Was the Irish team actually guilty of doping, or did Silver manage to alter the results because he is evil? I’m not looking for realism, but could the karatakas please wear mouth guards to protect their pretty Hollywood mouths? That brawl was spectacular.

All motivational speeches and zero technical instruction.

I read that the actress who plays Zara is a Taekwondo champion. Which is not the same as Karate, but whatever. Tall CK guy looks like a live action anime character
-
I kind of hope that some other dojo than Miyagi or CK wins. It would be a good lesson, to learn that winning isn’t everything, having a great experience is important too. kodos to the fight choreographers, are those the actual actors or stunt doubles?

I saw that! I want to know how the Kelvin timeline hat got in there.

The gift store is the Amazon of Easter Eggs. Worth a close look.

Star Trek: The Next Generation - General Discussion
marinw replied to SunShine Gal's topic in Star Trek: The Next Generation
I remember TT from 24, where he played an African dictator who invaded the White House in a wonderful bit of Reverse Colonialism. He will be missed. -
I think part of Boimler's appeal is that he is the ultimate Trekkie who finds himself in a Trek Universe. His shear enthusiasm for the world he is lucky enough to live in is charming (and I'm envious).
-
Boimler would love Klingon bureaucrat minutia!

S05.E03: The Best Exotic Nanite Hotel
marinw replied to AnimeMania's topic in Star Trek: Lower Decks
I have to remind myself that T’Lynn has only been a main cast member for the last two seasons, she fits in so well with the other the Lower Deckers. -

It would be great if LD went full Apocalypse Now chasing down an off-the-grid Admiral on a luxury cruise ship. -

I loved T’Lynn meeting her music hero and connecting with him. -

Using the now-useless currency of one civilization to settle the debt of the faction of another society seems a little ethically suspect. I can see the Ferengi swooping down into such worlds to "relieve" them of their gold and other money-type things. With some civilizations such as he Ferengi, post-scarcity technology does not lead to the abandonment of Capitalism. Ditto for the Orions.

I'm starting to compare LD to The Orville. Another show that started as a "Tribute" to ST shows but soon became its' own thing. I feel that LD has matured to the point that it now holds up on its own, occupying its own place in the ST Universe.

Good point.I didn't even think about the kidneys.

CMIIW, but livers regrow. Ian could have given Spencer (or the EF captain) just part of his own liver.

Star Trek: Lower Decks in the Media
marinw replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Star Trek: Lower Decks
The Wrath of Khan theme is my favourite ST music along with the TOS Fight Music. -
Pike twirling the Lirpa like a baton is everything.

Although this show is ridiculous (in a great way IMO), it does do a good job of exploring the difference between respecting or admiring someone, and worshipping them.

Tory goes to the dark side. Literally with the black gi, in case the good/evil imagery wasn’t obvious enough🙄 I may be alone here, but I am enjoying the exploration of Miyagi’s past. It shows that putting someone on a pedestal will always disappoint. Miyagi was someone, and then became someone else. Cue the inevitable backstory prequel series🙄

Thanks for the reminder. It's been so long since last season! A yellow belt opening his own dojo is the height of. hubris!
-
Stingray was wearing a yellow belt for some reason.
-
*Raises Hand*. I practice Shotokan Karate IRL, and I don't expect this show to be the tiniest bit realistic. That said, the belt thing does drive me a little crazy, how the kids wear white belts while training and Black belts in competition. That's not how belts work!!! There are some Martial arts (Like some styles of Aikido) where there are only white and black belts. If Danny and Johnny decided to do away with Kyu (Coloured belts or junior) ranks for this particular style of Karate, then fine, but you are either a black belt are you aren't.
