  1. Re-run of Chakin Sushi. Saito does a good job plating food. It doesn't look forced. His chakin sushi is scary because it's too pretty to eat. So far, I'm liking the new host. At least she doesn't seal clap...........yet.
  2. Hey, you made it! :-) The fish free sushi wasn't a rerun, at least I don't think it was. The suggestion to use lettuce instead of nori made the sushi look more like Korean lettuce wrapped dishes. Patrick seems to be getting worse with each episode. Everything is "WOOONNNE-derful" or "Ah-MAAAAAAY-zing". Shut up and let Rika get on with the food.
  3. I wondered about that too. But it made them take her more seriously. Also, what will happen to Lucy and her job at Scotland Yard? slightly off topic, I hope the social media campaign will make ITV see that TBC is a worthwhile drama and renew it for another series.
  4. Fish-free sushi is on schedule for Sunday-Monday.
  5. I have to watch it on-line because my PBS station airs it too late (well, it's late for me to watch it on a Sunday night). I think Jean's a bit bitchy about Susan's hesistancy to rejoin them.
  6. They might be too busy with the mid-wifery work. Anyhow, that cute prison parson/curate gave Trixie the eye. Besides he's cute. I thought the head lice infesting Jenny and Cynthia was very real too.
  7. Egads! I hope Dr. Turner doesn't come down with some illness too!
  8. Oh damn! I missed an ecig case??? 7-Eleven sells them in my neck of the woods.
  9. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I bet this is the only show from Japan, produced in Japan, broadcast from Japan featuring real Japanese chefs cooking Japanese food in the forums. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! Editing to add a little blurb about "Dining with the Chef". It's shown on NHK world and streamlined on their website (http://www.nhk.or.jp/dwc/). It's really 2 shows in one, alternating between "Rika's Toyko Cuisine" episodes and "Authentic Japanese Cooking" episodes. Both introduce viewers to Japanese cuisine (aka "washuko") beyond sushi and teriyaki.
  10. I wonder how many times that statement is answered with "Yeah right!" followed by a click and a dial tone.
  11. I think they're following the books with the biracial baby storylines. IIRC there were 2 or 3 biracial baby situations addressed in them. PS Charlotte Vale, I'm glad to see you here and did I ever tell you I read and enjoyed (except the last one) all of Olive Prouty's Vale novels about 10 years ago, so your handle always makes me smile ?
  12. Bummer that Jenny and Trixie are sharing a room because in real-life Jennifer Worth and Cynthia Miller became best friends while working in Poplar and that friendship lasted throughout their life. I thought they were going to show Jenny and Cynthia becoming BFFs this season after the way Jenny and Cynthia bonded after Cynthia lost confidence.
  13. I have a feeling she calls witnesses if the litigant(s) changes their testimony from what's written on the statement or if something isn't clear to her. For example, she called a police officer once and asked him questions regarding his incident report.
  14. I read all three books last year. The third book gave more information about Sister Monica Joan's background and I hope they include that in the series at some point
  15. Not only for women of those days. When I worked at a Children's Hospital, there was a baby with a relatively rare genetic disorder. Both parents carried the trait. Anyhow, the mom was at the baby's bedside all day and most of the night during the baby's hospital stay. One evening the baby stopped breathing and while the docs treated the baby, the mom sat at the nurse's station in tears, muttering over and over again that she's a horrible mother, that the baby's genetic disorder was all her fault, etc. the social worker happened to be there for another child and together we had to reassure the mom. I noticed that about moms in general: whenever their children are ill they believe it's their fault because they aren't being good moms and they feel very, very guilty about it.

    The Lexicon

Thanks angela, that's the page I remember.
  17. I love this. It can get a little too close to the Saccharine Line for me, but it manages to hold off----at least the first seasons did......from what I've been hearing about this season, not too much. What I didn't like about the episode is the Royal Visit from HRH, The Princess Margaret. Sure Chummy's dad is/was some governor general in India but Chummy writing to the Palace then getting an almost immediate response was too contrived. And the line about Princess Margaret being royality and like a Hollywood celebrity was lifted right out of a BBC documentary. I don't think Chummy or anyone in 1950s UK would have said that.

    The Lexicon

Is anyone keeping a JJ Dictionary list? IIRC, years ago someone had a Judy Judy Lexicon on line. Anyhow, some words: bickerment borrow (as in "I borrowed her the money") boughten conversate (but it's now in OED,from what I understand) fraudulate tooken wroten
  19. I guess CF too. Salty babies. I love that Trixie's hair is beginning to look like Marilyn's hair circa 1963.
  20. Oooo, 'wroten' can be the next entry in JJ dictionary.
