Dining With The Chef - General Discussion

Yeah, that was an odd technique. -
My first guess is that JJ thought a wave was a water park. Which would be okay, I guess, since some physical problems are helped with water activities like aerobics.
-
If people really did know that and really understood that, then the current practice of using skin color to define "race" would not be used because it would have changed sooner than later. Good point. But it still doesn't negate the idea that Lucious is with Anika because he's using her socioeconomic background/status and her educational status to increase his own, imo. It's like Mike Tyson and his marriage to a pediatrician some years ago. I think they're going to Stephen Hawking him. Which would be a challenging role for Terrence Howard or any actor: playing a man who is slowly losing his body function and needing to rely on others to do things for him as simple as wiping his nose.

My guess is that Obama is identified as the first black president, rather than the first biracial president, in order to keep things simple for simple minds. Anyhow, to me, Andre and Lucious are using women (Rhonda and Anika) to gain credibility and status. That's why I view Andre's "bringing home that white woman" on the same level with Lucious bringing home that upper middle class, Julliard educated, debutante woman.

Motown 25 is great. (Your PBS station really blew it!) Another good one they've shown on PBS is the T.A.M.I. Show because it has James Brown. Over the years, I'd heard James Brown's performance on the TAMI sho was his best, and there weren't any copies of it available. But they found a copy and digitally remastered it. When I saw it---------it completely blew me away! The level of his dancing was absolutely insane. And I'm pretty sure if I was one of those teens in the audience watching it live, I would be screaming like they were. Youtube had clips of James Brown on TAMI.

Was she the plaintiff in that weird car catches fire case?

The average black person and white person need to start watching Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Dr. Gates' other shows because he's found that nearly all African Americans are biracial or "multiracial"---vast majority are mixed with European and a very, very, incredibly small minority are mixed with Native American.

I hope they do more "artisan" episodes. -
This happens ALOT with the patients who come to this office. They give us a telephone number, forget to give us the new one which they change every 2 or 3 months, and get upset that the doctor didn't call them with the test results or whatever. Same thing happens with "home addresses". They have to put a home address on their registration form. Sometimes that is either a fake address or their mother's/girlfriend's/whoever's address. Fish-flusher looked like he had a few potent potables before his court appearance, imo. Also, if the fish tank had a hole in it, why didn't the guy bail the water out to below that level before he left for work or have girlfriend bail the water? Sorry if I'm not up to date with fish tanks (the last one I owned was when I was 10 and it held maybe 5 gallons), but we never used a hose to suction water when we cleaned the tank: we bailed with a old cottage cheese container.

Ah, I see you and I are discussing apples and oranges because my opinions are based upon socioeconomics, not race. Because Anika is from a higher socioeconomic background and educational level than Lucious, it makes him less street (ie: more acceptable) to white people if he's with her rather than Cookie. Socioeconomically, Lucious and his sons are in the same position that the industrialists of the late 19th Century were in: "new money". The way JP Morgan, Cornelius Vanderbilt, etc. became "acceptable" by sending their sons to the Ivy League and marrying their daughters off to European royalty and nobility. By showing that their families not only had money but education and status with "Society", they became more acceptable and accepted.
-
My point was if Andre's motivation for marrying Rhonda was to gain credibility and status among white people (as Lucious implied), then Lucious marrying Anika is also an attempt to gain credibility and status among white people too because Anika is upper middle class and graduated from Julliard). Lucious is street and most likely a self taught musician (or if he did have music lessons it wasn't on a Julliard-like level). To me, Anika is a trophy just like Rhonda. And Lucious is a big hypocrite because he's using Anika for the same reasons that Andre uses Rhonda---credibility and status.

Cookie guest starring on The Partridge Family. The episode occurs shortly after the Soul Club (guest starring Richard Pryor and Lou Gossett Jr) episode. The Family needs to record another album. Still thinking how great the Family did with the firehouse block party, Reuben suggests the album is produced by Cookie. Fun and laughs occur when the Family boards the psychedelic bus and head to the Big Apple. Enter Cookie in her fabulous 70s funkadelic fashions. Cookie adds enough soul into the Family's sound that they have their first crossover hit album and land an appearance on Soul Train. But first both families must get over Hakeem and Laurie going on a date. (Episode Title: Partridges in the Lyon's Den)
-
That's true. If the parents were legally married at the birth of the child, the husband is the legal father (even if he isn't the biologic father). But if I were the Lyons, I'd still get a DNA test.

So BM suing BD and BD suing his Auntie? Or is it BD suing Auntie only?

As the poster who mentioned kidney and lungs, I agree with you that the nitpicking IS sad. In fact, it's so incredibly sad that that I made no mention about the shelf life of kidneys and liver in that post and yet it became an issue. Sad.
-
That also depends on the organ. kidneys and liver need to be used almost immediately (within hours). Corneas can be stored for a couple of weeks. Blood and blood products can be stored for months. Bone can be stored for a few years, iirc.
-
Thanks for that. The county libraries in my state do not have copy of that book. Does the book mention Hari or Daphne's daughter Parvati?
-
Yeah, there's nothing to stop them from drugging Fish and removing kidneys and liver, then dumping her somewhere. (Or having Fish wake up in a bath tub full of ice and a note nearby directing her to call 911 immediately because her organs have been removed.) ;-)

Maybe those are DIY tats? That floored me too. The mom and daughter looked the same age. Shame on me, but the daughter's clothes, hair and makeup gave me the impression that she was in jail for solicitation.
-
Cookie: I'm glad she's adjusting to life outside of jail and picking up where she left off being a music producer. I'm glad she dumped Lucious. She deserves someone better. I KNEW the minute she saw Camilla she sized up Hakeem's mommy abandonment issues. And I'm happy they've taken the first step to building a relationship. Hakeem: He finally got some sense knocked into his brain and figured out that Camilla was manipulating him regarding going last the Legacy project. It's good to see that he and Jamal are still tight. Jamal: Loved that he was spending quality time with Lola. BUT seriously.........they need to call Maury or go on Lauren Lake's Paternity Court show to get a DNA test,. if they're too cheap to pay for one themselves. Okay, it's possible to get pregnant after one time, but Jamal and the family really need to know for sure that Lola is a Lyon. I don't want them to get attached to Lola, vice versa, only to have Lola taken away. Andre: When he said that he felt left out of the family because he wasn't musically talented, my heart broke. Whoring himself and pimping out Rhonda to make business deals shows, to me, how little Andre thinks of himself (and Rhonda) in spite of his academic degrees. It also makes me question if he didn't whore his way to get those grades. Annika: She really can't use the dirt on Lucious ("forcing" her father to commit healthcare fraud) against Lucious without bring her father down too. IRL, judges don't accept the excuse "But judge, I was forced to commit healthcare fraud because for my family/my reputation/etc." Dr. Calhoun is toast if Annika goes public about Lucious's fraudulent clean bill of health. Lucious: His behavior regarding Jamal coming out was bad (but expected), but his hatred towards Andre was equally bad, but unexpected. So Lucious thinks that Andre married a "white woman" to attain acceptance? What, then, does he think about his relationship with a debutante, daughter of a big shot doctor? Case of the pot calling the kettle 'Andre', imo.

If she's on TAR, she HAS to be on it with Portia!
