely doesn't earn enough for his own car and apartment -- a group home would make sense for him. But she may well rely on his SS income to make ends meet. (If this were reality.) Not saying family has to be shackled together; they each deserve an independent life. The money thing just keeps jumping out at me! My BF was very impressed I identified him. Haven't seen him in years. How fun!
  9. That was such a well-written moment. She didn't even mean it as an insult, just an observation. I feel for Jackson. Hot, well-off, popular, a star. And yet his life is so hollow.
  10. My belief all along is that Jared is undercover. While many viewers dislike him, the writers seem to think he is redeemable so I don't think they'd fully write him to the dark side. I figured he was trying to prove himself to Michaela, but being asked to go undercover makes even more sense. The way the captain blew off Michaela's concerns about a leak fits with her being in on it. Then again she dismisses M about everything, so... The problem with her clearance rate is that it's suspiciously high and built entirely on anonymous tips (not even CIs) and hunches. There is a kind of boss that would not be happy about that and would be more concerned it implies some sort of complicity, corruption, or illegal police work. Can't imagine IA wouldn't be suspicious. Now, if she has another agenda that comes from higher up (FBI, IA, 1PP, the Major), that works too. --- I thought Saanvi was smart. Sadly, she is not. Trusting the therapist and overeager lab helper with super double extra secret stuff? Dumb. Continuing to work while under surveillance and putting all that evidence where it could be stolen? Dumber. Injecting yourself with an experimental drug, more than once! Without a buddy! Behind a locked door! I can't even.
  11. I feel pretty sure what saved Angel and Minju was the guest judge saying (while it was coming down the runway) that theirs was something he hadn't seen before and that it does what fashion should, "take you places". That had to be the saving grace, versus a cliché of harness/bodysuit/safety pins. Because the silver really was fairly terrible otherwise! On these shows, creative/original -- however the judges choose to define that -- typically wins over cliché or safe. A judge said something about C&A putting the safe in safety pins. It was so weird seeing Angel and Minju talk about trying to make something sexy. Everything about their aesthetics and personality is just the opposite of that. It felt wrong somehow. Both produced lame looks so I was fine with either being eliminated based on this challenge. Though I do think Angel and Minju have a more interesting and different perspective to offer the fashion world and this competition than Claire and Adolfo, so looking beyond this challenge I prefer this outcome.
  12. I was in Kiki and Ferai's corner on this one! Purely based on the fashion, I didn't think they were the worst look, not even close. And I really felt for the guest judge's conflict. I put the opinion of the specialist guest judge -- the expert in streetwear -- above those of the recurring stylist and the hosts. If he felt that strongly that they should not go home, then they should not go home. His vote should carry more weight. Didn't get all the ponchos. I hated the blue trash poncho especially.
  13. I would have put any of the other 3 above the winning camel suit. It was a lovely, well-crafted suit, there is no question about that. But it is very now & commercial, something they usually get dinged for. The stylist saying he could see it at Bergdorf should not have been a compliment! The others also had great craft AND they were more creative. The shoulder on the pinstripes was gorgeous, as was the vibe of the charcoal wrap. In the end, I'd have dinged charcoal wrap for styling and given it to pinstripes. I really hate when fashion design contestants can't sew. Is his entire plan "have the other guy do all the implementation"? They are creating really good work, I can't fault the output of their partnership. But I want to smack Angelo on the regular. Also, Creative Director seems slightly wrong when he doesn't actually direct anything. He creates good ideas, then floats away. (FWIW, I went to art school. I have been a Creative Director. It's more than having big ideas, it's also overseeing the team to get the work done.) Such a disadvantage. They haven't explained how they were matched, right? My impression was singles could apply and then be matched or select each other. That was a terrible fit. I believe strongly in standing up for your creative vision and finding your voice. Especially for women! And yet, after she was so sure he was putting them on the bottom in the last challenge but they were on the top, I'd have thought she'd see that Julian's aesthetic was more in line with the judges. I didn't see the muddled conflict judges saw in their design this week -- I heard/saw only her, and it wasn't successful. Julian did the "right" thing by deferring to her since he bulldozed last week. That didn't pan out, just like the guy who went home last week for the same reason.
  14. I was hoping, for their sake, that they could create something restrained but also awesome. Nope! Julian came out on top by being a bulldozer and not listening to his loud-pattern-averse partner. Naresh compromised, as they're supposed to, and went home for it. I did think it was boring, though, with so much of that monochromatic, fussy, toile-type print. Mixing in a 3rd pattern might have helped, or breaking up the female outfit with the 2nd prints. Color would have helped. There had to have been a better solution than that. If I had to guess, not making their own print was probably the deciding factor even over being boring. The plaid guys created something new. However, if I'd been judging I might have instead tossed out the punk look or the third one on the bottom, the watercolor one, because I prefer boring to ugly. None of that together for me. The paperbag waist on the watercolor look was so unflattering. I liked where the plaid was headed but agree it felt old and not in a old-is-new way. Just old. I really don't like those guys on a personal level. Also had some quibbles with the top picks. The winner was fine, I really liked how the patterns were distinctly different and yet worked together extremely well. Didn't think the wedding story should have swung Prabal quite so much from "meh" to "OMG", and the tulle wasn't entirely successful. The African-inspired look was really good at first glance, great silhouette and vibe, but the border print felt so very literal -- why is there a zebra? because there are zebras in Africa. The cowmaflage was definitely not my taste but I can see why it was successful in an editorial-street-Insta way. I gave up on PR a few years ago. I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality coming down on the runway here, a big step up IMO.
  15. So now I'm really curious how you pronounce orphanage. Because for me, they 100% rhyme! Both end in an -idj sound.
  16. Hmm. My interpretation was that Zari was playing Nate, trying to get the truth about her brother and the totem. I didn't think she was actually into him. Totally saw the "It's Burbank" line coming.
  17. The writers are falling down on the job more so than the captain. This is easily a story Michaela could be telling to explain anonymous informants. It's still going to be fishy, but it's a better story than stonewalling. However, I was confused why Michaela chalked her solving this case up to an anonymous informant. She actually solved it with some (very speedy and convenient) legwork. She went to the room, talked to the roomie, figured out the prints were from the old materials, followed the trail of the badge, and arrested the guy. (IOW, doing Jared's job for him.) Where was the magical component? Did I miss it? This I definitely missed. Even with the explanation provided above, I have zero recollection of that scene! Granted, I don't pay the closest attention. 2 more thoughts: Saanvi was shutting down Coworker Mole HARD, she seemed cagey and cold. So when she gets to the faux therapist, she has that girly moment of "I think he asked me out! Ooh, and maybe I should get him to help me!" That was confusing. I hope Ben relays the info about the sequencer and gets her to tighten up ASAP. Saanvi may be lovely, but she is gullible. So is Olive, for that matter. I realize it was for plot purposes, but the 828 College Kid (why am I so bad with names?!) said he had ZERO pics of his mom. So, neither was on Facebook in 2012/13 or whenever they got lost? No one posted anything on FB as a tribute after he disappeared, and then she OD'd? Offline, he has no extended friends or family that had old pics? I get it, they had to make the art piece deeply meaningful. It's just the kind of thing my literal brain pings to.
  18. It was mostly sketches, but those sketches and their characters resonated with me a great deal! As a piece of art, its craft is flawed. As a thought piece, it was deeply moving. I'm still thinking about it weeks later, enough to come here and see what others had to say.

    Widows (2018)

I am not the type of person who worries about the dog, but I did here! It was so strange how she kept taking the dog everywhere and it was obviously going to be a plot point -- something big would happen to the dog or because of the dog. And of course, it DID happen in that the dog led her to Harry. (And they had to set up her taking the dog everywhere for that scene to make sense. Who takes a dog to someone's house and just drops them to run around?!) I was waiting for it to happen during a bigger action / end scene, so I didn't realize this was the payoff till later. I was truly shocked by that. It was a little hard to reconcile that he was THAT much of a bastard, based on the flashbacks and her love. In the beginning of the film, it was clear we weren't mean to like the men at all but I was like, oh Liam seems ok, but by the end NOPE. All creeps. This was a good setup bit. We saw that device earlier, it was a child's toy at Michelle Rodriguez's house. The girl used it to say something about the MIL. Holy cow, he seemed familiar but I did not realize that was him! His wife was the architect of the blueprint, so MR was visiting in hopes she would divulge the address of the property. Did they actually have her cards out still? I wasn't sure. MR took a bunch (which was smart thinking) but I don't remember if we saw confirmation that one of them was hers. Her home address wouldn't have been on the card anyway, so she could have gotten there via the internet.
  20. Holy cats, her Wikipedia entry is a quite a story! During the same years she was bearing 5 children, she also published 17 novels. That is incredible. If she writes for whole days at a time and has published that many books, she must be absolutely DRIVEN to write. Like, she can't not write. I was pulling for the guy on the right to take it in an upset. If the winner had bet bigger, it could have fallen into his lap! Not that I had any particular affinity for him, I just love when that happens. 🙂
  21. I'm on the fence, too. I got super impatient during the numbers and started fast forwarding. It felt like too many, too long. If it's going to stay like this, it may not be for me. The neighbor was great! And I'm also not a big musical fan so I"m aware I'm also not the target audience. (I tuned in for Jane Levy.) Once in a while I'll love one, though, so worth checking! My challenge with the gap is I only watch what I have Tivo season passes set up for. I do not look at the schedule or notice when things are on. I couldn't even tell you what night my fav shows are on! And I don't see show ads, because DVR. After watching a pilot I like, I automatically set up a season pass or record episode #2 if I'm on the fence. But I can't do that if the next epi isn't for weeks. I can't guarantee I'll find this show when it starts officially, and I'm not motivated to hunt.
  22. The team never got a chance to agree! Graham collected the coupons on his own, then told them he won a trip and assembled the cube inside of maybe 30 seconds? By the time the Doctor realized what it was and yelled at him to stop, it was too late. I quit during Capaldi's run -- didn't connect with his Doctor (or Bill) AT ALL. Came back for this Doctor and she's fine and I like the companions. The characters all work for me, but the stories don't. I used to love love this show. I'm not sure if I've changed or it has. (TBF it could be me. My interest in wacky space TV does seem to have gone down.)
  23. I absolutely believe we're NOT supposed to think Midge is awful. Flawed, yep, but not awful. That's in line with other polarizing Palladino protagonists like Lorelai Gilmore. Midge is extraordinarily privileged yet still painted as an underdog of sorts. Beloved, quirky, witty, and charming on one hand yet self-centered, self-sabotaging, and deeply flawed on the other. Quirky is what they're going for, then the writers go too far and lead characters end up coming across as totally obnoxious at times. But believe ASP's intent is for us to find them human and lovably flawed, not irredeemable jerks.
  24. This is my take. I believe she believed she had full permission from Reggie to say what she did -- she went too far (as she does) but she was unintentionally set up for that. However, she didn't honor her agreement to Shy. That's what matters, and it was not ok. Midge can be terribly thoughtless. No disagreement there! But I disagree she says horrible things thinking she can get away with them because she's cute/charming/bulletproof. It feels more like recklessness and self-sabotage. She doesn't think at all when she riffs like that. Is there a difference between thoughtlessness and assholery? Maybe not, in effect. She creates a lot of negative impact, which is what matters and can't be waved away, but I don't think she does any of it intentionally. She acts, then thinks. I am guessing we won't see Susie arrested for burning down the house, if only because that's just too serious for this show. Having Susie gamble Midge's earnings is pretty shocking and I hope we'll see more fallout. Will Susie remain her manager? (After doing a pretty shitty job, as qtpye noted). Probably yes, but there should be a reckoning. And will Midge get the lost money back? Maybe not, because plot. Color me entirely unsurprised that taking on Sophie blew up. That wasted a lot of screen time for...nothing interesting. Except we got to see Cary Elwes.
