The place to discuss your faves - the ones that don't let you down (cleansers, toners, makeup removers, foundations, brushes, etc.). Things for me include: Lancôme Bi-Facil eye makeup remover Clinique All About Eyes - for eye puffiness Chanel Rouge Coco - Boy

The Lancôme holiday beauty box is really tempting. I think it's the train case that comes with it. As if I need more makeup and yet another bag. Many of my bags go to Goodwill or the local women's shelter. I tend to collect lipsticks, nail polishes, eyeshadows. I'll have four or five fragrances on rotation - some are also more winter-oriented and those are reserved for November to about March. I also like fragrance samples. I do like the OPI mini polishes - just enough to keep me interested without having a ton of polish to use up. I have a few red lippies - my favourites being Chanel's Pirate, and Tom Ford's Crimson Noir. I also like some vampire shades. We're only starting to get Tom Ford here - up until later this month, his line was only available at Holt Renfrew Toronto and maybe Vancouver and Montreal. I think Calgary's Nordstrom also carries it. Can't justify the $115 Louboutin lipstick. I can buy three or four good cheaper ones for that price. Maybe if it came with a refill for about $50. I go through hit and miss periods with MAC. Too many collections.

I was a bit meh on this week's episode. This week's "Paranormal Witness" had a bee invasion, along with a creature with glowing eyes. I too think that Betsy Ross and Pandora have some connection. We got almost nothing from Betsy previously, so why now. At least we have a bit more insight in to Pandora, but by now, we the audience, should have some idea what is going on. Because she can? She travels through time and was Betsy 200 years ago? I liked Abbie's new hairstyle and am concerned for Jenny. Crane's dating seemed like a disaster until he decided to be 'real'. Chloe still seems like she has some secrets and isn't on the up-and-up with Crane.

Paranormal Witness - General Discussion

It's not a regular hobby. Only if I want to injure myself. Or if the power goes off and that's mainly going around with a flashlight (if the batteries work) or the light of my iPad and the flashlight app. If something seems too good to be true (like cheap rent), it probably is. It would normally be a red flag of lousy neighbours or that the house may need some, um, repair. -

1. The furnace/propane. The propane guy should have checked out how $350 or more of propane was used up in a day or so. Check to see if the tank was filled properly. Propane also is not odourless. In 1997, the house should have had a CO monitor. Crappy of him to charge for another fill. 2. Old furnaces do have issues. Maybe not anything paranormal. 3. House is old, and since it was fall, maybe the bees found a hole in the roof. Or had their hive in a wall of the house. 4. I did like the chat with the neighbour. I did think it was him knocking at the door during the ice storm. 5. The little girl's house drawing rightfully drew the attention of the teacher. I'm surprised that she didn't also talk to the school counsellor about the 'dark' house. 6. The creepy monster with the eyes may have been real or just a nightmare, eyes playing tricks. 7. The furniture moving was interesting and was witnessed by more than one person. 8. The church spirits seemed to be an odd reason for the 'haunting' and not liking the 'family' due to it being a single parent household. The Internet was alive and well in 1997 and surely there was someone within a 100 mile or so radius (psychic or medium) who could have come out to check the house out. 9. The show's ending seemed weird with the credits and then the door closing on the mom - to keep her in the house? -
I put my foundation on first. I take care of a lot of eyeshadow fallout by dipping a Q-tip in to eye makeup remover and swabbing it away.

I am prone to eczema and scaliness in winter - especially on my legs and in the knee area. Occasionally elbows. The dry air and the cold, and lack of humidity. I go through a lot of Hydrocortisone cream - it's cheap at $4 a tube. Also a bit of rosacea. Mainly due to the harsh winter climate.

Lucky for me, the nearest Sephora is a half hour drive. I am about $100 away from VIB status. I have a lot of gift with purchase lipsticks to use up. I have been seriously cutting down on the 'gifts' and it's one gift per season per brand now. I would say that most of my GWP stuff ends up in a bag for the local women's shelter each holiday time, along with other bath and pampering goodies. Two recent purchases were a Bite Beauty maple lippie (candied maple - the braised maple shade sold out within minutes), and one of the Estee Lauder new matte sculpting ones (a pretty pinky-plum shade - Unattainable). I really liked the YSL fall collection and ended up with the Pretty Metal eyeshadow palette, the violet sequins lip gloss, and the kajal eyeliner. Also got a Lancôme eyeshadow pen. I'm interested in some of the Kat Von D collection - a couple of eyeshadows and lipsticks and an Hourglass highlighter. I'm also checking out some of the ColourPop line. The Urban Decay Nakeds vault is probably a very good value in the US. Not so much in Canada. Some of the Sephora line is very good, especially blushes. Luckyroll3, am glad you are enjoying your lipsticks. MargeGunderson, I don't recall seeing much FAB here. Granted, each of our current three Sephora stores stock different brands. For the holidays, I like to treat myself to one Chanel or Dior product, be it a lipstick or nail polish, or whatever. Dior has been hit and miss with its eyeshadow formula the past year or so and I have been disappointed with the quality and performance. I wouldn't mind a Dior Addict lipstick, but I need to find one I'd spend $42 on.

Petunia13, I've lucked out at Costco recently and found both the Balenciaga and Narciso perfumes at half price or less. I work downtown and am near the shops, so I sample at lunchtime. The new Givenchy one is all right on me, as is the new Miu Miu and Marc Jacobs Decadence. I have liked most Prada. I wasn't too keen on Alaia, but maybe I'll give it another spritz or two. I also do some tests at Sephora. And hunt around Winners/TJ Maxx/Marshalls for deals on gift sets. The more expensive Tom Ford perfumes are mostly available through special order here, although one of our shops will be getting a small amount of his makeup line and we do see some of the scents around holiday time. Fragrance is a tough market as many new scents are discontinued within a year or so. Many workplaces also have scent policies. I don't wear a lot of scent, but.... Many scents don't work for me either. They do smell good on other people. People have tried some of my fragrances and on them, they amount to bug spray. Like most Chanel perfumes. I like the makeup but the fragrances do nothing for me except stink!

One particular body scent bothers me. Many women wear it and I don't know what it is. I have been the victim of a fake 'perfume' allergy at my workplace. Current scents are Balenciaga, Tom Ford Violet Blonde (sadly, discontinued), Tom Ford Velvet Orchid, B Balenciaga, Tom Ford Noir (Femme), Narciso Rodriguez (a scent I have worn for years), Narciso Musc for Her (special occasion). Assorted samples. I do like the Prada Iris and Candy scents too. Along with Valentina from Valentino.

Does anyone have any interest in these? Some are good value, some are great samples, some are collector's items. Last holiday season, I bought the Chanel Camelia highlighter, which sits unused. Too pretty. Maybe this year. Since some of my brushes are near the end of their lifespan, I picked up the Lancôme holiday set (also got the gift with purchase with it). Good value. I also picked up the Estee Lauder Give Every Colour palette. Similar to the Urban Decay set (I have the Nakeds), but with the snap-in case, making it ideal for work and travel. I still have the original 2013 palette, but find it heavy and cumbersome. Sephora's Hourglass highlighter holiday set seems overpriced and tiny. Waiting to see what the Chanel and Dior collections are like (I have a gift card that I can use to buy Dior or perhaps Guerlain at one of the local shops). Any treats? Any bad buys?

One of our stations has the original 'Don't Be Afraid of the Dark' this weekend. I haven't seen it since I was a little kid and it did scare me then. 'The Conjuring' will show up at some point. -
I enjoyed Bud and the breakfast/food. The jam instead of the syrup. Didn't care for Chavez being so cryptic. The phone will play an important part, but the fingerprint part of answering it needs to be fixed. The four fangs/scratches? Wait and see. I'd have preferred something a bit less cryptic. War is coming. So is winter. I hope we do see some more Ripper fallout. It was covered up too easily. Although with the new fangs in town, Renard will be busy. No body means Juliette isn't dead yet. I was hoping that the baby wouldn't make it, but there must be some importance. Adalind as mommy will get boring and tedious.

Nope, just our movie channels and US time shift stations. Our Space station has the Paranromal Activity movies for Hallows Eve. Might be available on demand at the movie channel site/app. -

Canada doesn't get the SyFy channel. Whatever programming we get from it ends up on our Space channel or sometimes Showcase (like Haven and Defiance). -
I don't watch 'Bones'. Wasn't sure I really needed to watch it to then watch 'Sleepy'. 'Bones' kinda reminded me of 'Warehouse 13'. Thought the ep was poorly written. I likened it to the 'X Files' but without the sense of wonder. Anyhoo, 'Sleepy' was more interesting. I too thought that Zoe was dressed as Little Bo-Peep for the Halloween bowling night. Don't know if the original Betsy Ross is another time-type traveller/time-imprisoned person like Ichabod. If she has something to do with Pandora, perhaps there'll be a flashback sometimes to see Betsy as Pandora or Zoe who can morph in to Betsy. I'm still wondering what the tree's purpose is - each evil seems to bring up another bloom or growth. Maybe instead of being reactive, Ich and Abbs and the Scooby gang can do some pre-emptive research in to who Pandora is. I did enjoy her taking candy from the kid, though. The soldiers reminded me a bit of the pirates in 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. Ichabod is running out of legitimate historical figures to pop up in the show and its mythology. Keeping the show from turning in to a bad rom-com has sunk many shows. People watch to see the angst, the looks, and wanting to pull the happy couple together. The 'romance' is now floundering with today's hook-ups, friends with benefits, etc. No real struggle, no obstacles anymore unless they are contrived. The 'will they or won't they' keeps a lot of shows running past their shelf life. No idea what to do with the couple once they become a couple except insert more obstacles. That's how it works and no one will mess with the formula without it becoming mind-numbingly tedious. Perhaps it would be different if seasons were limited and the story contained to 4 or 5 13 episode seasons. Did like the soldiers disintegrating. The Colonel/General took the easy way out. Thought he would materialize in front of Pandora with some sort of offering to her.

I didn't see the movie. Maybe it is still around on our movie channel. -
The applicant pool wasn't as strong this season. No real stand-out or someone special like a Dina, or Laura, or Anthony. Nora, with her good work ethic, team skills, management skills was the best and is probably the most hireable for future assignments.

This was an interesting episode. Too bad the events happened almost 40 years ago. The little girl could have easily locked herself in the box. Heavy, old hinges and latch. I got locked in an outhouse when I was young. Wind, door slammed shut, and it got stuck. I was rescued within 10-15 minutes. Almost all the family being affected in some way lent the story credibility. My phone rang on cue just after the bedroom conjuring (and possession?) scene. That was creepy and well-done. The mother aging and declining was interesting. I wonder if the Warrens are still alive and could speak about this case, or have some written records of their investigation. I do wonder why they seemingly showed up out of the blue. Unfortunate that the séance recording mysteriously erased. I was surprised that historical records were readily available and accessible. Maybe the town's tax roll, where records are public? Do wonder why 'Bathsheba' chose the mother and not one of the daughters. Was there really some sort of sacrifice going on or was she just a thoroughly modern 19th century woman? Superstition and folklore can be powerful influences. It was a bit disturbing to see the mother change features during the séance. Why no back-up regular film camera? Don't know why there was a need for a séance, unless that was what was done back in the 1970s. Wonder what happened, if anything, to the next owners. It's been since 1980 and I would think the house is still around. -
Congratulations to Nora! She was professional, managed her time well, let her team members do their job. Courteous to the film crew, anticipated changes. Ben's purple woman did not work. No beauty there except for the top of the face. I thought Evan maybe had a chance with his re-do. All contestants were gracious at the end. No egos, no sour grapes. All won in some way. Their lives changed for the better, they all learned things about themselves and their talents. Conducted themselves with a rare class not found on many reality shows. I also enjoyed seeing Glenn in regular work-type clothing and casual in his plaid shirt. Was hoping that a new season would maybe start in March.

I'm in Western Canada. Our SW store is in West Edmonton Mall. It's just been there for about 1.5 years. I think that Calgary (a slightly larger corporate market) gets the trunk shows. The Nordstrom store there has lots of events. I'm between petite and average height. The petite inseam works well, but most petite clothing doesn't fit me. I need to get stuff shortened/hemmed. Alterations can be expensive, especially if you have to take in shoulders and more or less re-do a jacket. I have expensive feet and I am forced to pay more for shoes. I'll also shop mid to low prices on clothing and love places like Winners/Marshalls/TJ Maxx. Occasionally I will get some higher end investment type pieces. Cost per wear amortizing makes them affordable over the long term. I think Stacy London (from What Not to Wear) wisely said that clothes are about 'fit' and if you don't like the number on the size tag, take a sharpie and put whatever size you like on the tag. I usually cut many tags off clothing, especially if they are on sweaters/tops as the tag can sometimes itch.

Wow! Those are tiny feet. Mine are a 6-6.5 depending on who makes them and how they fit my instep. I'll look at some of the US store sites and marvel at the choice and selection there is down there. Our small Holt Renfrew had a SW custom 50-50 boot trunk show of sorts last year. We now have a SW shop and I think it gets a trunk show once a year. My size also sells out quickly as only 1-2 pairs are ordered in it. So, I too have to pay full price most of the time, or take my chances and see what makes it to the sales. Sometimes I get lucky. I get a lot of crappy and catty comments from coworkers that I spend too much money on shoes. Unfortunately, I only have one pair of feet and most inexpensive shoes do not fit them or are incredibly painful. I don't have a choice. Not like I criticize what they spend their money on. To each his or her own.

Don't know if the Demon Files show will be available in Canada. I would be interested in seeing a story from folks who are not religious/Christian. Less of a Spiritualist bent. Someone perhaps Buddhist, with different views of hauntings and possible demons. -
The monster was creepy in the 'there is something in the closet' that all kids can relate to. Or something under the bed. I do wonder why the monsters choose the closet. Even on the paranormal shows, the ghost/demon likes it there too. I was surprised that the monsterbusters had such easy access to the children. No talks with the parents to get permission, no working with child protective services/social workers, no flashing the FBI badge. Unless he is employed as some sort of consultant, Crane really has no business in any sort of investigation of that sort. Perhaps Abbie seemed interested in Crane's phone because she's paying for it. Maybe it's a pay as you go type and Crane gets the minimum minutes and data. Zoe does seem a bit too helpful and perhaps it's time for some boundaries. But Crane probably likes the attention as it is right now. Pandora is quite interesting. Still no motives. Had a tough time making out her dialogue in the hospital scene. The editing was a bit jarring and unfocused. Betsy Ross can go. What happened to the greatest love - Katrina? Death becomes her. Not. Betsy's modern speech is puzzling. Perhaps she is a time traveller. Can't imagine that the writers would be sloppy. Did like Jenny and Abbie as a team. Perhaps Crane was a nervous dental patient who was given some laughing gas as part of his introduction to modern dentistry. With the new ultrasonic cleaning technique, his dental bib/towel should have been a little damp. Or removed as his procedure was over.

If the fireplace was 'closed', there should be some nice covering for it. The realtor or apartment manager can say that there were structural issues with it. Or just simply left it open and told the tenants to not use it as it wasn't safe. Being given some shady answer or no answer would be a bit of a red flag. I think the necklace had a pentagram on it. I wondered why they didn't return it to the landlord and ask him/her to contact the previous tenant about the object left behind and if the previous tenant wanted it returned to him/her. Again, it was the usual story of investing *everything* in to the property. The boyfriend being away on a long job. I suppose I could be a 'witch' at certain times of the year (i.e. not Halloween and me giving out nice candy). I don't appreciate kids I don't know playing in my yard without my knowledge or permission. No meeting the parents, no nothing. You get tired of stuff being broken or damaged. You get tired of being mouthed off at or getting the middle finger from the neighbourhood five year old. The days of the kindly lady or neighbour are long-gone in a lawsuit-happy world. I did find it odd that the the woman moved in to the 'witch's' home. Maybe she and her friends made fun of the older lady living in the apartment when they were younger. Older, not a grandma type. Why move back there.
