  1. NA 2007 and Persuasion came the closest to the books. There were things in both that were altered for tv. Mansfield Park was the worst. I think Billie Piper's Fanny came across as having some kind of mental disability rather than being reserved and shy.
  2. The snakes are squatters.
  3. I liked Persuasion for one reason: Rupert Penry-Jones. The one thing I disliked about NA 2007 version is that I watched the Robin Hood season 1 DVD a few months prior and when Mr. Thorpe appeared on screen, I kept seeing him as Royston White, screaming "I am Royston White. I fight for Robin Hood and the King".
  4. I'm going to rewatch Northhanger Abbey 2007 starring Felicity Jones and JJ Feild (possibly the second most adorable Mr. Tilney--Wishbone is the most adorable) Anyone want to join me? It's currently on youtube, so download/watch while it's available.
  5. I love the 60s comedies (except The Monkees--I don't understand that show at all). Those comedies are truly junk food comedies. Nothing to analyze. Nothing to give you pause for thought. Just funny. I think the change from comedy to comedy with a message was All In The Family. After that comedies changed in the way that they made you laugh, then made you ashamed for laughing.
  6. Now this is a case I would have LOVED to see on a TV Court show (any show, but JJ's reaction would be priceless.) http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/this-maryland-family-says-their-dream-home-is-infested-with-snakes-they-want-their-money-back/2015/06/03/1f8cd37c-0a09-11e5-9e39-0db921c47b93_story.html
  7. My vote is 1. MeTV 2. Antennae 3. Cosi 4. REtro (the tv in our guest room can pick it up on clear days. But the only shows worth watching, imo are Dr. Who and One Step Beyond.)
  8. Whoa! I was up early packing lunches for the kids and Mr. Milz . I saw an episode of I've Got A Secret. Lucille Ball was the guest. And she had to portray different emotions while the answering the panel's questions. The panel had to figure out her "secret". And she stumped the panel. But her range of acting these emotions (excitement, sad, dignified, etc.) was great.
  9. We watched some of the programs yesterday. The kids are loving it, especially Let's Make a Deal and Card Sharks.
  10. I think it was 20/20 that did a show about disability frauds. They went "undercover" with investigators who follow people suspected of gaming the system. One woman was on disability for a foot injury which prevented her from standing. They took photos of her in a beauty contest, not only standing, walking and dancing but doing these activities in high heels. Another woman had an ankle injury that prevented her from walking: she was videoed running while wearing high heels. There was a man who had a back injury: they videoed him lifting large objects and hefting them onto a truck bed. So, it won't surprise me if there are investigators watching JJ making a case against the litigants on disability who water ski, dirt bike ride, etc. I hate people who game the system, especially when there are people who truly ARE disabled and who don't get the disability benefits.......grrrrrr
  11. I think Sarah and Guy definitely saw that the old system was ending and the lack of a peaceful transition was a product of the old system. The background of the first book is an unnamed reporter/author returns to India 20 or so years after the Manner's case to interview the people who were involved in it. That bit of information makes reading it better, because it's organized like someone going to one place, interviewing people, then going to another place interviewing people there, etc. the first book has a lot of background information about India and the Raj, which helps you understand the rest of the series. You have the British class system, where missionaries like Barbie are "lower" than a military housewife, who's lower than the widow of a knight. And there's the Indian class system, where a Rajput princess like Lady Chatterjee is "higher" than Pandit Baba. And then there's the intersection of the British class system and the Indian class system. Lady Chatterjee and the Nawab of Mirat are among the highest of the Indian class system, but they are lower than Barbie in the context of the British class system. And then there are the people who don't quite fit in like Hari and Merrick.
  12. It depends on how severe the ER doctor thinks the problem is. But the ER doctor can write a work excuse letter. There's actually a book that gives the number of days for a given condition (most fall into the 3-4 day category). The ER doctor can prescribe pain meds, but some states are becoming more strict about how many pills ("day's supply of") can be written. Most of the patients who come here often don't make the appointment until the ER prescription runs out or they call to make the appointment on the day the ER papers say to follow up. I'm not sure if there's a miscommunication in the ER or what, but that's what happens here.
  13. My husband noticed that our local Fox affiliate added this new digital channel. It's supposed to launch tonight (June 1) according to what I've googled. http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/tv/2015/06/01/monty-hall-wayne-brady-talk-classic-game-shows-as-new-format-buzzr-tv-launches/28175837/ Anyhow, I loved the Richard Dawson Family Feuds and Love Connection (no indication that LC will air on this channel, but one can hope....). Other game shows I liked as a kid were The Gong Show and To Tell The Truth (one can hope these will be on this channel too.)
  14. Celebrity Vicar
  15. People do really crazy stuff. We have women who bring their boyfriend's children for doctor's appointments or women who make doctor's appointments for their boyfriend. I think it was a recent JJ where the guy got upset because JJ said his girlfriend's children weren't his children and in the halterview, he said that the children call him "Daddy" or something like that.
  16. Okay, my curiosity is peaked. Please explain (here or in the Andy Griffith forum).
  17. LMAO! About the Dibley choir, I love the Choir Master (I think his name is Cecil). Another scene that made (and still makes me laugh) is Jim's striptease at the charity talent show. The audience's faces are such a classic mixture of horror, shock, and disgust, especially when Jim removes his thong.
  18. If the guy's name was Charlie Allnut, it would have made my day.
  19. I think the first Vicar episode I saw was Songs of Praise. At first I was like "what?", but during the choir auditions I was laughing so hard I was in tears.
  20. No. The litigants are "adults" who get into a brawl during a little league game. The reason is "he insulted my African Queen."
  21. Does anyone here live in Baltimore or is closer to it than the 50 mile drive I have? http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-county/towson/ph-tt-paint-and-powder-club-0527-20150522-story.html
  22. Today is the African Queen repeat!
  23. I hate that they changed the time and day for this show. I keep missing it!
  24. I loved the fireplace at the Old Lodge.
  25. Scott Bakula was one of my "tv boyfriends" when I was a teenager. REgarding the "Summer of Me".......I have to find some other station to watch because Saved By the Bell, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirly, and The Brady Bunch don't make the top 100 of my fav tv show list.
