  1. Now that I think about it, having Alex steal the Discriminator is kind of genius: you can’t charge a seven year old with a felony. At least on Earth, Mars law has yet to be written.
  2. So much love and respect for Sergei. I liked how he reminded Aleida that she owes her career to Margo. He doesn’t do this to make Aleida feel guilty (I think) but rather to offer perspective.
  3. But the cars in this series are more advanced than IRL. They already had electric cars well before we did. So an era-correct car is kind of disappointing to me. Contrary to popular belief, Apple shows do not have an unlimited budget, a point that was frequently brought of in the official Foundation podcast. I would imagine that cars of the 00’s FAMverse would look different and even the car companies themselves could be different thanks to the butterfly effect. But this is not what Apple+ chose to spend money on. I do wonder if the FAMverse cars of the era would be primarily little sedans or huge SUVs and pickups. Probably some of each. It’s been suggested that the rise in large car sales starting in our own 00’s and continuing until now was, in part, a reaction to 9/11. Would this trend had been as extreme without 9/11? The mind boggles!
  4. Yes, this has been the weakest season thus far. Ed needs to die in a spectacular, heroic, redemptive fashion.
  5. I did like Sergei's era-correct car. My Mom once owned a Prius like that. Gorgeous shot of Kelly and the Crater. Mars is so much more than Happy Valley.
  6. Oh Sergei! Was his wife part of his original family or did he remarry and does this new wife not know about his past? She didn't have a Russian accent. I have to admit I immediately thought "Alex!" when they needed someone small to crawl through the vent. You can't expect the kid to be tidy, I'm sure that tipped off people the next time the "Secure" storeroom was checked. They don't have security cameras in there? I wonder what Ed's cover story would have been if Alex was caught. Kelly is going to be furious when she finds out, but she is being a bit overprotective. In time she will come to accept that Alex is more suited to life on Mars then anyone else in Happy Valley. Alex will store the memory as an adventure with his crazy grandpa. This season is dragging, do the asteroid capture/heist thing already!
  7. Maybe the Gorn are a bit like the Cylons in that regard.
  8. I recently saw Lance R in his final role: a military lawyer type in an update of The Cain Mutiny Court Marshal. The film was dedicated to him. Lance brought his usual natural authority and gravitas to that role.
  9. Or they have something like that in their alcoves.
  10. I always imagined them as musty and gross. 🤢 How would Borg even shower?
  11. I'm reminded of this beautiful quote from Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles, you can substitute "people" for "men": “The Men of Earth came to Mars. They came because they were afraid or unafraid, because they were happy or unhappy, because they felt like Pilgrims or did not feel like Pilgrims. There was a reason for each man. They were leaving bad wives or bad towns; they were coming to find something or leave something or get something, to dig up something or bury something or leave something alone. They were coming with small dreams or large dreams or none at all...it was not unusual that the first men were few. The numbers grew steadily in proportion to the census of Earth Men already on Mars. There was comfort in numbers. But the first Lonely Ones had to stand by themselves...”
  12. Astronomers can make educated guesses about the composition of exoplanets in other star systems, but it is by no means a sure thing. They would need a sample of Goldilocks to know for sure.
  13. The Parmesan bit makes we wonder what kind of food they are growing on Mars. Must be all vegetarian. Meat and Dairy needs to be imported or is a black market item.
  14. Dev is playing 12 dimensional chess. I think he’s going to screw the people who accepted his offer because they aren’t dedicated enough or something. I predict Alex will never leave Mars. It would be hilarious of it turns out that the initial reading of Goldilocks was wrong, and if that asteroid is not filled with Unobtainium, but is in fact an unremarkable ball of rock like thousands of other balls of rock. I don't know why I care, but where is Miles? Did he end up with Dev or Ed. I'm guessing Dev.
  15. I still want to know what is going on with Lee. If he was officially the First Person on Mars he should be celebrated as a great hero in NK. It seems like he doesn't even want to be on Mars, he would rather be back on Earth with his wife whom he is desperate to reunite with.
  16. Joel Kinnaman is 44 and looks very, very good! It's jarring to see him in other roles or in photos of him IRL.
  17. Hitting the Moon could alter it's orbit, which would have big consequences for Earth in terms of tides and other things. Also, the Moon in the 2003 FAMverse is quite populated.
  18. If one did, mining said asteroid will not be top of mind, colliding with Earth would be. The plan to bring Goldilocks to Earth is dangerous because if the thing goes off course Earth could be facing a possible extinction event.
  19. I'm sure assigning Alida a less than luxurious hotel was a power play. So Dani is religious. I suppose that was implied in the flashback to when she gave a bible to Danny. I'm assuming it was her own Bible.
  20. “The Sand Pebbles”. Haven’t read it, but I’m sure it has significance. I must admit that drunk, semi-unemployed Ed is a riot. He starts a labour movement because he’s bored. Miles is slightly smarter than he looks although I’m sure his power play will go sideways. The scene between Margo and Alida was great. I want more space action!!!
  21. Was that handsome guy in Dani's vid-call Dani's husband? I forgot that she was married. Yes, he will try to take over everything while claiming that he's being democratic,
  22. In order for Mars to eventually become its own society they are going to need children. (Unless your strategy is to rely solely on immigration ) Kelly, intentionally or not, has just offered up Alex as a test case in how that would work, and the Helios and NASA docs would jump at the chance to study him. The poor kid. Alex can go to Mars, the question is if he will be able to return to Earth. I'm already speculating that in the 2020's or 2030's Alex will lead the Independent Mars Movement or something.
  23. My only concern about Sabi leaving for Berlin is that it’s not clear where Sabi is in terms of their gender transitioning. Although I’m sure that medical treatment is available in Berlin, the cost to a non-German could be prohibitive, even with Sabi’s inheritance. Once again, as a cis person I must confess ignorance here.
  24. So Danny committed suicide by letting his suit run out of air or something? Or he just wondered outside weakened by hunger and expired there? Pretty dark either way. Danny’s widow (can’t remember her name) seemed to be on good terms with Danielle in episode one, so she must not know the whole truth. I can see why Helios/NASA would have covered the whole thing up, or even fabricate a lie about Danny dying heroically.
