  1. For a minute or two I thought it would turn out to be the song that Raj and Howard's band did. The joke being that even their friends didn't remember their song. I'm glad they didn't go there though.
  2. Sheldon has always been pretty selective with regard to what aspects of popular culture he knows about. I was more surprised he even knew who the Beach Boys were than that he didn't know some app or another might be around that might help him find a song. I can also see him not wanting to buy an app for the sake of identifying one song. I am assuming these apps aren't free even if they're cheap. Aside from which I don't think he wanted anyone to tell him the song, it was driving him mad because he didn't believe he was capable of forgetting anything, he needed to remember it on his own.
  3. I really enjoyed this episode as well. And maybe it was just me but did it seem longer to anyone else? Maybe it's just that I've finally adjusted to so many commercials! Like others I knew (even with the spoilers) that it was just a matter of time before they brought Amy and Sheldon together but I wasn't sure how they were going to do it. I admit, I liked it :).
  4. Sorry I realize my wording was clumsy. I meant that the criticism was directed at the Leonard and Penny relationship that's why I went on to say that Amy and Sheldon were an example of a couple who do have a lot in common.
  5. In many ways Sheldon and Amy are far better suited than Leonard and Penny. Both here and on TWOP a recurring criticism I've heard about them is that they have nothing in common and that must mean they couldn't possibly have a realistic relationship. I disagree with that because I've never bought the idea that people have to agree on everything and walk in lockstep to be a couple, however for those who do feel that way Sheldon and Amy are a classic example of a couple who share many common interests, have comparable educations and intelligence levels and have similar attitudes towards life. Aside from Amy wanting to move the relationship further than Sheldon has been comfortable with I'd think they'd be the dream couple. Maybe we're seeing the Three Bears at work: Leonard and Penny are too different; Sheldon and Amy are too much the same; Bernie and Howard are just right?
  6. I was curious about that too and when I looked him up I found that though he is from Germany (and his father was originally from Austria) his family relocated to the US in 1990. I'm not sure how old he is but given he's been in the US for 25 years and graduated from high school there I'm not convinced what we're hearing is a "thick German accent" - which is how I've seen it described from various sources. I think there is a trace of an accent but mostly it is a speech impediment -which makes the way Darrel and Brandon mock him pretty toolish.
  7. I can't remember when she first talks about Gerard but it is around the time Leonard is dating Priya and Penny is not in a relationship and is wistful about Leonard. The talk about having her brain stimulated to achieve orgasm though does occur in the first episode where we meet Amy so while she may have been presented as someone who did not want a physical relationship she knew there were some benefits that she liked. A lot!
  8. When we were househunting a few years ago the agent showing us houses refused to believe we actually wanted separate rooms on the main floor. I don't need doors blocking off each room but I also didn't intend to buy a house where the entire living area was one big room. I like separate areas so I can have a private conversation with my daughter (or whoever) and my husband can still be watching TV or talking to someone else. I can see the desire for a more open plan when the kids are small but I'm betting at least some of these homebuyers are throwing up some walls when their kids hit the teen years!
  9. In defense of Dan and Laura, Dave came over being belligerent (as usual) and unless this was producer driven I can see where they had just had it with that obnoxious little man and decided to draw a line in the sand. Whatever happened though between Dan and Dave it was clear to me that Dave shoved Laura, That this seems to have just been handwaved away in subsequent episodes makes me think that the fight was scripted or Dave came across with a handsome apology and a big cheque off screen,
  10. I know the back stories are usually misleading, to say the least! But it annoyed me that the episode with the American girl moving to Barcelona was made in 2015 (or at least was first aired then anyway) and made it sound like she'd just moved there when 30 seconds on google showed she'd actually moved there in 2011. I don't know if she was really apartment hunting or not but it certainly wasn't because she'd just moved to Spain!
  11. I've found this season to be a real improvement on last year - and to be honest I didn't dislike last year's shows either, just found the year a bit uneven - but this year I've laughed out loud a few times and there are some episodes that I know I will want to watch again. Sure it's not got the freshness of the first few years of BBT but that's to be expected. As long as it can make me laugh and care about the characters I will watch. That said, I am not sure about this latest development either.
  12. That kind of stuff is usually done though in the mistaken belief that it can bolster flagging ratings. Are the ratings for BBT slipping? If not and they're running out of story ideas I wish they'd take a leaf from Everybody Loves Raymond's book and quit while they're ahead.
  13. I've never seen Sheldon as asexual (or Aperger's for that matter). To me he stopped maturing when he was about 12 and has spent most of his adult life emulating Mr Spock. Something both he and the other characters have talked about from time to time over the years. He's becoming a real person and not just a guy who wishes he was a robot more and more as the show has progressed and especially as his relationship with Amy has developed. Sheldon will always be Sheldon I hope but if his maturation into a fully formed adult is handled well I'll be happy, I still don't want to see him and Amy in bed though.
  14. Thinking it over I'm just glad, considering the shameless plundering from Friends, that they didn't pull a "we were on a break" crap with Amy and Sheldon. Sheldon accepted that Amy could date if she wanted to and they didn't endlessly debate what being on a break actually means. So yay for that :).
  15. I agree they shouldn't rush Amy and Sheldon back together but I don't think Sheldon should be dating anyone else. He was never interested in dating at all until Amy came along, and even with Amy it took awhile for him to admit she was anything other than a friend who was a girl. Sheldon loves Amy that doesn't mean he's ready to try and love someone else.
  16. Well I'll be counting on the good people here to let me know what happens in that episode before I even begin to watch it! I agree with others posting above, there are some things I do not want to see!
  17. I don't know how to word this without sounding shallow but it kind of bothered me that the new guy in Amy's life was not exactly classically handsome while the new gal for Sheldon was gorgeous.
  18. We have a neighbourhood like that near me. Real estate agents and other interested parties keep insisting it is in transition. No one has gotten around to telling the hookers and drug dealers that though. It's been "in transition" for over 10 years now. I really wouldn't have wanted to have bought there counting on being able to sell for a fortune when the big transition actually happens.
  19. I'd like to see him say some snotty condescending "must be your time of the month" comment to her! Not that he would - which does show that he has some awareness that certain comments are inappropriate even if he acts like he doesn't actually know that at all!
  20. To be fair Sheldon doesn't treat anyone particularly nicely as a general thing, It's part of his charm.
  21. That is for the visually impaired it's called "descriptive video service". You may have inadvertently hit a button on your remote control that triggered this service or it could have been aired in that format by TBS by mistake.
  22. I wouldn't say he happily agreed to it. My recollection of that episode was that he wasn't at all happy about it at all. They didn't really discuss it but it was more the expression on his face than anything else that said to me he was thinking "oh crap". He wanted to be a dad but he didn't want to do the drudge work involved in child care anymore than Bernadette did.
  23. I wondered about that in that first (and I think only up to now?) episode where they talked about kids. It was like they thought that Bernadette not wanting kids really came down to Bernadette not wanting to quit her job. And since when is that an issue anymore for most parents? Utterly bizarre. They made it very clear Bernadette didn't like children and that's not the same thing at all as not wanting to stay home with children. Do the writers really assume most women have to quit their jobs if they want to have a baby? And there are a lot more hours in the day than the hours spent at work. Is Bernadette going to completely ignore any child she might have and never have anything to do with them? Obviously not! But you have to wonder if the writers of the show actually know anyone who has kids and kept a job. ETA: I really messed up the quote feature!! Sorry if this makes reading my post confusing!
  24. I like the ones who compromise and get the cheaper place because they say they're in Europe and want to use what money they have to travel and take advantage of where they are lucky enough to be living! The ones who reach up to the most expensive place because it's city centre or because they can't imagine the horror of not living with American appliances for what usually turns out to be a whole year (insert rolling eyes here) just work my last nerve!
  25. I've never heard of Tinder (but then I'm not the ages of the people on BBT) but I'd guess it's the same way a group of women that age aren't supposed to know anything about Star Trek or Star Wars. I've seen others here rant about this so I know I'm not alone in my annoyance at this - sure maybe obsessed fandom is a guy thing (maybe) but Star Trek and especially Star Wars are pretty mainstream, you don't have to be a big fan to at least have heard of them and seen a few of the movies if nothing else!
