  1. I still wonder if some of the 'makeovers' are just looking for a reality show gig. Wacky outfits = attention. Nice to have company on this thread! :)
  2. If I was him, I'd be mulling over all of my possible backstories and parentage/lineage hopefuls and choose the one I liked best. The truth will continue to be out there, John Black.
  3. A pet parrot. Narcissism. An addiction to validation and self-worth from a man. Can't be without one for five minutes. No signs of being as spunky and adventurous and independent as her mother was when she was her age.
  4. I have two Tom Ford lipsticks - Crimson Noir and Rocco from the more "affordable" Lips and Boys collection. I have worn the Crimson Noir one and like the formula. Probably start wearing Rocco in a few weeks as it is a bit more spring-y. My Holts is very small and it just started to carry some of the lipsticks and fragrances. Haven't tried the eyeshadows. Only tested a couple of them last spring when I visited Toronto. For $88 I hope that they are flawless. They are available (currently sold out) on the Holts website. A bit too expensive for me, like the Louboutin line. Ordering stuff online is a challenge. I like to actually see the product. I think I bought most of the collection he did for Estée Lauder a few years ago. EL does own the brand and some of the Pure Envy lipsticks are comparable. I too am a sucker for the packaging. (:
  5. I can't get in to the show. Wanted to bail after the 3rd ep. Maybe I am missing something. I like most sci-fi, but just no interest.
  6. Abigail has probably already paid for the wedding dress! It can't just stay in a box til the next dude comes along a few months from now. It'll be out of style by then. She's in love with the fairytale and fantasy. Until the next DiMera comes along. Now that the DiMera numbers are dwindling, she may need to find a new source/family. No idea if she still has her job or if she's on maternity leave or what. Life without a constant man in your life isn't that bad. You get your own bed, access to the TV remote. Maybe she needs to figure out why she needs a man in her life at all times. Perhaps it's lonely talking to oneself and validating oneself. Raise the baby alone for a while. I dunno, I've been watching this for too many years.
  7. I've been enjoying the YSL Black Opium scent lately.
  8. I tested the blue and green Chanel eyeshadows and for me, they seemed patchy. Maybe the tester had been tested a lot in a few days and it had dried out a bit? I'm sure there are better products than those for $41 CAD each! Dior has been hit and miss. I ran in to the Western Canadian Dior rep last year and mentioned that the quality of the eyeshadow quints has been less than stellar, for the price point. Dry, patchy, lots of fallout and application issues. I expect a lot more than mediocre for my investment ($70 is lot when some drugstore products at one-tenth the price perform better). Yes, I am a sucker for packaging, but... I adore my almost-empty Bonne Etoile quint from about 2 years ago. Since then, mainly meh. Dior isn't hugely cutting-edge, but has a je nais se quoi about it. Did see on Temptalia that the Tom Ford spring/summer eyeshadow quads have arrived, or will be. Our Holt Renfrew is apparently sold out. Um, I want to know how an $88 quad performs first. If it lasts several hours, has no fallout, or flaking, maybe. I'm more interested in the cream shadows. At least the $39 Lips and Boys lipstick collection is relatively affordable. My Holts stocks only some lipsticks and the fragrance collection. Anything else is online and without even glancing at a tester. Still have some of my holiday palettes to start. Should tide me over for a while, but I do like new and interesting stuff. Haven't visited the drugstore brands yet. The new lines are just trickling in. Also Sephora. Or MAC. Too many collections, too many that sell out in no-time.
  9. Week 3- Brittany Before look - short, clubwear-inspired. Fanny packs. Pineapple prints. Transitioning from working at a school (?) to a beauty salon. Not with that wardrobe. Fashionably edgy is one thing, when there is a bit of a line. Maybe a cool pair of shoes or some jewelry. Killer heels are painful on concrete floors. Scaring off your clients is not cool. Canadians don't have access to some US stores unless online (current low dollar makes US shopping prohibitively expensive). I do wonder where the makeover ladies buy some of their attire. Last week's white gloves were replaced by the fanny pack. Best line of the night was Stacy's remarking that *she* was 'Cruella DeVille' and ate puppies. Nice to see her wit. Makeover gave Brittany a more adult, approachable, and glamourous appearance. I would like to see the photo that the random 'jury' receives. I found it a bit off-putting that one of those who commented felt that the woman in the photo looked more trustworthy as the person deemed her to be stylish and took care how she dressed/presented herself. Anyone can frame/create an 'image' of someone by putting on particular clothing. Of course I would look more favorably at someone who has combed his/her hair, and is wearing something nice. The reality is that outfits can be changed, and talk is cheap.
  10. Glad the show is back. No favorites yet. No standouts. Wait and see for another couple of eps. One Canadian facetestant. I liked the two top looks.
  11. I wouldn't mind one season per year and a sprinkling of specials - a judge's challenge, a few former contestants having a special competition spread out over a couple of evenings. I don't know how big the industry is, but it doesn't seem huge and I don't know if there is demand for a lot of makeup artists. Maybe there'll be some good contestants and budding makeup artists this season.
  12. I tend to have more interest in fall collections. Many spring ones are simply too pastel for me. The bronze-y summer ones tend to fare better. Dior's looks nice in the package but none of the colours will work for me (pale orange, yellows). I have lots of red lipsticks so the UD Gwen Stefani collection may result in dupes/lack of interest. I did buy the Chanel LA Sunrise ribbons blush - cheaper in Canada at $57 compared to $70 US. Not much else of the collection appeals to me. I swatched the eyeshadows - nice colours but they were patchy. Clinique's lid pops look nice but also seem mediocre. Anything already appealing to anyone?
  13. I haven't owned a scrunchy in years! LOL.
  14. Tracy was okay. Vintage clothing is tough to pull off if it's not worn properly - i.e. a piece here and there that is well-fitted. Some of the dresses would have worked better if they had been hemmed. I didn't get the white gloves - especially her having 100 or so pairs. The style seemed a bit affected and costume-y. Maybe I just don't go for the 'granny chic' look. I was sympathetic to her losing her mother at a young age. The after look didn't hugely wow me. Tattoos and extensive body art are not my thing. The hair was good and gave off a Joan from 'Mad Men' look.
  15. I was flipping stations and saw McKenzie on Canada's shopping channel talking about a cosmetic line she is involved with/created - Westmore Beauty. I gathered it was some pro Foundation. Don't know much else about it right now. Has it been on one of the US shopping channels?
  16. I'm not a huge braid person. I just wash every day, usually, but sometimes I'll skip a day on weekends.
  17. Surprisingly enough, it's back for another season. The public opinion poll is still useless. People do love to judge. Anyone can wear one outfit for ten minutes and be judged in the court of social media, and then change and get another opinion. I would like to care about the makeovers, but a minute's soundbite about them does not usually invest me in their story. I did learn about the jeans around the neck trick to see if they will fit. I also enjoyed seeing Joe Fresh as an actual store and not a section of one of my supermarkets.
  18. I usually vary between L'Oreal Shimmering (pink container) shampoo and conditioner, Aveda Shampure shampoo and conditioner, and Kevin Murphy Blonde Angel. My hair is long and fine and most mornings I wake up looking like a scarecrow so I usually wash my hair daily. I'm hoping that my new Mason Pearson brush will help out with no having to wash the hair as often.
  19. I enjoyed it, found it funny, and bittersweet. I enjoyed seeing two adults interact. Not the parent-child of the Doctor and Clara. River Song does have the ability to erase people's memories, so she can certainly erase the Doctor's. And have another 24 years.
  20. I've only seen the first two installments (so far). If something seems too good to be true, it probably is! Being offered something for nothing - what's the catch? Surely the G8 and the UN would have wanted extensive chat sessions with the 'Overlords'. Many people wouldn't be thrilled to have an Earth 'supervisor'. Where is the media digging in to the story? Where are the rebels/Resistance? Things don't come *that* easy. It's not the Middle Ages any more - with serious information control. I agree with the poster who spoke about the arrival of the aliens challenging worldwide religious beliefs. We are not alone in the Universe. It's a big place. Have the Overlords visited anyone else? Is their homeworld dead and are they in search of a food or water source? Kerellan revealing himself to be the very much the image of the 'stereotypical' Christian devil is too easy. That iconic Christian image would mean little to those from the other world religions. No need for faith or questioning when you get what you want. Also seemed a throwback to the Dark Ages. The loss of scientific enquiry. The time before Abelard and 'Sic et Non'. People just seem too easily taken in, too gullible, and not asking questions.
  21. I have Naked on the Run (ideal for travelling). It's a good idea but could use some better and less heavy packaging. Eyeshadows, blush, bronzer, highlighter, lipgloss, eye pencil, and mascara. The newer Lancôme palettes (My French Noel, Auda(city)) have the lipstick part covered up. A good idea to prevent eyeshadows from getting in to them. The Dior holiday ones, although pretty, don't have anything to cover the lipsticks. At $90 here for the big palette, a more practical package would be great. I got the YSL Tuxedo palette in the fall (the Bay here had a $10 discount). Having hazel eyes, I struggle with a lot of neutral palettes and tend to favour blues, greens, and the occasional purple (minus those with a particular red dye that I am allergic to). I liked the 'Give Every Shade' Estee Lauder palette that came out in October. Three snap-in interchangeable eyeshadow palettes. A really good idea. Less waste.
  22. I'm a new Sephora VIB member. I ordered the new Bite Beauty #12 Lip Lab lipstick in Sugar Plum. And an Urban Decay Naked Basics palette. A more handy size to put in the bag and take to work.
  23. Maybe they need to have a chat with 'Sleepy Hollow's' Ichabod Crane. And a bit of Jefferson. I enjoyed Rosalee clonking Xavier. I kinda smelled that one coming - that he'd be a sellout and part of the set-up. The whole lineup stuff seemed a bit too easy. You could smell the buns burning. The Renard Mayor candidate endorsement commercial raised an eyebrow. It's telegraphing that the candidate probably has something to do with the War/Uprising. I want to care about the Uprising and the War, but I need a bit more exposition. My itch needs more than a little scratching. I had hoped that Juliette would have stayed 'dead' for a while longer. The wig just made her look like an X Men reject or the 90s called and wants the Pretty Woman wig back.
  24. Why the corn fields? Reminded me of the X Files and I wondered where the bees were.
