My late mother-in-law went by "Jennie" but the name on her birth certificate was the Italian "Giovannina." My husband also had an Aunt Jenny, not a nickname, on his father's side and she would be over 100 if she was still alive. I doubt Jenny (Slatten) is a Jennifer since the name was pretty much unheard of 60 years ago, but it could be a nickname for Regina instead of the usual Gina. I think close captioning is computer generated and nobody monitors it. Mistakes are common (and often hilarious) during live broadcasts but they can occur during recorded programming as well.
